Intro: We have studied this psalm with the intent of “Preparing For Victory” in life. We have discovered that God is our;
Dwelling place, deliverer, our defense against dangers/death and God wants us to Claim Victory in Christ.
I know this may be hard to believe, but there are many believers today who cannot “Claim Victory In Christ”. Now I know that sounds like a paradox, but it’s a true statement!
They have victory over sin in His salvation, but they do not live abundantly in Christ daily. They are in the spiritual race race of faith, but they are tired, fainting, and falling way. They can’t seem to get over some of the hurdles of sin or the weight of burdens set before them and some simply quit running altogether!
So I want us to look at this last section of Psalm 91 and see how to finish the race faith and Claim Victory In Christ!
Text; Ps. 91:14-16
Psalm 91:14–16 NKJV
14 “Because he has set his love upon Me, therefore I will deliver him; I will set him on high, because he has known My name. 15 He shall call upon Me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him and honor him. 16 With long life I will satisfy him, And show him My salvation.”

1. Set Our Love on Christ; 14a

“He”- is third person and you can place your name there!
Love- Hebrew word used for "love" here is unusual and rarely used.
{khaw-shak'/ha-shock’}. It carries the idea of "attaching something to another."
An example would be attaching a saddle to a horse. The horse and saddle become one and when the rider gets in the saddle, the saddle enables the rider to be one with the horse and confident in any movements the horse will make. That saddle is “love/faith”.
“Love and faith” allow us to become one with Christ and confident in Him!
John 14:1 (NKJV)
1Let not your heart be troubled; you believe in God, believe also in Me.
John 16:33 (NKJV)
33 These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.”
John 17:20–26 (NKJV)
20I do not pray for these alone, but also for those who will believe in Me through their word;
21 that they all may be one, as You, Father, are in Me, and I in You; that they also may be one in Us, that the world may believe that You sent Me.
22 And the glory which You gave Me I have given them, that they may be one just as We are one:
23 I in them, and You in Me; that they may be made perfect in one, and that the world may know that You have sent Me, and have loved them as You have loved Me.
24Father, I desire that they also whom You gave Me may be with Me where I am, that they may behold My glory which You have given Me; for You loved Me before the foundation of the world.
25 O righteous Father! The world has not known You, but I have known You; and these have known that You sent Me.
26 And I have declared to them Your name, and will declare it, that the love with which You loved Me may be in them, and I in them.”
God's promises are for those who cling to Him in faith. God’s promises are for those who bind themselves to the Lord in love. God’s promises are for those who wrap themselves in the Savior and His precious blood!
“Claiming Victory in Christ” is setting our affections on Him even as we would anything that we desire in the flesh. How often we will sacrifice all [comfort, money, time] to obtain what we want in the world! We must do the same and more in Christ.

2. Christ Manifests His Love; 14b-16

Manifest- one’s acts or demonstration, evidence by proof, something clear/obvious to the eye or mind
The Father manifested His love for his creation by giving His Son for our Sin!
John 3:16 (NKJV)
16 For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.
Romans 5:8 NKJV
8 But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
But those who set their love on Him, who saddle up with Jesus by faith, He manifests His love to us beyond salvation that enables us to Claim Victory in Christ on a daily basis!
Deliver’s Us- Jesus came to rescue us from our most fearsome enemies: death, hell, Satan, and the judgment of a holy God. The fear of facing a holy God may not make the top of people’s list of fears right now, but there will be a day when it will immediately rise to the top of the list.
And that is the wonder of the gospel: salvation is the shield by which we are protected from his just wrath.
Christ delivers in our daily needs, from our daily sin, and all our daily enemies.
Matthew 6:11–13 (NKJV)
11 Give us this day our daily bread.
12 And forgive us our debts, As we forgive our debtors.
13 And do not lead us into temptation, But deliver us from the evil one. For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.
Exalts Us- set on high, a place of safety to never be forsaken because you have known Him in faith. He gives spiritual riches for earthly living.
Ephesians 1:3 NKJV
3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ,
What are these spiritual blessings in Christ?
Ephesians 1:17–23 NKJV
17 that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give to you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Him, 18 the eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that you may know what is the hope of His calling, what are the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints, 19 and what is the exceeding greatness of His power toward us who believe, according to the working of His mighty power 20 which He worked in Christ when He raised Him from the dead and seated Him at His right hand in the heavenly places, 21 far above all principality and power and might and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this age but also in that which is to come. 22 And He put all things under His feet, and gave Him to be head over all things to the church, 23 which is His body, the fullness of Him who fills all in all.
Ephesians 3:14–19 NKJV
14 For this reason I bow my knees to the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, 15 from whom the whole family in heaven and earth is named, 16 that He would grant you, according to the riches of His glory, to be strengthened with might through His Spirit in the inner man, 17 that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith; that you, being rooted and grounded in love, 18 may be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the width and length and depth and height— 19 to know the love of Christ which passes knowledge; that you may be filled with all the fullness of God.
[15] Hears and honors- when we call on God He always hears and responds to our needs and will be with us in times of trouble
Hebrews 4:14–16 NKJV
14 Seeing then that we have a great High Priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession. 15 For we do not have a High Priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but was in all points tempted as we are, yet without sin. 16 Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need.
1 John 5:14–15 NKJV
14 Now this is the confidence that we have in Him, that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us. 15 And if we know that He hears us, whatever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we have asked of Him.
Romans 10:11 NKJV
11 For the Scripture says, “Whoever believes on Him will not be put to shame.”
[16] Satisfied life- contentment in Christ
Proverbs 3:1–2 NKJV
1 My son, do not forget my law, But let your heart keep my commands; 2 For length of days and long life And peace they will add to you.
1 Timothy 6:6 NKJV
6 Now godliness with contentment is great gain.
Hebrews 13:5 NKJV
5 Let your conduct be without covetousness; be content with such things as you have. For He Himself has said, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.”
Turn with me to Psalm 19 and see the Works and Words of God.
Psalm 19:7–11 NKJV
7 The law of the Lord is perfect, converting the soul; The testimony of the Lord is sure, making wise the simple; 8 The statutes of the Lord are right, rejoicing the heart; The commandment of the Lord is pure, enlightening the eyes; 9 The fear of the Lord is clean, enduring forever; The judgments of the Lord are true and righteous altogether. 10 More to be desired are they than gold, Yea, than much fine gold; Sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb. 11 Moreover by them Your servant is warned, And in keeping them there is great reward.
Close: Claiming Complete Victory is to love God back the way He loves us. Unconditional, No strings attached!
“Victory in Jesus”
I heard an old, old story, how a Savior came from glory,
How He gave His life on Calvary, to save a wretch like me.
I heard about His groaning, of His precious blood’s atoning,
Then I repented of my sin and won the victory.
I heard about His healing, of His cleansing power revealing,
How He made the lame to walk again and caused the blind to see.
And then I cried dear Jesus, come and heal my broken spirit,
And somehow Jesus came and brought to me the victory.
I heard about a mansion He has built for me in glory,
And I heard about the streets of gold beyond the crystal sea;
About the angels singing, and the old redemption story,
And some sweet day I’ll sing up there the song of victory.
O victory in Jesus, my Savior forever!
He sought me and bought me with His redeeming blood;
He loved me ere I knew Him, and all my love is due Him.
He plunged me to victory beneath the cleansing flood.
