Commit Your Way to the Lord
Commit Your Way to the Lord
What does Commit your way mean?
Path? Journey, distance enterprise, business manner custom behaviour action activity.... conduct required… strength power...
Psalm 103:7 “7 He made known His ways to Moses, His acts to the children of Israel.”
The ways of God implies more than the external paths we tread. That is His acts.
It also implies His manners, custom and behaviour. The inner part of why He does what He does.
It is what guides His decisions, what motivates Him and what are the principles inside of Him.
It is what makes God unchanging.
If we use this definition, I think that we are closer to the mean of this verse than ascribing a softer out only ....
God is always concerned for our heart.
Matthew 22:37–39 “37 Jesus said to him, “ ‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.’ 38 This is the first and great commandment. 39 And the second is like it: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’”
1 Corinthians 10:31 “31 Therefore, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.”
Genesis 6:5 “5 Then the Lord saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every intent of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.”
When we are following the Lord God is also most concerned with our hearts.
Psalm 37:3–4 “3 Trust in the Lord, and do good; Dwell in the land, and feed on His faithfulness. 4 Delight yourself also in the Lord, And He shall give you the desires of your heart.”
Revelation 2:3–5 “3 and you have persevered and have patience, and have labored for My name’s sake and have not become weary. 4 Nevertheless I have this against you, that you have left your first love. 5 Remember therefore from where you have fallen; repent and do the first works, or else I will come to you quickly and remove your lampstand from its place—unless you repent.”
Putting it together
We are to set our hearts according to the priorities of God. …
This set of priorities in looking out for God’s glory, declaring His worth, upholding His name should guild us through the many situations of life.
We can’t know the individual situations that we will face.
Yet we can have guidelines that will lead us to follow God’s will.
We can violate His law.
We can compromise with evil.
We must put our reliance on Him alone.
We are to be followers of Him, not in word only, or action only, but from the heart.
Why does the Psalmist have to give us this admonition and promise?
If is our hearts that weaken first. We are the ones who think of turning aside, if their isn’t an easier way....
The Promise:
Psalm 37:5–6 “5 Commit your way to the Lord, Trust also in Him, And He shall bring it to pass. 6 He shall bring forth your righteousness as the light, And your justice as the noonday.”
Notice how fitting each of these promises are.
He will bring your way to pass...
He will bring forth your righteousness as the light… (undeniable, clear, bright, known…)
Your judgments will stand the test of time as they are based on God’s judgments.
Spurgeon — Time will prove me out. He adversaries are unknown while Surgeons fame grows year by year.
This is only for those who are willing to “Commit your way to the Lord” Heart, mind and soul are to be His.
Being Still
Being Still
Psalm 37:7 “7 Rest in the Lord, and wait patiently for Him; Do not fret because of him who prospers in his way, Because of the man who brings wicked schemes to pass.”
Rest in the Lord and wait patiently for Him.
When God speaks of being still, it isn’t an absence of work, or labor, but an absence of worry...
We often fret because of evil doers. (Who doesn’t?) We see them with their wicked schemes and watch as they succeed. Yet what are we to do…
Isaiah 8:12–14 “12 “Do not say, ‘A conspiracy,’ Concerning all that this people call a conspiracy, Nor be afraid of their threats, nor be troubled. 13 The Lord of hosts, Him you shall hallow; Let Him be your fear, And let Him be your dread. 14 He will be as a sanctuary, But a stone of stumbling and a rock of offense To both the houses of Israel, As a trap and a snare to the inhabitants of Jerusalem.”
The Promises for Resting in the Lord?
None: Just another exhortation… Do not fret because of Him who prospers in the way....
