The question you may be asking yourself is did you know her name and forget, or did you ever know it!

The reason I’m asking is that in Peter’s second letter, he says we should ask it.

2 Peter 1: the first half of verse 10 states

Therefore, brethren, be all the more diligent to make certain about His calling and choosing you;

Let’s back up and see what the Therefore is there for.

2 Peter 1:1 NASB95

1 Simon Peter, a bond-servant and apostle of Jesus Christ, To those who have received a faith of the same kind as ours, by the righteousness of our God and Savior, Jesus Christ:

This is not an evangelical letter. It is to believers. It is written to those that call themselves Christians. If you are a believer in Our Lord Jesus Christ….It is to you.

You have all the tools. You have all the skills. In knowing Christ as Lord, you have been granted everything pertaining to life and godliness.

2 Peter 1:4 NASB95

4 For by these He has granted to us His precious and magnificent promises, so that by them you may become partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world by lust.

For by these: Power of life and Power of godliness.

How do we use the tools He gave us?

How do we use that power?

2 Peter 1:5–7 NASB95

5 Now for this very reason also, applying all diligence, in your faith supply moral excellence, and in your moral excellence, knowledge, 6 and in your knowledge, self-control, and in your self-control, perseverance, and in your perseverance, godliness, 7 and in your godliness, brotherly kindness, and in your brotherly kindness, love.

Faith: its the object of your faith, not the amount.

You supply:

Moral excellence: doing the right thing always and doing it well.

Knowledge: Learn the His Word and you will learn His Will. Never stop learning.

Self-Control: Exercise

Perseverance: When life hits back.

In Matthew 5 Jesus said,

godliness: reverence toward anything that requires reverence.

brotherly kindness: Philalo - goCompassion.

LOVE: Agape: Self sacrificing. The way that God Loves you.

Peter then says the most DAD thing in all of scripture:

8 For if these qualities are yours and are increasing, they render you neither useless nor unfruitful in the true knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Faith, moral excellence, knowledge, self-control, perseverance, godliness, brotherly kindness, love.

2 Peter 1:9 NASB95

9 For he who lacks these qualities is blind or short-sighted, having forgotten his purification from his former sins.

You have forgotten your salvation.

2 Peter 1:10–11 NASB95

10 Therefore, brethren, be all the more diligent to make certain about His calling and choosing you; for as long as you practice these things, you will never stumble; 11 for in this way the entrance into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ will be abundantly supplied to you.
