The Trailman motto is, “Walk Worthy”. (That’s going to help you later tonight.) But what does it mean to walk worthy? First lets look at the Bible verse where this motto comes from.
so as to walk in a manner worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing to him: bearing fruit in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God;
1. Walk
1. Walk
Obviously, you guys know how to walk physically. You put one foot in front of the other to get where you are going. But to Walk worthy isn’t talking about taking a hike. It is about how you choose to live your life. Every decision you make determins how you walk. And everyone walks. Some people make good choices, while others make bad choices. So lets look at the next word in the Motto.
2. Worthy (of the LORD)
2. Worthy (of the LORD)
the second part of the motto is Worthy. This part tells us how we are supposed to walk. Worthy means to measure up. Lets look at it this way. When you go to the store how do you know what an item is worth? Its price tag. Somethings worth is normally equal to its cost. (The price you pay.) Which of these items is worth more? (Pencil/HotWheel Car, Ball/ lego, or Tablet/ phone) The phone right? Now imagine you were to go and buy a new Remote control car that cost $20. That car should work good right? Imagine that you put the batteries into it ,turned it on, and pushed the go button… but nothing happened. You’d be pretty mad right. You’d probbably call that thing a piece of junk and say it wasn’t worth what you paid for it.
God loves you. He made you and wants you to be with him forever in Heaven forever. The problem is we don’t always live the way he wants. We disobey him, and we call that disobediance “Sin”. Romans 3:23 “for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,”
And sin has a price, just like that toy. Romans 6:23 “For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Sin costs death. And we all owe that debt. And we cannot pay that debt on our own. Sin doesn’t get canceled out by good things. Anyone who has ever sinned is guilty and deserves to die, and that’s all of us.
But God being loving chose to give us life, by paying the price for us. Jesus died on the cross, for your and my sin. His death, buys us life when we put our faith in him We get to live with Him forever in Heaven. Salvation comes only by placing our faith in Jesus.
For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast.
Your belief or not in Jesus is completely up to you. Neither God nor us here at Trail life will force that decision on you, rather it is simply the gift of God that He has provided.
Which brings us to the question of the motto. Do you walk worthy? Do you try to live up to God’s standards? Do you seek to please God in all you do?
so as to walk in a manner worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing to him: bearing fruit in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God;
Are you seeking to do good works for Jesus and seeking to grow in your knowledge of Jesus each day? God does what is right, He is holy and good. So our goal is to walk worthy, in his ways. To live according to his ways and desires in all our ways. So while you are here at trail life, we do expect you to act in a way that “walks worthy”.
Let’s pray.
