Good morning Church

Bibles out…
Exodus 2:11-25.
Intro:
Recap of last week
-We talked about how the Israelites were brought to Egypt at the end of Genesis…
Through God’s work in and through Joseph…the people of Israel were brought to Egypt to be saved and delivered from famine…
And they dwelled there…and became a great nation…
God multiplied them just as he said he would...
They were so fruitful in fact and they grew so much that the King over Egypt began to fear how mighty they were getting…
So he began to enslave them…
a harsh enslavement… (heavy burdens, torturous labor)
But still they multiplied…
Genocide…began killing all the male children…
The point is…GODS PEOPLE ARE SUFFERING GREATLY…
BUT…at the end of last week we saw a glimmer of hope!!!
The birth of Moses…
As a baby…hidden…basket boat…floating down the nile river...
Into the lap of Pharaohs own daughter…
A Hebrew boy who wasn't supposed to live…
Now the adopted grandson of the King of Egypt…
Thats where we pick up today…
READ VV11a
- Moses grown up…40 years old
Stephen in Acts 7, lets us know that Moses was educated and respected…had High stature
Acts 7:22–23 “And Moses was instructed in all the wisdom of the Egyptians, and he was mighty in his words and deeds. “When he was forty years old, it came into his heart to visit his brothers, the children of Israel.”
A man in a position of power and he filled this position well…
But that doesnt matter…
Moses’s heart is being drawn toward his true people…
And when he looked upon HIS people…
He saw their burdens their burdens
His identity is not an Egyptian…
Its not a man of power…
Its not the grandson of Pharoah…
He has discovered that his identity is in the one true God…
He is apart of the LORD’s people…
Hebrews 11:24–26 “By faith Moses, when he was grown up, refused to be called the son of Pharaoh’s daughter, choosing rather to be mistreated with the people of God than to enjoy the fleeting pleasures of sin. He considered the reproach of Christ greater wealth than the treasures of Egypt, for he was looking to the reward.”
Moses knows who he is…and now is realizing the role that God will use him for…
Look what happens next…
READ 11b-12
He sees an Egyptian beating a Hebrew slave
He see’s the oppression of his people
He was ready to fulfill his role as the deliverer!!!
So he takes things into his own hands…
And Murders the Egyptian…
Something stirred in the heart of Moses for his people…
A sense of not only identity…but a sense of remorse and a desire to act…a desire to do something…
A desire to deliver…
He see’s the abuse of his people and in all his wisdom and stature as apart of the royal family of Pharoah…
He takes it upon himself to begin the deliverance of his people by killing the one who is beating them down…
He looks around…makes sure no one is watching…
He kills the Egyptian and buries the body…
In Moses’s mind he has just kicked things off right...
I mean…he must be thinking I am a man of stature…
I have trained for this…
I am full of wisdom…
I am mighty in words and deeds…
I will deliver MY people…
I mean how excited are God’s people about to be that they are going to be delivered by me…
Lets see…
READ V13-22
Moses comes out the next day…
Sees 2 hebrews fighting together…
He looks at the man in the wrong and says, “why are you hitting your brother?”
And there response instantly shuts down every hope that chapter 1 built up last week…
The Hebrews respond by saying “WHO ARE YOU?!?!”
“Who made you a prince and a judge over us?”
Who made you the head of us?
Who made you our deliverer?
On whose authority do you command us? or lead us??
Wheres your credentials bro???
They don’t know him as the deliverer…
Acts 7:25 “He supposed that his brothers would understand that God was giving them salvation by his hand, but they did not understand.”
In fact, they may not know who he is…
But they let him know that they know what he did…
“what are you gonna do…you gonna kill us like you did that Egyptian yesterday?”
And when they said these words…
The bible says this…MOSES WAS AFRAID
When he realized this thing was known…
he became afraid…
And for good reason, because when Pharoah hears about it…
He sought to have Moses killed for murdering the Egyptian…
So Moses flees to this land called Midian…
Midian a desert wilderness
He runs away…He exiles in a foreign desert land…
Finds a well there and sits down by it…
This is a low point for Moses…the supposed deliverer of the great nation of Israel…
Sitting by a well in the backside of the desert…
Then 7 daughters of a priest come to water the flock…
Shepherds come and drive the daughters away from the well…
Moses stands up, helped the daughters drive off the shepherds, and then served them by watering their flock…
They go back, and dads like how are you back so soon?
And they tell him that they were being driven off the well by the shepherds but and Egyptian was there and he delivered them from the shepherds and helped them water the flock…
And the priest Reuel says…bring him hear to eat bread with us…
And the bible says Moses comes and…
“MOSES WAS CONTENT LIVING WITH THE MAN”
He even gives Moses one of His daughters to marry…
And Moses is prepared to settle down in the land of Midian…
So here is where we are church…
We came out of CH1 into the birth of Moses with so much hope…
That the people of Israel would be delivered from bondage…
But now…Everything seems to have fallen apart…
Gods people are still being ruthlessly enslaved...
