WHY AN INTERCESSOR?

Welcome to The Supernatural Life’s discipleship group on intercession. My name is Grace, and I will be walking you through a 4 part lesson on the foundation of intercession.
Isaiah 59:16 (NKJV)
He saw that there was no man, And wondered that there was no intercessor; Therefore His own arm brought salvation for Him; And His own righteousness, it sustained Him.
Ezekiel 22:30–31 (NKJV)
So I sought for a man among them who would make a wall, and stand in the gap before Me on behalf of the land, that I should not destroy it; but I found no one.
Therefore I have poured out My indignation on them; I have consumed them with the fire of My wrath; and I have recompensed their deeds on their own heads,” says the Lord God.
God is clearly looking for intercessors. So this lesson is called “Why and intercessor”. We will be exploring questions such as:
WHAT IS AN INTERCESSOR?
HOW DOES INTERCESSION RELATE TO THE MINISTRY OF JESUS?
WHY DOES GOD DESIRE AN INTERCESSOR?
WHY DOES GOD HANG HIS DECISIONS ON THE BACK OF AN INTERCESSOR?
Get ready! Because God has something in store for you. God bless.

WHAT IS AN INTERCESSOR?

My Definition:

An intercessor is a mediator between 2 parties, someone who stands in the gap. The greateset Intercessor is a man named Jesus, our mediator between God and man.

Hebrew Definition:

Intercession > Paga
Isaiah 64:5 (NKJV)
You meet him who rejoices and does righteousness, Who remembers You in Your ways. You are indeed angry, for we have sinned— In these ways we continue; And we need to be saved.
Genesis 28:11 (KJV 1900)
And he lighted upon a certain place, and tarried there all night, because the sun was set; and he took of the stones of that place, and put them for his pillows, and lay down in that place to sleep.
2 Samuel 1:15 (KJV 1900)
And David called one of the young men, and said, Go near, and fall upon him. And he smote him that he died.
Isaiah 53:6 (NKJV)
All we like sheep have gone astray; We have turned, every one, to his own way; And the Lord has laid on Him the iniquity of us all.
To meet: Isaiah 64:5, an intercessor is someone who meets with God for the purpose of reconcilation. A called intercessor is a friend of God, someone who walks in a intimate relationship with the Lord. Referances: Exodus 33:11 (Moses), and Genesis 18:22-33 (Abraham).
To light upon: Genesis 28:11, Jacob moves from the natural to the supernatural realm. An intercessor is someone who creates a meeting place with God. They create and carry an atmosphere that breaks through this natural realm into the spirit. They live and walk in the supernatural, and are often gifted in the prophetic.
To fall upon, strike down, cut down: 2 Samuel 1:15, an intercessor is willing to strike down the enemy by the word of the Lord, and will not stop until the job is finished > Psalm 18:37-42.
To strike the mark: 2 Kings 13:16-19, an intercessor always has a target they are aiming for and they have the ability to hit the mark in their prayers with accuracy. They receive strategy from heaven, especially when engaging in warfare.
To lay upon: Isaiah 53:6, our sin was laid on Jesus, He carried it, and became it, in order to set us free as the greatest intercessor. The Lord will lay, spiritual burdens on the intercessor from the heart of the Father. They take, carry, and become what they are praying for. They move out of the realm of praying from themselves. God Himself by the Holy Spirit intercedes through them.

HOW DOES INTERCESSION RELATE TO THE MINISTRY OF JESUS?

