Introduction

Hello Dwell, this is Kenneth.
[1 second pause]
Today is Monday, October 21st. Thanks for joining us for today's Dwell Kids Daily!
[2 seconds of silence]
For the next few minutes, I invite you to join me as we look to our Great King by opening our hearts to hear from Him through the words of the Bible.
[2 seconds of silence]
Silence
As we begin, let us remember that God calls His people, young and old, to be still and know that He is God. Let's take a few seconds to clear our minds, so that we can hear him better.
[5 seconds of silence]
Opening Prayer
(Monday)
The heavens were formed and filled by your word, O God. When you spoke the stars shone forth in the night sky. Help us hear your words today – shape our hearts according to your will.
[3 seconds of silence]
Passage
Today our passage is Matthew chapter 9, verses 37 and 38:
English Standard Version (Chapter 9)
Then he (Jesus) said to his disciples, “The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few; therefore pray earnestly to the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest.”

Exhortation
Have you ever heard the story of how Jesus called his first disciples in the Gospel of Luke? It goes like this, Jesus was teaching people the Word of God by the Sea of Galilee. He asked a fisherman named Simon if he would take him out on his boat so the crowd to hear him better. When Jesus was done teaching the crowd, he told Simon to take the boat into deeper water and cast his nets. Simon told Jesus that they had been fishing all night and there were no fish. But, he ended up doing what Jesus said and put out his nets. Suddenly, the nets were full, too full! There were so many fish that the boat was beginning to sink! Simon, and his brother Andrew, had to call there friends James and John over to help them bring in all the fish! It was a miracle! They were filled with wonder and joy! Simon, who you might know as Peter, and Andrew, and James, and John all began to follow Jesus that day. They became his disciples. Jesus told them that he would make them fishers of men!
They sat under his teaching, and learned way more about who he was and what he was doing. They learned that Jesus, the great saving King was bringing his kingdom from heaven to earth. And they learned that they were a vital part of his royal plan!
As Jesus and his disciples went around the region of Galilee spreading the good news that God’s kingdom was arriving, Jesus looked out on all the hurting and lost people around them and he taught his disciples this lesson – he said there was a great field of fine wheat, ready to be harvested, but there were not enough workers in the field to gather up the whole harvest. Now the Master of this harvest, didn’t want to lose any of his wheat, so he needed more workers to help. This reminds me of Peter and Andrew struggling to bring in those fish, and calling James and John over to help them. There were too many fish and not enough fishermen. In Jesus’ story about the harvest there is too much wheat and not enough workers.
Now listen carefully, Jesus is saying that those lost and hurting people are the wheat he wants and the workers that are gathering them up are his disciples. The harvest is great, but the workers are few! More disciples are needed to gather up all the people God will have in his kingdom.
At the very end of Matthew’s Gospel account Jesus told his disciples to make disciples of all the nations, the whole world! And here’s the big thought for today: Jesus’ disciples make more disciples and then those disciples make disciples, and them those disciples make more disciples, and then tho…well, you understand right. We are his disciples, and we are called to make more disciples too. We do this by inviting more people into God’s kingdom.
Call to Action: Let’s take a few seconds, right now, and reflect on how we can be disciple making disciples.
[7 seconds of silence]
Closing Prayer
Let’s pray together.
[3 seconds of silence]
Father, you are the lord of the Harvest! We pray that you would send more workers into the world to gather up new people for your forever kingdom. Thank you for sending people into our lives to gather us up into your kingdom. Please help us to be good disciples of your Son. Please help us to share the good news with the lost and hurting around us. We ask this in the power of the Spirit and in the name of the Son, King Jesus. Amen.
