Ok… Lets read it together
Mark 6:30–44 (ESV)
The apostles returned to Jesus Remember previously, they had been sent out to do as Jesus did, teach, heal, deliver… and told him all that they had done and taught. And he said to them, “Come away by yourselves to a desolate place and rest a while.” For many were coming and going, and they had no leisure even to eat.
And they went away in the boat to a desolate place by themselves. Now many saw them going and recognized them, and they ran there on foot from all the towns and got there ahead of them.
When he(Jesus) went ashore he saw a great crowd, and he had compassion on them, because they were like sheep without a shepherd. And he began to teach them many things.
And when it grew late, his disciples came to him and said, “This is a desolate place, and the hour is now late.(and we’re tired & Hungry) Send them away to go into the surrounding countryside and villages and buy themselves something to eat.”
But he answered them, “You give them something to eat.” And they(The Disciples) said to him, “Shall we go and buy two hundred denarii (about 6months wages) worth of bread and give it to them to eat?”
Thats A LOT OF MONEY… WE DON’T HAVE THAT
And he said to them, “How many loaves do you have? Go and see.” And when they had found out, they said, “Five loaves, and two fish.” Then he commanded them all to sit down in groups on the green grass. So they sat down in groups, by hundreds and by fifties.
And taking the five loaves and the two fish, he looked up to heaven and said a blessing and broke the loaves and gave them to the disciples to set before the people. And he divided the two fish among them all. And they all ate and were satisfied. And they took up twelve baskets full of broken pieces and of the fish. And those who ate the loaves were five thousand men. (Notice it says men… this did not include their wives and children - historians said it was potentially 10-20 thousand people)

Giving Jesus Your Yes
Introduction
STORY: WALING IN CIRCLES
A study in a science journal found that people tend to walk in circles when they don’t have any direction. When some volunteers were blindfolded, they almost never moved more than 100 yards away from where they started, no matter how long they were allowed to walk.
The same thing is true of lost people who have no purpose in life. People without Christ are spiritually blind and walk in circles… repeating the same behaviors, thoughts, and are lost - stuck in sin…. they need someone to remove the blindfold. Jesus came to remove the blindfold…. and he invites his followers to help do the same.
Every week we have new people walk through these doors… Jesus is looking for the people of The Grace Place… to partner with him… and remove the blind folds.
No matter how tired Jesus was from a full day of ministry… when he saw this lost group of wandering sheep without a Shepherd.. Jesus could not help himself… he had to teach them about Good news.
Friends I believe removing blindfolds should be our NUMBER ONE STRENGTH… why? Because Jesus was about…. PEOPLE.
We should be better with people than we are WORSHIP, STAGE PREACHING, FACILITIES ETC….
Who cares if we are GOOD at all of these things and we are HORRIBLE at CARING FOR people.
That means that the plan of Jesus is that WE ALL SERVE WITH HIM… one sits… when it comes to caring for people.
Today is our goal to activate our church… to serve with Jesus… as we prepare for the fall season thats upon us. It amazes me that the text we are in leads right to that today.
The bottom line of our text today is this…
For Jesus to transform their hearts…. the disciples had to give him their YES… to do the practical things while he did the spiritual things.
The title of our message today is…
_____ Giving Jesus Your Yes _____
Did you know that you are Plan A for Jesus… he wants to work with you to impact this community around us that is filled with your friends and family, neighbors, co-workers, and classmates.
Well… How does a miracle of this magnitude take place outside this small community? As we look at this story I see three types of people that gave a YES… How does a miracle like this happen amoung us IN YOUR NOTES

It takes someone to READ. Mk 6:34, Eph 1:18

In sports… the greatest players and coaches are those that can read the field. They can asses the need, pivot resources or people to address the biggest needs..
Great coaches are on the sidelines… watching every move… . reading the field calling the plays…
Most people don’t see clearly on their own, they need someone who knows how to read the field…
In our story Jesus and the disciples saw the same thing, but did not read the same thing.
What did Jesus see that the tired disciples missed?
v. 34 tells us that he saw… Sheep without a Shepherd.
For us to GIVE JESUS our YES… we must be able to read the field.
Story: We have incredible people who can read the field…
I’m reminded of a time when Shirley Boyer came to me just before Valentines this last year and asked if we could send flowers and a card to all our widows. Shirley read the field… she saw people who needed some special care and attention on this special day.
One of the widows who received her flowers said, I have not received flowers on Valentines day since my husband passed away and that was years ago… it was so special.
Here is what I have learned through the years…

Statement: SEEING doesn’t happen NATURALLY until Jesus gives us they eyes to do so.

