Freedom

John 8:31–32 NLT
31 Jesus said to the people who believed in him, “You are truly my disciples if you remain faithful to my teachings. 32 And you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”
Ephesians 4:14–16 NLT
14 Then we will no longer be immature like children. We won’t be tossed and blown about by every wind of new teaching. We will not be influenced when people try to trick us with lies so clever they sound like the truth. 15 Instead, we will speak the truth in love, growing in every way more and more like Christ, who is the head of his body, the church. 16 He makes the whole body fit together perfectly. As each part does its own special work, it helps the other parts grow, so that the whole body is healthy and growing and full of love.
So we have been talking about some truths from scripture and trying to look at what those truly look like as they are walked out in ones life.
John 8:32 NLT
32 And you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”
What do you think of when you think about freedom
John 8:31–36 NLT
31 Jesus said to the people who believed in him, “You are truly my disciples if you remain faithful to my teachings. 32 And you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” 33 “But we are descendants of Abraham,” they said. “We have never been slaves to anyone. What do you mean, ‘You will be set free’?” 34 Jesus replied, “I tell you the truth, everyone who sins is a slave of sin. 35 A slave is not a permanent member of the family, but a son is part of the family forever. 36 So if the Son sets you free, you are truly free.

True Freedom is about staying Faithful to His teachings.
Freedom is not just about having the knowledge of what the Bible says, but it is putting it into practice.
Matthew 7:24–27 NKJV
24 “Therefore whoever hears these sayings of Mine, and does them, I will liken him to a wise man who built his house on the rock: 25 and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it did not fall, for it was founded on the rock. 26 “But everyone who hears these sayings of Mine, and does not do them, will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand: 27 and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it fell. And great was its fall.”
Putting the truth of Gods word into practice is what it means to walk in true freedom.
You see Christ died to set us free from the power of sin in our life, but if you don’t know what true freedom is you will use your freedom to make choices that move you right back into bondage to the very sin that Christ has redeemed you from.
There are many scriptures in God’s word that warn us about this very thing, That freedom is about more than just choosing to indulged in what ever we would choose.
Galatians 5:1 NLT
1 So Christ has truly set us free. Now make sure that you stay free, and don’t get tied up again in slavery to the law.
Galatians 5:13 NLT
13 For you have been called to live in freedom, my brothers and sisters. But don’t use your freedom to satisfy your sinful nature. Instead, use your freedom to serve one another in love.
1 Peter 2:16 NLT
16 For you are free, yet you are God’s slaves, so don’t use your freedom as an excuse to do evil.
you see Freedom in Christ is not about using freedom to indulge the flesh, but about being set free from the power that sin holds people in Bondage.
2 Corinthians 3:14–18 NKJV
14 But their minds were blinded. For until this day the same veil remains unlifted in the reading of the Old Testament, because the veil is taken away in Christ. 15 But even to this day, when Moses is read, a veil lies on their heart. 16 Nevertheless when one turns to the Lord, the veil is taken away. 17 Now the Lord is the Spirit; and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty. 18 But we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as by the Spirit of the Lord.
Read Tony Evans Commentary 2 Corinthians 3:14_18
So many people think that if they are free to do as they please that then they will be fulfilled in life, but true freedom is knowing and putting into practice the truth of God’s word that makes people free.
Read Ephesians 5:22-6:9
There are so many truths in the scriptures that could and would change the lives of so many believers, but so many in the church do not know what true freedom is.
True freedom is the ability to take a truth of God’s word and through the power of the Spirit at work in the life of a believer, begin to live out that truth of how God has called us to live.
John 8:32 NLT
32 And you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”
