Psalm 91

Trusting in God and Making Him Our Refuge

Now I wanted to go through Psalm 91 Because this is a really Awesome Psalm about the Protection we have From God

All of you are starting a new Season of Life going to school , starting a new year

Some of you graduated this year and are going to College

Some of you probably have boyfriends or girlfriends that we don’t know about

Some of you might be going to start a Job for the first time this year

Some of you might be getting kicked out of your house and you don’t know it yet

some of you might be getting your drivers license this year

some of you might be doing things you shouldn’t

some of you might just deal with fear and anxiety wondering what God has for you

some of you might be afraid of the evil in this world

some of you might feel like if your not in control of every aspect of life and you are going crazy in your mind

some of you might simply just need to hear that God loves you and that He alone protects you’

some of you might need to hear that what ever this world throws at us ; God Himself is our strength and He alone is our refuge

some of you might need to hear that God simply Loves you

what ever it is,

We are going to read it in Psalm 91 and see Just who God is when we lean on Him and place our trust in Him

Psalm 91:1 “1 He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High Shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.”

we as believers have the opportunity to live in Christ Jesus

A place where we get to experience continual Joy and peace,

its a place of safety

its a place where we can experience safety from the world around us and a place that we can run to in any situation for comfort

God protects us and God is Good to us

In him we have nothing to fear

Look at the life of David while he was running from King Saul

God up until a certain point was his dwelling place

the place he could run when he was being Hunted

the only way to actually abide in his shadow is to be close to Him

you cant be in someones shadow unless you are close to them

Psalm 91:2 “2 I will say of the Lord, “He is my refuge and my fortress; My God, in Him I will trust.”

Psalm 91:3 “3 Surely He shall deliver you from the snare of the fowler And from the perilous pestilence.”

satan loves to trap us , Satan is the fowler and we are the ones he wants to trap

God is the one who sets us free from the lies and the deceit from satan

God is the one that loosens us from that trap and God is the one that gives us a way out

through God we can escape satan and his servants

Traps are for animals , we are not animals , we are Gods children and his children he protects !

Psalm 91:4 “4 He shall cover you with His feathers, And under His wings you shall take refuge; His truth shall be your shield and buckler.”

the truth of God is a shield and it is our buckler

truth shields us from anything and everything that is false

a buckler is not like a buckle on your pants , it is actually a shield that blocks what ever lies may come to you

the truth itself in God is our shield

Psalm 91:5 “5 You shall not be afraid of the terror by night, Nor of the arrow that flies by day,”

Psalm 91:6 “6 Nor of the pestilence that walks in darkness, Nor of the destruction that lays waste at noonday.”

fear comes from an improper trust in God

it is falling short of trusting in God

Fear itself does not come from God

Only peace and understanding come from God

we are not to be afraid of the destruction this world has to offer

wether it comes by violence or by sickness, it should not be something we fear

plagues , floods, famine , hail, fire, it doesn’t matter

Talk about COVID and the fear that came about during it ( People placed their trust in “science” rather than God)

satan can throw what ever he wants at us but at the end of the day it doesn’t matter

Psalm 91:7 “7 A thousand may fall at your side, And ten thousand at your right hand; But it shall not come near you.”

Psalm 91:8 “8 Only with your eyes shall you look, And see the reward of the wicked.”

Gods protection beats all odds ; why ? because he is in control

people all around us may fall and die but God has the ability to keep us safe

people all around us , could be thousands may get sick and die , but God has the power to keep anyone of us from any of that

We have assurance through and in our God because he is sovereign; He is the supreme leader !

now the contrast here ; the wicked their reward

Gods judgement is is not spared to the wicked

the wicked are going to experience the wrath of God

we as believers are saved from the wrath of God

Romans 5:8–10 “8 But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. 9 Much more then, having now been justified by His blood, we shall be saved from wrath through Him. 10 For if when we were enemies we were reconciled to God through the death of His Son, much more, having been reconciled, we shall be saved by His life.”

yes we will be Judged but we don’t have to experience Gods wrath because what Jesus did on the cross was enough

Jesus experienced the wrath of God so that we don’t have to

we have a loving father who wants to wrap us up in his arms like a father does and he protects us

Psalm 91:9 “9 Because you have made the Lord, who is my refuge, Even the Most High, your dwelling place,”

Psalm 91:10 “10 No evil shall befall you, Nor shall any plague come near your dwelling;

when you make God your refuge , the place you dwell in , evil will not come to you

you trust in God to protect you and he will

now this doesn’t mean that we don’t get sick or that plagues and pestilence will not hit us

christians over all of time have been hit with plagues and pestilence , but at the end of the day , as a believer it cant truly hurt you

we get to look forward to eternity , so wether you die to something like a plague or sickness , you don’t have to fear it because one day we will be out of these earthly bodies and in our new ones !

evil and sickness have no reign in our life Only Go does !

