Okay! (recap on what we’ve started)
NOW! We move on to what came next after Jesus’ baptism! Something very serious happened to him. He was taken into the wilderness.
Now has anyone here ever been camping in the woods? Nobody else around, maybe just with a tent? For how long? And y’all probably had food and water and pillows and flashlights. Well, Here Jesus got led into the wilderness for…guess how long he was out there! - 40 days and 40 nights! By himself!! But good thing is the Bible says angels looked after him. But guess what else..
He was WITHOUT food the whole time!! can you go without food for that long?! Sounds wild, doesnt it.
Well…something happened to him while he was in the wild with no food.
And now....y’all shall be challenged…cause y’all know I love to challenge yall muahaha.
The devil came to Jesus and tempted him!
(Put a chart up top on wall (Jesus vs Satan) also...(Put food infront of kids)(They can eat it)
Read what was said Matthew 4:3-4
During that time the devil came and said to him, “If you are the Son of God, tell these stones to become loaves of bread.”
But Jesus told him, “No! The Scriptures say, ‘People do not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.’”
Jesus can surely turn stones into bread, but he is not about to let the devil win at tempting him!
So then…the devil continued to tempt him, not with food this time, but like this...
Then the devil took him to the holy city, Jerusalem, to the highest point of the Temple,
and said, “If you are the Son of God, jump off! For the Scriptures say, ‘He will order his angels to protect you. And they will hold you up with their hands so you won’t even hurt your foot on a stone.’ ”
Jesus responded, “The Scriptures also say, ‘You must not test the Lord your God.’”
The devil is not giving up on tempting Jesus. So round three comes!!
Next the devil took him to the peak of a very high mountain and showed him all the kingdoms of the world and their glory.
“I will give it all to you,” he said, “if you will kneel down and worship me.”
“Get out of here, Satan,” Jesus told him. “For the Scriptures say, ‘You must worship the Lord your God and serve only him.’”
Then the devil went away, and angels came and took care of Jesus.
We have a winner!!! The devil has lost.
Now, if y’all are going to remember anything from this lesson…its that sometimes we are tempted to do bad things, say mean things, do things we shouldnt ought to do, things that look good but really arent. So what we need to do if we are tempted to do what we shouldnt and listen to the evil one, is to pray. If you have a Bible, read it, if you have questions, ask me or your parent. That way we can fight against the devils schemes. And the Lord gives us the way out of temptation so we can overcome it, just like Jesus did.