And the guy that is supposed to deliver them…
Is a fugitive on the run for murder…sitting by a well in the middle of a desert he doesn't belong in…
Now he is all settled down in this land with a wife and some kids…
He has walked away from his calling to deliver the people…
Things look pretty bleak don’t they…
Like this isn't how its supposed to go!!!
The hero is supposed to save the people!!!
WHAT IS HAPPENING?!?!?!
God’s people are sitting in a period of not only hard suffering but LONG SUFFERING…
Decades of suffering…
Some of us are right here to aren't we???
Like we can relate with this...
A season of LONG SUFFERING…
Physical long suffering…
-sickness, injury, exhaustion,
Financial long suffering…
-Bad economy, Job loss,
Spiritual Lon suffering…
-Sin struggles, addiction struggles,
Emotional Long suffering…
-Anxiety, depression, insecurity
Everything is falling apart with no end in site…
This is where the people of Israel are…
God you promised us deliverance…
Where is our deliverer?!?!?!
WE ARE SUFFERING!!!
Where are you???!!!
READ V23-25
The people of Israel groaned…
They are lamenting to the Lord…
LORD HELP US!!!
We are in bondage!!!
AND WHAT IS GODS RESPONSE????
The Lord responds in 4 ways…
The bible says that the LORD:
-Hears the peoples groans…
-He Remembers the covenant He made with them…
-He see’s them in their struggles…
-And HE KNOWS THEM…
God says I HEAR YOU…
I hear your cries out to me…
I REMEMBER THE PROMISE I MADE TO YOU…
To make you a great nation!!! To deliver you!!!
I SEE YOU…
I see you in bondage…
AND I KNOW YOU…
I know your suffering…I know you are hurting….
I KNOW…
If your a parent in here…
And your child is in pain or suffering…
If their sick…or hurt…
and they cry out…you hear it...
You see their pain…
You remember that they are your child…
You belong to them and you made a promise to protect them to rescue them to grow them…
AND YOU KNOW THERE IN PAIN…
CHURCH…JUST LIKE YOU DO AS A PARENT…
WHEN YOU KNOW YOU ACT…
AND WHEN THE LORD KNOWS…HE ACTS!!!
(PAUSE)
Moses, the one who is supposed to deliver the people, is off in a foreign land…
His first attempt to deliver the people on his own was a failure…
Neither Moses nor the people of Israel are ready for the Exodus out of Egypt…
Even in all his wisdom and stature…
Moses was not ready to deliver the people…
In fact we find he is 40 years ahead of the Lord in being the deliverer that he is supposed to be…
So God does with Moses…what He does with every man He has chosen in the bible to prepare them…
He takes them to the desert places…
The wilderness places…Like Midian
Abraham, Moses, The Israelite people (as we will see), David, John the Baptist, Jesus (40 days in the wilderness before His ministry)…
God does this…
TO PREPARE THEM TO DO HIS WILL…NOT THEIR OWN…
TO COMPLETELY DEPEND ON HIM…NOT THEMSELVES…
TO BE THE WORK OF HIS HAND…NOT THEIR OWN…
Moses needs to be prepared…
He tried to be the deliverer on his own…
But as we will see…Its only by God’s will and power that the people will be delivered…
HE CALLS THE SHOT…
And when God is ready, and Moses is ready, and the people are ready…
The LORD will kick off the exodus…
In verse 21- Moses is content living with Reuel in Midian…
But something changes that we need to draw our attention to…
Just one verse later the bible says this…
Exodus 2:22 “She gave birth to a son, and he called his name Gershom, for he said, “I have been a sojourner in a foreign land.””
The name Gershom in the Hebrew means “Foreigner”
Moses knows he is in a land he doesn't belong in…
And he has a calling that wont let him fully settle there…
And now that the old Pharaoh has died…
Moses can return as a prophet for the Lord…
Instead of a fugitive…
And as we will see next week…
With the full authority and true name of the Lord…
Moses will return to deliver God’s people…
HERE IS WHAT YOU TAKE HOME WITH YOU TODAY CHURCH…
SEE THIS IN THE TEXT TODAY…
WE SERVE A GOD THAT…KNOWS YOU, SEES YOU, REMEMBERS HIS PROMISES TO YOU…AND KNOWS WHEN YOUR IN PAIN…
AND WHEN GOD KNOWS…HE ACTS…
He saw the suffering of the Israelites under the bondage of slavery and as we will see next week…HE ACTS
When He saw that we were under the bondage of sin and death…
HE ACTED…
By sending his own Son…to die on the cross…TO FREE US FROM THE SLAVERY OF SIN!!!
Just like Moses…Jesus was rejected as the savior of His people…
And he went and took a gentile bride before he returns to deliver them…
Jesus…rejected by His own people…praise God has taken a gentile bride (THE CHURCH) and HE WILL RETURN AGAIN
LETS PRAY!!!