This is why Paul prayed this over the believers in Eph. 1:18… by saying…
Ephesians 1:18 (NIV)
I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in his holy people,
God wants to open our eyes… so we can read the field… and minister to the needs of people.
Here’s the question I believe Jesus is asking…
Question: Who might need hope that is right in front of you?
****If we READ the field… we would NOTICE that there are needs all around us…
***Did you know… we have grown in the last 16 months by nearly 100 people…
You don’t have to go far to give Jesus your YES…
We want people on our A-Team that can read the field… someone to say lets serve those people well… so they stay long enough to see JESUS work MIRACLES among them.
We’re talking about…
_____ Giving Jesus Your Yes _____
Back to our passage:
Mark 6:35-38 ESV
Notice the bold text… Jesus didn’t just read the field and keep it to himself… he stepped up and lead.. he said…
And when it grew late, his disciples came to him and said, “This is a desolate place, and the hour is now late. 36 Send them away to go into the surrounding countryside and villages and buy themselves something to eat.” 37 But he answered them, “You give them something to eat.” And they said to him, “Shall we go and buy two hundred denarii worth of bread and give it to them to eat?” 38 And he said to them, “How many loaves do you have? Go and see.”
How does a miracle like this happen amoung us today… IN YOUR NOTES

It takes someone to LEAD. Mk. 6:37, 1 Cor. 4:2

Friends.. Reading the filed is not all that it takes… plenty of people know how to read the field… but it takes someone lead what they see.
Leading is NOT easy… everyone will have their own opinions on how things should be done.
The disciples solution was to send people away….
Jesus say… if you claim you follow me this means… YOU FEED THEM… with me.
Friends if we want to see God work miracle's… we cant just pray and walk away… we must pray and participate…. pray and serve
What does it take to lead… ?
In your notes.. A leader… …

Leads by EXAMPLE

Yea, he or she is a role model… they give a visual example of how to do the job. They have usually proven themselves in their role on the team before they ever lead. Jesus modeled this with his life…
Paul was training a young leader named Timothy and told him this…
1 Timothy 4:12 (NIV)
Don’t let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith and in purity.
How do you know your ready to lead?
If you want to lead… first start by leading with your character… you do NOT need a title to do this.
What does it take to lead… ? In your notes.. A leader…

Leads with INSTRUCTION

A leader must be able to instruct on how to do a job.
We see this in our text… Jesus COMMANDS everyone to sit down… in groups..
Sometimes what stunts our growth is our inability to instruct and communicate… effectively.
Instead of doing the job ourselves, we must recognize that what God calls us to do is bigger than us, requiring us to involve and lead others.
STORY: I think of Roger Runyan when I think of this- In order for Roger to accomplish what God has invited him to do in this house takes a team… its much bigger than him. He has learned to lead, build a team and instruct others. Proud of you Roger…
What does it take to lead… ? In your notes.. A leader…

Lead with CONSISTENCY

In 1 Cor. 4:2… Paul says this…
1 Corinthians 4:2 (NLT)
Now, a person who is put in charge as a manager must be faithful.
A leader must be they are faithful, someone that can be counted on.
This is not something you bet on when you ask them to lead… this is already something that has been proven as they serve in a non leadership role.
***By the way… these things are helpful in every day life…
If you think.. I will do more when I get paid more at my job.. I will be counted on more when I am a lead, director, manager… friends… according to scripture… you wont see that promotion… these are things that should be proven right where you are. faithful in the role God has already given to you.
What does it take to lead… ? In your notes.. A leader…

Leads with ENCOURAGEMENT

I love how Jesus encouraged them when they said… it would take thousands of dollars to feed these people and we don’t have it! He simply replays without a rebuke… but with an encouragement… he says…
We see this in v. 38…
38 And he said to them, “How many loaves do you have? Go and see.”
Dont be discouraged with what you don’t have… just look at what you do have.
Feel free to write this down…
Jesus never asks for what we CAN’T give… but what we CAN give.
You might look at what you have and think… there is no way it’s enough… you would be right!
It’s NOT enough… someone say UNTILL… Until Jesus blesses it… then… it becomes MORE THAN ENOUGH.
STORY: New Mens Group
I was at a mens gathering a few weeks ago… Pastor Jacob and John are always challenging our men to step up and lead the change… I saw someone who needed a little encouragement to do that… so I asked
Because Issac Baldonado said yes… we now we have a mens C-group… a place for men to be encourage, receive accountability, and prayer all because Isaac Baldonado said yes…
If your a leader in the house… sometimes all people need is an encouragement to give the little they have… they want to know they are needed… you A-Teams, Classes will be filled with with all the people you need if we step out and give a little encouragement… and invite someone on the team.
Here is the question I believe Scripture is asking you to consider?
Question: Is God asking you to step out and lead? If yes, where do you think that is?
A lot of people see our church and our awesome A-Team at work and think… they don’t need me… that can’t be further than the truth… we must prepare for the growth…
Back to the story…
Mark… ch Chapter 6.. Jesus gives some commands…
He tells them what to do and where to do it…
39 Then he commanded them all to sit down in groups on the green grass.
He instructs the disciples to organize the people.
Scripture actually tells us
1st He blesses the Fish…
then what did he do… ? He
41b gave them to the disciples to set before the people. And he divided the two fish among them all.
So… according to scripture… it’s still just two fish divided into 12 baskets…
And these guys are asked to feed everyone with what is in their baskets!
To give Jesus your yes… IN YOUR NOTES

