Introduction

Hello Dwell, this is Kenneth.
[1 second pause]
Today is Wednesday, October 23rd. Thanks for joining us for today's Dwell Kids Daily!
[2 seconds of silence]
For the next few minutes, I invite you to join me as we look to our Great King by opening our hearts to hear from Him through the words of the Bible.
[2 seconds of silence]
Silence
As we begin, let us remember that God calls His people, young and old, to be still and know that He is God. Let's take a few seconds to clear our minds, so that we can hear him better.
[5 seconds of silence]
Opening Prayer
(Wednesday)
Gracious God, your word is a lamp to our feet and a light to our path. Today, help us walk with you.
[3 seconds of silence]
Passage
Today our passage is Matthew chapter 10, verse 1:

Jesus called his 12 followers together. He gave them power to drive out evil spirits and to heal every kind of disease and sickness.

Exhortation
I’m sure you already know this, or have at least heard it before: Jesus is God. But what does that mean? Who is God, what is God? These are HUGE questions. And the answers to these questions can be very long and complicated, but there are also some simple, short answers. For example, consider Genesis 1. God is the creator of all things. He made the world and all that is in it. Well, this means that God is extremely powerful, just imagine it. He speaks and the stars swirl like massive hurricanes in the night sky. He summons the ground to stand tall and mountains are formed. But he’s not just all powerful, he’s also very delicate and careful. He puts every little feather in just the right place on a hummingbirds back. As the great creator, we know that he is wildly and wonderfully creative. He paints a new sunrise and sunset every single day. He dapples green gardens with colorful flowers and sets rainbows in sun-kissed skies. He also makes man and woman. In his image he makes them. Well, now this means that God is personal. He’s relational. He’s not some big powerful force in outer space, no, he’s a person, and he wants to have a relationship with his people.
So just on the first page of the Bible we’ve seen that God is powerful, careful, creative, and relational. And he’s good in all of these things. Now we know that God is a trinity of persons. Three persons. The Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. All one God. It’s very complicated and mysterious, but you could imagine that someone who can speak planets into existence, might be at least a little complicated and mysterious, right? But one of the most wonderful truths about God is that he loves us. More than we could ever imagine. And when we go astray, he comes to rescue us! When we are in danger, he saves us. When we do wrong things, he corrects us. In our passage today, Jesus, the creator of all things, God the Son, gives his disciples some of his power. Wow! Now, is this power to be used for good or for bad? Well, we know that God is good, so when Jesus gives his power to his disciples, its definitely for good. They can cast out evil spirits and heal the sick.
When God made humans in his image, they were designed to be like him. So too, Jesus’ disciples are supposed to be a lot like Jesus. If you are a disciple of Jesus today, then he is calling you to be like him. Powerful, careful, creative, and relational…all aimed at showing everyone around you the goodness of God.
Call to Action: Let’s take a moment to reflect on the goodness of God and the wonders that he has done!
[7 seconds of silence]
Closing Prayer
Let’s pray together.
[3 seconds of silence]
Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, you are good! Teach us through your word. Help us to know you better, help us to be like you in the ways you have called us to. We are forever grateful to be your disciples, lead us today, guide us, give us power to overcome evil, and help us to bring healing to the broken world around us, like Jesus did. We ask this in his holy name. Amen.
