Introduction
Our theme this year is called Brevity. What we’re talking about this week is “The Shortness Of Time” or “The Shortness Of Life.” What activities or events made you feel that time was short?
“Time moves so quickly, and no matter who we are or what we have done, the time will come when our lives will be over.”
Each day, each hour, each minute, and each second that we have in this life is inestimably valuable. You’re only as young as you can be at this moment. You only get one chance to live in the year of 2024. You only get one chance to live at the age that you’re in.
For all of us, our ultimate destiny on earth is the grave. You will die and you will most likely be forgotten hundreds of years later. But, the most important question is this: Do you know where you’re going after this life?
Middle
“Vanity of vanities, says the Preacher, vanity of vanities! All is vanity.” It means Vapour, or Breath, or Smoke. Life is like a vapour or smoke. You blow air during winter, and smoke comes out of your mouth, but it vanishes within seconds.
I don’t care how long you live. I don’t care what career you choose to pursue. I don’t care what university you go to. I don’t care what grades / GPA you have in school. I don’t care if you have straight As, honour roll, or whatever...What I pray and hope that you do while you’re still young is that you believe in the Lord Jesus Christ, study His word, and serve the LORD with zeal and passion by the power of the Holy Spirit before you become physically slow and weak.
Your pursuit of happiness and wealth ought to be found IN GOD because He alone can truly satisfy your deepest longings and desires. if you are a child of God, you’re actually RICH. Not rich physically with all the bills and coins that will perish. But rich spiritually because in Christ you have true richness.
Ending
God the Son - Jesus Christ - lived on earth for about 33 years before He went back to His Father after His resurrection. He lived and fulfilled the will of the Father in everything He did. If that’s what our Lord did, then we ought to imitate Him in our short life here on earth.
“Time is short. Eternity is long. It is only reasonable that this short life be lived in the light of eternity.”
“Each of us is given a race to run. Some are called to run a long race. Some are called to run a short race. What matters is not how long our race is, but how well we run it. It’s God’s business to determine how long we run; it’s our business to determine how well we run. It is so much better to run a short race well than a long race poorly.”
