Intro:
Ask for two volunteers
Allow each student to stand at the front of the room.
Give each of them a piece of paper and a writing utensil
Using Revelation 19:11-16, give a description of the scene and challenge the students to draw what they envision.
Use this as a prompt:
Heaven opens
White horse comes out
The one who is sitting upon it is called Faithful and True
Righteously judges and makes war
Eyes are like fire
Many diadems on his head
A name written on Him that no one knows but Him
His rob is dipped in blood
He is called the Word of God
Armies that are dressed in white are following Him as he rides on the horse
A sword to strike down the nations comes from His mouth
He rules with a rod of iron
He stomps on on the grapes of the winepress of God’s wrath
Name written on His robe and thigh: “King of kings and Lord of lords”
Hard to capture
But true!
Main Point: Jesus will return for us one day and will end sin and death once and for all.
Three Reasons that Jesus is Coming Again:
The Lord is coming again to receive His bride
6 Then I heard what seemed to be the voice of a great multitude, like the roar of many waters and like the sound of mighty peals of thunder, crying out,
“Hallelujah!
For the Lord our God
the Almighty reigns.
7 Let us rejoice and exult
and give him the glory,
for the marriage of the Lamb has come,
and his Bride has made herself ready;
8 it was granted her to clothe herself
with fine linen, bright and pure”—
for the fine linen is the righteous deeds of the saints.
9 And the angel said to me, “Write this: Blessed are those who are invited to the marriage supper of the Lamb.” And he said to me, “These are the true words of God.”
Q. Who is the Bride?
Us (followers of Christ)!
The purpose of marriage; to symbolize God’s love for His people
Looking forward to being in His presence/the marriage
Q. How can we be called “the Bride” if the marriage hasn’t happened yet?
Context: Ancient Jewish marriage
Two step process
Step 1: Betrothal
Call each other husband and wife and are faithful to each other, although they still don’t live together yet and the marriage isn’t consummated
Step 2: Wedding ceremony
Husband picks up wife from her house, takes her to his house for wedding feast for several days
For us: we have been betrothed and await the wedding ceremony
Relationship is great > even greater in the future!
Q. What do you think Heaven will be like? How can this impact your worship now?
Joy and worship
Our worship now anticipates this
Q.How is the bride dressed (v. 8)? Read Isaiah 1:18. What connection do you see?
V. 8: Fine linen, bright and pure (righteous deeds)
Isaiah 1:18: Sin goes from red to white
Given as a gift (through Christ’s sacrifice)
Christ clothes us in His righteousness
Transition Statement: Let’s not forget that God’s love is coupled by His righteousness and judgement.
Main Point: Jesus will return for us one day and will end sin and death once and for all.
Three Reasons that Jesus is Coming Again:
The Lord is coming again to receive His bride
The Lord is coming again to crush all rebellion
11 Then I saw heaven opened, and behold, a white horse! The one sitting on it is called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he judges and makes war. 12 His eyes are like a flame of fire, and on his head are many diadems, and he has a name written that no one knows but himself. 13 He is clothed in a robe dipped in blood, and the name by which he is called is The Word of God. 14 And the armies of heaven, arrayed in fine linen, white and pure, were following him on white horses. 15 From his mouth comes a sharp sword with which to strike down the nations, and he will rule them with a rod of iron. He will tread the winepress of the fury of the wrath of God the Almighty. 16 On his robe and on his thigh he has a name written, King of kings and Lord of lords.

The second coming of Jesus
Q. How does this passage give you a different view of Jesus compared to His descriptin in the gospels?
Suffering Messiah > Conquering King
From from those who reject

Q. Who are the armies of heaven in verse 14?
It at least includes us, as indicated by clothes
Q. Do the armies have weapons?
Nope!
Q. What does it tell you that the army has no armor or weapons-only Jesus?
We join the battle, but He wins the victory
Main Point: Jesus will return for us one day and will end sin and death once and for all.

The Lord is coming again to receive His bride
The Lord is coming again to crush all rebellion
The Lord is coming again to judge sin and death
Revelation 20:11–15 (ESV)
11 Then I saw a great white throne and him who was seated on it. From his presence earth and sky fled away, and no place was found for them. 12 And I saw the dead, great and small, standing before the throne, and books were opened. Then another book was opened, which is the book of life. And the dead were judged by what was written in the books, according to what they had done. 13 And the sea gave up the dead who were in it, Death and Hades gave up the dead who were in them, and they were judged, each one of them, according to what they had done. 14 Then Death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. This is the second death, the lake of fire. 15 And if anyone’s name was not found written in the book of life, he was thrown into the lake of fire.
Q. What is described in this passage?
The final judgement
The pinnacle of the book
Lake of fire = second death, eternal dying
Q. How does reading about Jesus’s judgement of sin affect your view of sin?
Viewing sin as God does
Q. How do our names appear in the book of life? What happens if they aren’t listed?
Accepting Christ
Eternity separated
Christ Connection:
Jesus came to earth the first time as a suffering servant, but He will return as conquering King. At His return, Jesus will receive His bride, the church, and put an end to sin and death once and for all.
Head: Why should knowing there will be a final judgement give you an urgency to share and live out the Gospel?
Heart: How can knowing Christ already has victory over sin and death affect the way you live now?
Hands: What steps can you take today to prepare yourself to be the bride of Christ?
