So we built the wall, and the entire wall was joined together up to half its height, for the people had a mind to work.
Introduction: The Purpose
Introduction: The Purpose
In order to have a mind to work for God you must have your mind changed by God.
And when one have a mind to work for God they do the work for God.
We all of our work for the Glory of God
Then I said to them, “You see the distress that we are in, how Jerusalem lies waste, and its gates are burned with fire. Come and let us build the wall of Jerusalem, that we may no longer be a reproach.”
Reproach: a disgrace or shameful
Reproach: a disgrace or shameful
For Jerusalem to lie in waste was to bring shame on God.
The Church is the building but make no mistake our buildings matter because it is where we meet and do many things for God.
And when our facilities are not adequate and up to date we can not only not meet the needs of the people but we bring shame to God.
The tabernacle was immaculate
The Temple was immaculate
The Jews considered Jerusalem to be special.
Psalm 48:2 (NKJV)
Beautiful in elevation,
The joy of the whole earth,
Is Mount Zion on the sides of the north,
The city of the great King.
Psalm 87:2 (NKJV)
The Lord loves the gates of Zion
More than all the dwellings of Jacob.
Psalm 48:2 (NKJV)
Beautiful in elevation,
The joy of the whole earth,
Is Mount Zion on the sides of the north,
The city of the great King.
Point 1: Our Purpose
Point 1: Our Purpose
Many of our congregations are reproach to God. A reproach because of the people and our facilities.
We don’t hold people accountable for sin.
We don’t continue to build, renovate, nor expand.
We should do all things for the glory of God.
And whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him.
Our Work
Therefore, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.
Our Preaching
For we do not preach ourselves, but Christ Jesus the Lord, and ourselves your bondservants for Jesus’ sake.
Jesus Glorified The Father
I have glorified You on the earth. I have finished the work which You have given Me to do.
We Also Should Glorify The Father
For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.
We must understand our purpose is to bring God glory.
Once leadership and as leadership we have to communicate and demonstrate God’s purpose to motivate our people to fulfill God’s purpose.
Save souls and maintain the souls saved.

Point 2: The People
Point 2: The People
Everyone has a part to play in building
In Nehemiah you had all kinds of workers doing the work.
The Priests
Nehemiah 3:1 (NKJV)
Then Eliashib the high priest rose up with his brethren the priests and built the Sheep Gate; they consecrated it and hung its doors. They built as far as the Tower of the Hundred, and consecrated it, then as far as the Tower of Hananel.
Tekoites (Outsiders)
Next to them the Tekoites made repairs; but their nobles did not put their shoulders to the work of their Lord.
The People (insiders)
Malchijah the son of Harim and Hashub the son of Pahath-Moab repaired another section, as well as the Tower of the Ovens.

Some Worked Harder Than Others
After him Baruch the son of Zabbai carefully repaired the other section, from the buttress to the door of the house of Eliashib the high priest.
Some Didn’t Work
Next to them the Tekoites made repairs; but their nobles did not put their shoulders to the work of their Lord.

And ask for the old paths, where the good way is,
And walk in it;
Then you will find rest for your souls.
But they said, ‘We will not walk in it.’
People today are always looking for something new
For all the Athenians and the foreigners who were there spent their time in nothing else but either to tell or to hear some new thing.

I will fear no evil;
For You are with me;
Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me.
5. The Dung Gate (cleansing)
5. The Dung Gate (cleansing)
It was the main gate to the Valley of Hinnom
The Valley of Hinnom was the city dump.
Jesus identified this area as a picture of hell.
Mark 9:44 uses the word gehenna which means valley of Hinnom.
the gate where all of the waste went through
imagine how difficult it was to clean this area: the smell, the trash, the dung
where
‘Their worm does not die
And the fire is not quenched.’
Jesus referenced this area as gehenna
Therefore, having these promises, beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God.

water is filling.
Ministry of the Holy Spirit
On the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried out, saying, “If anyone thirsts, let him come to Me and drink. He who believes in Me, as the Scripture has said, out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.” But this He spoke concerning the Spirit, whom those believing in Him would receive; for the Holy Spirit was not yet given, because Jesus was not yet glorified.
7. The Water Gate
7. The Water Gate
washing
The water gate didn’t need repairing
The Word of God needs no repairing
The walls opposite of it needed repairing, but not that gate.
Palal the son of Uzai made repairs opposite the buttress, and on the tower which projects from the king’s upper house that was by the court of the prison. After him Pedaiah the son of Parosh made repairs.
Moreover the Nethinim who dwelt in Ophel made repairs as far as the place in front of the Water Gate toward the east, and on the projecting tower.
After them the Tekoites repaired another section, next to the great projecting tower, and as far as the wall of Ophel.
The Word of God
that He might sanctify and cleanse her with the washing of water by the word,
Nehemiah and Ezra had a great conference brought the Word of God
Now all the people gathered together as one man in the open square that was in front of the Water Gate; and they told Ezra the scribe to bring the Book of the Law of Moses, which the Lord had commanded Israel.
This Gate needed no repairs
Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will by no means pass away.

proverbs 21.31
The horse is prepared for the day of battle,
But deliverance is of the Lord.
“If you have run with the footmen, and they have wearied you,
Then how can you contend with horses?
And if in the land of peace,
In which you trusted, they wearied you,
Then how will you do in the floodplain of the Jordan?
Warefare
Battles in the Christian life
You therefore, my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus. And the things that you have heard from me among many witnesses, commit these to faithful men who will be able to teach others also. You therefore must endure hardship as a good soldier of Jesus Christ. No one engaged in warfare entangles himself with the affairs of this life, that he may please him who enlisted him as a soldier.
9. The East Gate
9. The East Gate
After them Zadok the son of Immer made repairs in front of his own house. After him Shemaiah the son of Shechaniah, the keeper of the East Gate, made repairs.
After him Hananiah the son of Shelemiah, and Hanun, the sixth son of Zalaph, repaired another section. After him Meshullam the son of Berechiah made repairs in front of his dwelling.
Jesus will return from the way of the east.
For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. And there will be famines, pestilences, and earthquakes in various places.
10. The Inspection Gate
10. The Inspection Gate
After him Malchijah, one of the goldsmiths, made repairs as far as the house of the Nethinim and of the merchants, in front of the Miphkad Gate, and as far as the upper room at the corner.
