God’s Love, Our Eternal Joy
Text: Romans 5:6-11
Sermon Title: We Have Cause to Rejoice in God
Adverb: Why we rejoice in God?
Sermon Proposition: Believers rejoice in God because of the demonstration and application of His love in their lives
Aim: I want to persuade you this morning that the love of God demonstrated and applied to us through Christ’s death and resurrection is sufficient for our eternal joy!
Main Idea: God’s love is sufficient for our eternal joy!!!
I. Because of who we are, we need the love of God [Desperate Need]
a) We are weak –ungodly (morally) (v.6)
b) We are sinners (v.8)
c) We are enemies of God (v.10)
II. The death and resurrection of Christ demonstrates to us the love of God [Demonstrated Love]
a) Christ died for us –the ungodly (v.6)
b) No one dies for the righteous nor for the good (v.7)
III. God applies his love to us in the past, present, and future [Applied Love]
a) We are justified (v.9)
1) By his blood (v.9)
b) We are reconciled (v.10)
1) By his death (v.10)
c) We will be saved (v.9,10)
1) Saved from the wrath of God (v.9)
2) Saved by his life (v.10)
IV. Because of God’s love, we rejoice in God (v.11)
a) Through Jesus Christ
b) We have received reconciliation
1) Implication on conflict: Without this eternal joy rooted in the love of God, it is impossible to pursue reconciliation with others!
2) Implication on overcoming sin: without this eternal joy rooted in the love of God, it is impossible to overcome sin!
3) Implication on discipling: without this eternal joy rooted in the love of God, it is impossible to help others pursue and grow in their eternal joy
4) Implication on evangelism: without this eternal joy rooted in the love of God, it is impossible to pursue sinners who need to be reconciled with God!
