Timothy is to stir up the gift that is within him.
He has been ordained. They have laid hands on him. He is to be bold in the faith.
He can be bold as he has a true faith.
He knows God, knows God is in control so there is no fear in God.
But
Power, Love and a Sound Mind.
Therefore Do not be Ashamed
Therefore Do not be Ashamed
Therefore —
because in the Lord their is a spirit of power, a knowledge that we have super natural help, that the creator is looking to help us…
Because we have experienced the amazing grace of God. Our sins have been forgiven and we have met God, this love and joy compels us to reach out to others.
Because we know the truth. We are grounded and established in the Word, firm in our knowledge and convictions. We are not being pushed around.
This has been given to us at salvation. When the Holy Spirit enters our hearts, we know God, we see truth, we start to feel from a heart of Love… This is the new
Do not be Ashamed
Why would we be ashamed?
Why would we be ashamed?
Many speech with swelling words… Higher mysteries, hidden knowledge, wisdom of years…
Many have better speech, better dress, better manners, more money and intimidate us.
We are often called to take hard stands, to rebuke false gospels, to stop heresies…
But
We have the Lord on our side.
We have His clear word, which is to be understood in it’s clear sense.
We have the Apostles and writers of scripture on our side.
Paul’s Counsel
Paul’s Counsel
Don’t be Ashamed of the testimony of our Lord.
Is there only one was into heaven?
Does mixing circumcision with faith destroy the gospel?
Did the Jews really Kill their Messiah?
Are men’s hearts evil?
Will God truly God us?
Is there a hell?
Must we really live Holy lives? Where is the line for sin?
Or of me His prisoner,
For Timothy, being identified with a man under Roman arrest was dangerous. He was a follower of the same doctrines that got Paul in Jail, beaten, and persecuted. Are you sure you want to identify with Paul? Don’t be Ashamed!
1 John 1:3 “3 that which we have seen and heard we declare to you, that you also may have fellowship with us; and truly our fellowship is with the Father and with His Son Jesus Christ.”
We as well struggle to stand in this dark world.
Christians? aren’t you dangerous fundamentalist? Radicals? Terrorist? fanatics? Lunatics? Foolish? strick? Narrow? Judgers? Haters?
The Bible? How can you believe a book that is that old, copied that many times, from different languages? Probably was put together from different
But share with me in the suffer for the gospel...
1 Peter 4:1 “1 Therefore, since Christ suffered for us in the flesh, arm yourselves also with the same mind, for he who has suffered in the flesh has ceased from sin,”
Here is the call of the Gospel, to reject the world and follow God.
Not Alone in our Suffering for Christ
Not Alone in our Suffering for Christ
According to the power of God.
1 Corinthians 1:18 “18 For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.”
Romans 1:16 “16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes, for the Jew first and also for the Greek.”
Titus 3:4–5 “4 But when the kindness and the love of God our Savior toward man appeared, 5 not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to His mercy He saved us, through the washing of regeneration and renewing of the Holy Spirit,”
Who saved us!
A miracle of creation happens inside of us.
What was dead, is filled with life, what was hard, becomes soft…
Who called us!
Romans 8:28 “28 And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.”
Romans 8:30 “30 Moreover whom He predestined, these He also called; whom He called, these He also justified; and whom He justified, these He also glorified.”
2 Thessalonians 2:13–14 “13 But we are bound to give thanks to God always for you, brethren beloved by the Lord, because God from the beginning chose you for salvation through sanctification by the Spirit and belief in the truth, 14 to which He called you by our gospel, for the obtaining of the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ.”
With a Holy Calling.
1 Peter 2:9–10 “9 But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light; 10 who once were not a people but are now the people of God, who had not obtained mercy but now have obtained mercy.”
1 Peter 2:11–12 “11 Beloved, I beg you as sojourners and pilgrims, abstain from fleshly lusts which war against the soul, 12 having your conduct honorable among the Gentiles, that when they speak against you as evildoers, they may, by your good works which they observe, glorify God in the day of visitation.”
Philippians 2:12–13 “12 Therefore, my beloved, as you have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling; 13 for it is God who works in you both to will and to do for His good pleasure.”
2 Timothy 1:9–10 “9 who has saved us and called us with a holy calling, not according to our works, but according to His own purpose and grace which was given to us in Christ Jesus before time began, 10 but has now been revealed by the appearing of our Savior Jesus Christ, who has abolished death and brought life and immortality to light through the gospel,”
Here is the majesty of the gospel laid bare.
It existed before time began.
It was given to us, before our birth, before time began.
It has only now been revealed by the appearing of Jesus Christ…
Notice what this appearing did? It didn’t only reveal the righteousness of God in saving sinners Romans 3:26 “26 to demonstrate at the present time His righteousness, that He might be just and the justifier of the one who has faith in Jesus.” ; But He abolished death…
Death has no sting, no power, no might. It has lost its strength and just remains as a shadow to pass through.
And brought life and immortality to light through the gospel.
Here is the end result of the life of Christ.