Gods protection always prevails , it never fails !

Psalm 91:11 “11 For He shall give His angels charge over you, To keep you in all your ways.”

Psalm 91:12 “12 In their hands they shall bear you up, Lest you dash your foot against a stone.”

we as believers are protected by Angels , Angels are far greater beings than we humans are

they have more ability and capability and are from a spiritual realm that we don’t have a ton of understanding about

but God uses His angels to protect us

we literally have body guards watching over us at all times

I have many friends that have done a-lot of drugs and when you get into certain drugs , you see things that your not suppose to

you see a spiritual side from a demonic point of view

many of my friends that have told me some crazy stories have told me that when they were in darkness that they could see angels and spiritual beings around people who were walking in the light

Ephesians 6:12“12 For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places.”

Life as a believer is more spiritual than we understand , it is a constant battle with satan behind closed doors to win us over

but we have God on our side and he uses his body guards, The angels to protect His people

Hebrews 1:14 “14 Are they not all ministering spirits sent forth to minister for those who will inherit salvation?”

Psalm 103:20 “20 Bless the Lord, you His angels, Who excel in strength, who do His word, Heeding the voice of His word.”

Psalm 121:7–8 “7 The Lord shall preserve you from all evil; He shall preserve your soul. 8 The Lord shall preserve your going out and your coming in From this time forth, and even forevermore.”

God is the creator and the protector !

Psalm 91:13 “13 You shall tread upon the lion and the cobra, The young lion and the serpent you shall trample underfoot.”

all these animals, the lion, the cobra, the young lion and the serpent we will step on and defeat

its not specifically animals the Author is talking about but it is satan

all of these animals have the same things in common

they all sit and wait and stalk their prey before striking

thats what the enemy does and tries to do

but guess what, we as believers are able to step on the head on the snake and trample on the young lion

because we have God on our side

satan has zero dominion over us

only God has dominion over us

Psalm 91:14 “14 “Because he has set his love upon Me, therefore I will deliver him; I will set him on high, because he has known My name.”

Psalm 91:15 “15 He shall call upon Me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him and honor him.”

Psalm 91:16 “16 With long life I will satisfy him, And show him My salvation.””

those who chose to abide in the lord have the blessing of being provided for , protected , and we get to look forward to eternity with the Lord

no matter what this world throws at us , no matter how evil or how hateful or how difficult it is

we get to look forward to living life with our creator of the universe

He guides us, he leads us , and he protects us

Lets Turn over to Read( Psalm 95)

Psalm 95 “1 Oh come, let us sing to the Lord! Let us shout joyfully to the Rock of our salvation. 2 Let us come before His presence with thanksgiving; Let us shout joyfully to Him with psalms. 3 For the Lord is the great God, And the great King above all gods. 4 In His hand are the deep places of the earth; The heights of the hills are His also. 5 The sea is His, for He made it; And His hands formed the dry land. 6 Oh come, let us worship and bow down; Let us kneel before the Lord our Maker. 7 For He is our God, And we are the people of His pasture, And the sheep of His hand. Today, if you will hear His voice: 8 “Do not harden your hearts, as in the rebellion, As in the day of trial in the wilderness, 9 When your fathers tested Me; They tried Me, though they saw My work. 10 For forty years I was grieved with that generation, And said, ‘It is a people who go astray in their hearts, And they do not know My ways.’ 11 So I swore in My wrath, ‘They shall not enter My rest.’ ”

Abide in God and you will find rest

abide in God and you will find strength ,

abide in God and you will be protected

abide in God and you will have an assuring life

the snares

the pestilence

the arrows

the plagues

the stones

the lions

the snakes

( In other words satan ) Has nothing on the one true living God , all we have to do is abide in christ
