What is the text asking us to do? Attitude, Behaviour, Cognition, Desire?
Pre-Intro: If you have your scripture notebooks which I hope you do…..we are going to be in just the first 7 verses tonight, but before we begin….can anyone recap for me what we learned last week about 2 Timothy in general? The Apostle Paul, the same guy who wrote about half of the books in the New testament, is writing this last farewell or this last sort of swan song to his young protege Timothy, or as Paul would describe him, his beloved son in the faith. But whats the problem, the problem is that little Timmy here is afraid, timid, even seemingly not ready or fit to take on this ministry that Paul is sort of pushing him towards.

Transition Question: how does this relate to our text?
MAIN IDEA: God shapes us by His grace, so we can Keep the gospel.
Transition Sentence: In the text we discover three ways God shapes us by his grace.
1. DS: He shapes us by his will
Argue the text: Explain how God shaped the Apostle Paul by his Grace.
2 Timothy 1:1–2 (CSB)
Paul, an apostle of Christ Jesus by God’s will, for the sake of the promise of life in Christ Jesus:
To Timothy, my dearly loved son.
Grace, mercy, and peace from God the Father and Christ Jesus our Lord.
argument/application/
2. DS: He shapes us by our Circumstances
Argue the text: How are we shaped by our circumstances
Studies show that 75 percent of kids whose parents attend church regularly will also grow up to attend church regularly.
Timothy is shaped by the influence of his family and mentor
Do not be ashamed of the testimony of following after your parents faith.
2 Timothy 1:3–5 (CSB)
I thank God, whom I serve with a clear conscience as my ancestors did, when I constantly remember you in my prayers night and day. Remembering your tears, I long to see you so that I may be filled with joy. I recall your sincere faith that first lived in your grandmother Lois and in your mother Eunice and now, I am convinced, is in you also.
3. DS:
He shapes us by our Gifts
We see this in athletes. Athletes will compete in sports or roles on a team in which their body type gives them a certain advantage. For example, you don’t see scrawny mcgee lining up on the offensive line in a football game. Likewise, you wouldn’t see shaq o’neal in a rock climbing competition. Paul is reminding timothy of the gifts God has given him, and to use them for the sake of The Gospel.
2 Timothy 1:5–7 CSB
I recall your sincere faith that first lived in your grandmother Lois and in your mother Eunice and now, I am convinced, is in you also. Therefore, I remind you to rekindle the gift of God that is in you through the laying on of my hands. For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but one of power, love, and sound judgment.
CONCLUSION: Many of us are timid and weak in our faith(Go back to the Tennis analogy)
We need to, by the power of the holy spirit and the gifts God has given us, be bold in the Gospel.
Share the Gospel.
