Big Idea: Good shepherding is all about grace - what He does not what we do.

Jesus gives access to eternal life. Do we come through the door?

No other options
But look at the door - abundant life
It’s not the organization . It’s not a priest or your parents.

Jesus provides eternal life. Do we believe His word?

Salvation is of grace - what God does…not what we do. Grace is not a transaction.
Romans 8:28–30 ESV
28 And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose. 29 For those whom he foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, in order that he might be the firstborn among many brothers. 30 And those whom he predestined he also called, and those whom he called he also justified, and those whom he justified he also glorified.
Baptism and communion are not additional works of grace in your life to save you nor even to sanctify you. They come out of obedience because of the holiness you already possess in Christ.
Communion - debates about presence
Worship - Liturgy doesn’t bring grace.

Jesus protects eternal life. Do you trust who He is?

If your salvation and faith is ultimately dependent on Jesus, not on you, then you can’t unsave yourself.
What about sin?

Even something as good as baptism can get between you and Jesus.
Who do you think Jesus is?
Community Group questions
How is Jesus not like a thief and a robber? (He does what the Father wants. He satisfies the Father’s wrath. He cares for the sheep by taking care of them in the Father’s world.)
How do you know if you are listening to Jesus—if you have heard his voice and are following Him? (John 3:16-21) Where do people struggle with doubt on this? How can we help people who doubt?
3. If Jesus provides eternal life, what areas does this cover? What other biblical metaphors does Jesus use in John besides Door and Shepherd to talk about this? How are these helpful to you?
4. If Jesus protects eternal life, what areas does this cover? Why do we sometimes doubt we are protected in those areas? How can we help our families with this?