It takes someone to FOLLOW. Mark 6:31 1 Cor. 4:2

The people we’re fead because someone was willing to GIVE JESUS THEIR YES and follow when it may have looked a little recidivous.
Here is what we can learn from scripture about following… 1st…

Following takes HUMILITY

Can you imagine how the disciples felt as they helped organize 10,000 plus people and over in the kitchen there are only a few loaves of bread and a couple fish?
Jesus say’s… in Matt. 16:24 whoever wants to follow me must deny themselves… and follow me
Someone who is humble enough to set aside their ideas, opinions and follow Jesus - Im sure the disciples had theirs.
Here is what Humility sounds like… Jesus what ever you ask of me… my answer is YES before you even ask.
The 2nd thing we can learn in scripture about following… is…

Following takes FAITH

It doesn’t jus take humility to walk these nearly empty baskets of food to the crowds… it takes faith.
We saw that Jesus pray a blessing over the food… but NOTHING HAPPENED… UNTILL
The disciples reached into the basket with THIER hand passed to the groups of people.
Can you the buzz that went around the crowd… as each group saw the baskets never run out of food..
THIS IGNIGHTED EXCITEMENT AND FAITH IN THE CROWDS…
SOMEONE HAD TO SAY YES.
Will someone give Jesus their YES TODAY
People are walking through the doors… the crowds are here every week… ready for the good news…
It take leaders to lead and people to follow… to serve… to pass out bread….
***Did you know that it takes a person 6-12 weeks before they trust a church enough to sit down in the grass… and receive whats being served
That means… we greet, serve, teach, care, ush, park people in the cold, the heat, serve coffee… we give JESUS our YES… and one day we reach out to shake a hand… and someone gives their life to Jesus… someone trust the family to make TGP their home… Someone TRUST to give… someone Trust to join the team and serve.
ON THE SCREEN YOU WILL NOTICE DIFFERENT VOLUNTEER OPORTUNITIES
Today as your Pastor’s we see there is a need… to build our A-TEAMS to care well… for Gods most treasured position… PEOPLE.
We invite you to join us in that….
-We are invited someone of you who have been serving on a team to step up and lead or co-lead a team.
-We are inviting many of you to simply serve by joining an A team.
Most people serve about 2 times a month… we never let anyone serve weekly… we ask everyone to take off at least once very month.
We even ask this of our directors and leaders to take a week off from serving at least every 4-6 weeks.
Here is the question I believe scripture is inviting you to ask today…
Question: What do you have to give?
He has given you a basket to walk amoung the people… its filled with a talent… he wants to bless it and distribute it.
I WANT TO PRACTICALLY SHOW YOU SOME PLACES WE ARE READY FOR YOU TO STEP INTO:
SCREEN SLIDE -Serving Options
Read off the things on the screen…
We want to invite you to choose one…
When Pastor Bruce is done giving us a few instructions… We are going to ask you to Simply head to a table in the back at the end of the service and our team will be ready to answer questions and Fast Track you onto a team
***Next time add LEADERSHIP roles to this… so people can see the lead need.
Before I ask you to respond to serve today…
If you do NOT know Jesus as your Lord and Savior today is your day…
SHORT - Salvation Altar Call
Maybe you walked in and you are a sheep without a Shepherd…
I believe Jesus is here today… and I believe he wants to save you.
Here is how I would like to end the service for everyone else….
A-TEAM RESPONSE -
WHO IS READY TO…
Give Jesus… Your Yes?
This last question will NOT be for everyone… but… it will be more most… many who are visiting… maybe your checking out Jesus for the first time… or checking out our church… please feel no pressure from us.
If TGP is your home church… and you are
1. Already Serving
2. Ready to step up and lead
3. or ready Step up and serve by Joining an A-Team…
Would you stand on your feet today…
Let me Pray for you…
Lets thank God that as we walk among the crowds with a nearly empty basket… we will thank him for the miricles that are going to begin to take place amoung us

Tongues & Interpretation
1. To STRENGTHEN the Church (1 Cor14:5)
For prophecy is greater than SPEAKING in TONGUES, unless someone interprets what you are saying so that the whole church will be STRENGTHENED.
Believers, God has operated through this gift today to strengthen you today. Let your faith be strengthened and know that God is in control and using supernatural measures to speak to us.
2. Is a SIGN for unbelievers. (1Cor. 14: 21a, 22)
1 Corinthians 14:21–22 (ESV)
In the Law it is written, “By people of strange tongues and by the lips of foreigners will I speak to this people, and even then they will not listen to me, says the Lord.” Thus tongues are a sign not for believers but for unbelievers, while prophecy is a sign not for unbelievers but for believers.
22 -  So you see that speaking in tongues is a SIGN, not for believers, but for UNBELIEVERS.
The Bible explains to us God has chosen to use this gift to be a sign for you. A sign for what? It is a sign of his realness for those of you who have been doubting or questioning the existence of God. He wants you to know he is REAL and he wants to bring you spiritual life and health. If you're in here today and you don't know Jesus as your personal Lord and Savior... he wants you to know he has gone to great lengths to show you his love today. (Great opportunity for a salvation altar call if it fits).