Romans 8:34 NKJV
Who is he who condemns? It is Christ who died, and furthermore is also risen, who is even at the right hand of God, who also makes intercession for us.
Hebrews 7:25 (NKJV)
Therefore He is also able to save to the uttermost those who come to God through Him, since He always lives to make intercession for them.
Isaiah 53:6 (NKJV)
All we like sheep have gone astray; We have turned, every one, to his own way; And the Lord has laid on Him the iniquity of us all.
The ministry of intercession has EVERYTHING to do with Jesus. He is the greatest intercessor.
Jesus bleeding in the garden looking exhusted and spent. Saying Father have mercy on them.
Luke 22:41–44 NKJV
And He was withdrawn from them about a stone’s throw, and He knelt down and prayed, saying, “Father, if it is Your will, take this cup away from Me; nevertheless not My will, but Yours, be done.” Then an angel appeared to Him from heaven, strengthening Him. And being in agony, He prayed more earnestly. Then His sweat became like great drops of blood falling down to the ground.
God was moved by intense love and compassion seeing a people made in His image being destroyed by sin and its consequences. This love and compassion spured Jesus forward to the cross despite the agony in His soul at what awaited Him.
I was then taken to the cross.
Jesus up there, nailed on that cross, for His enemies! While we were still enemies with God His Son died for us. Some of you may die for a loved one or a good man but which one of you will die for your enemy? Jesus up there nailed on that cross, for the people who hated Him. and are from their point murdering Him on the cross. Father forgive them for they know not what they do.
Jesus hung on the cross as an intercessor. His cruxifixion was an act of intercession. And risen He now lives, interceding at the right hand of the Father day and night for you. Jesus is the greatest intercessor who ever lived. His ministry, is a ministry of intercession.

WHY DOES GOD DESIRE AN INTERCESSOR?

Exodus 33:11 (NKJV)
So the Lord spoke to Moses face to face, as a man speaks to his friend. And he would return to the camp, but his servant Joshua the son of Nun, a young man, did not depart from the tabernacle.
Relationship
When we intercede we are led to seek the face of God.
God is a personal God and He wants to partner with us.
1 Corinthians 12:27 ESV
Now you are the body of Christ and individually members of it.
Body, hands, and feet, and mouth for Jesus.
You become a vessel for God to intercede through.
Isiah a mouthpeice
Your the mouth to preach and prophesy with, your the hands to heal, your the feet to travel and spread the gospel, your the body to carry His glory.
Genesis 1:28 (NKJV)
Then God blessed them, and God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it; have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over every living thing that moves on the earth.”
God gave man dominion on earth.
God desires a relationship with man
God desires to dwell in man as a temple
God desires to establish His kingdom through man, and that man by His Spirit should walk in dominion and rule over the earth.
This was God’s original purpose for man before the fall. It is His perfect plan.

WHY DOES GOD HANG HIS DECISIONS ON THE BACK OF AN INTERCESSOR?

Ezekiel 22:30–31 NKJV
So I sought for a man among them who would make a wall, and stand in the gap before Me on behalf of the land, that I should not destroy it; but I found no one. Therefore I have poured out My indignation on them; I have consumed them with the fire of My wrath; and I have recompensed their deeds on their own heads,” says the Lord God.
Jesus was seeking for an intercessor but found none, and because of this a city was destroyed. This verse implies that if an intercessor had been found, the city would have not been destroyed.
A single intercessor can dramatically change the outcome of a situation.
We read of Daniel. Repenting for his own sin and also on behalf of the nation. Daniel stood as an intercessor, someone standing in the gap, calling on the mercy of God.
Intercession is a ministry of mercy.
God is a just judge and because of this God destroyed the city for its wickedness. Justice was served.
But in heaven we see Jesus acting as an advocate, and the devil the accuser.
Daniel was acting as an advocate.
God desires to operate through man.
You are the hands and the feet. You are the body for God to operate through.
The answer is tied up in the last lesson.
God is moved by you!
God is moved when you stand up in your God given identity and pray to move mountains.
Jesus said WHEN YOU SAY to the Mountain (not HIM). It will be done.
When Jesus laid down His life it gave birth to the church.
Jesus laid on the cross as an intercessor.
Intercession, is the labour pains, that give birth to something.
Intercession is the contractions in the spirit, bringing fourth new life.
When we worship we feel filled, as God is pouring into us.
But when we intercede we are a cup being poured out. We are pouring ourselves out that someone else may be filled.
True intercession feels like labour pains in the spirit. Scripture speaks about this realm of groaning in the spirit. But the Spirit intercedes through us with groanings too deep for words.
It goes beyond you saying a prayer. Intercession goes deep! It’s messy, its loud, it’s long, it’s painful, it’s exhausting, because your giving birth to something. Which is why an intercessor will not stop until they see the results birthed through them.
Family this is the foundation of intercession, I look forward to seeing you in future, as we dive even deeper into the ministry of intercession. God bless.
