Draft:

Story or joke of being introduced to someone out of your league, or Team getting reprimanded for one person’s fault TBD.
What an amazing day. Today we will look at a very simple illustration that carries significant theological value. Value that I hope will inform and edify each of you as it has for me.
First we see the amazing arch of God’s perfect plan for salvation initiated at the very moment of disobedience, we can see the method by which God prepared the way for the gift of grace, and the ultimate fulfilment of God’s redemptive plan in the perfect life and obedience of the person of Jesus Christ. Peace with God is at hand, but not only peace but acceptance and glory eternally.
I hope our journey through Romans has been as exciting for you as it has been for me.
So far we have seen the Legal basis for God’s Judgment and wrath, in 1-3 and now we have begun to delve into the Good News of the means of Justification, so as we wrap up chapter 5 I hope we can receive this meaty theological concept and as we mull it over in our mind and comprehend it, I pray that it moves down to the heart providing a firm foundation and for all that comes after. Our Sanctification – forming into Christ likeness – as an out working and reciprocal work of thanksgiving for the depths of God’s love and kindness for each of us whom have received his undeserved favor and Reconciliation.

Scripture

6 For while we were still weak, at the right time Christ died for the ungodly. 7 For one will scarcely die for a righteous person—though perhaps for a good person one would dare even to die— 8 but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. 9 Since, therefore, we have now been justified by his blood, much more shall we be saved by him from the wrath of God. 10 For if while we were enemies we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, now that we are reconciled, shall we be saved by his life. 11 More than that, we also rejoice in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received reconciliation. ESV -
12 Therefore, just as sin came into the world through one man, and death through sin, and so death spread to all men because all sinned— 13 for sin indeed was in the world before the law was given, but sin is not counted where there is no law. 14 Yet death reigned from Adam to Moses, even over those whose sinning was not like the transgression of Adam, who was a type of the one who was to come.
15 But the free gift is not like the trespass. For if many died through one man’s trespass, much more have the grace of God and the free gift by the grace of that one man Jesus Christ abounded for many. 16 And the free gift is not like the result of that one man’s sin. For the judgment following one trespass brought condemnation, but the free gift following many trespasses brought justification. 17 For if, because of one man’s trespass, death reigned through that one man, much more will those who receive the abundance of grace and the free gift of righteousness reign in life through the one man Jesus Christ.
18 Therefore, as one trespass led to condemnation for all men, so one act of righteousness leads to justification and life for all men. 19 For as by the one man’s disobedience the many were made sinners, so by the one man’s obedience the many will be made righteous. 20 Now the law came in to increase the trespass, but where sin increased, grace abounded all the more, 21 so that, as sin reigned in death, grace also might reign through righteousness leading to eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. [2]

The Covenant of Works

15 And the Lord God took the man, and put him into the garden of Eden to dress it and to keep it. 16 And the Lord God commanded the man, saying, Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat: 17 But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.[3]

In the beginning God… Had a Plan.

From the moment the first man’s sin. God laid out a plan for the redemption of all mankind. This truth lies within our sin nature itself. Here we see “12 Therefore, just as sin came into the world through one man, and death through sin, and so death spread to all men because all sinned[4]”
Because all sinned? Again let us recount what we learned 2 weeks ago, we are not sinners because we sin, rather we sin because we are sinners. Adam’s sin nature was imputed to all future generations, his very nature at that time was corrupted and so that of the world in which we live, and we inherited this corrupted nature, being under the reign and control of that sin nature. The natural man is slave to his master, lucifer and as such is a devour of good, and a bringer of death. He does not desire God rather is an enemy of God. This is evident in that death and evil have been given dominion in our age, all is under the influence of sin.
Secondly, we all Do sin, we are held accountable for that sin in whatever our understanding of God’s reveled character either under General Revelation, or under the law. As we saw in Romans 2.
Paul says “ 13 for sin indeed was in the world before the law was given, but sin is not counted where there is no law. 14 Yet death reigned from Adam to Moses,[5]”
For those who would receive or believe in faith. We see this Abraham, before the law God counted it as righteousness that he believed looking ahead to the messiah.
The Covenant of Works – God demands Righteousness yet man cannot meet that standard due to his sin nature and propensity to sin.
Adam is the source of Sin
1) Sin entered into the world through his one act of disobedience, evident in the fact that we who are spiritual beings created to live with God everlasting, die.
2) He is the Covenant Maker with God. Or the Head of all Mankind. And thus his sin nature is passed down or indirectly imputed onto every generation.
Adam is a Type or Figure of Jesus. – Adam is a picture of Jesus not in a positive way but in as the antithesis, He shares attributes such as the first of his kind, second, the Federal head of a covenant with God.
The comparison - Through the “one” sin, sin compounded resulting in the reign of death. Through “one” Act of righteousness life (eternal) reigns. This one act of obedience. Jesus the propitiation – the carrying away of our sin, or forgiveness of sin. We now have neutral standing. By faith in the workof Jesus Christ.
Let me ask you this. How are we Justified? - We are Justified by works. Hear me. By what means is God’s Wrath, is perfect justice, satisfied? We are justified by works, but who’s works? You by yours? Me by mine? By The Pope? Joseph Smith? NO! the perfect work and blood of Jesus Christ! We are saved, no longer enemies of God, through Faith IN the blood and work of Jesus Christ.
Lord Jesus please by your spirit let this land, let us acknowledge the basis of our salvation, let us grasp the depth of your sacrifice and rejoice in you!
My friends, this good news?! You haven’t heard the half of if it!
God not only forgives our sin, He Impunes Jesus Righteousness upon us.
Jesus died the death we deserve, but he also lived the life we could not live! We are not only neutral with God but through faith in Jesus God does not see us as a neutral party, but we are given Christ standing. We are sons and daughters. We are accepted as Christ himself into the presence of God and will reign with him in eternity. Not because we earned it because he did on our behalf for his glory.
The Law increased sin, and our awareness of it. – God revealed his character in the law and the law then made us more aware of our fallenness, but where sin abounded Grace abounded all the more. Jesus one act of righteousness his perfect obedience unto death on the cross, does not only provide forgiveness for sins that have been committed, but it covers us from all sin. He took on the sin of the world, not just the sin of the believer. The gift of grace is available to all who would seek it.
Imagine this, last weekend as the thunder was rumbling a bolt lightning had struck the hills right outside of town. Think of that as the Adam’s disobedience to God in the Garden. The wind is blowing and the undergrowth is dry. Think of this as the fallen nature of man. A fire that started in a single point now spreads in all directions. Flames quickly engulf large pines and fire spreads from tree to tree, what was just a few acres is now doubling, and doubling again. It is now hundreds of thousands of acres. This is the generational sin of man. Fire is overtaking Grant’s Pass We will surely die burnt to death. God’s Grace is like a Tsunami a mile high overtaking the land and fire. It is unstoppable, it consumes every bit of that fire
1Co1 27 But God chose what is foolish in the world to shame the wise; God chose what is weak in the world to shame the strong; 28 God chose what is low and despised in the world, even things that are not, to bring to nothing things that are, 29 so that no human being might boast in the presence of God. 30 And because of him you are in Christ Jesus, who became to us wisdom from God, righteousness and sanctification and redemption, 31 so that, as it is written, “Let the one who boasts, boast in the Lord.”[6]
Eph2 And you were dead in the trespasses and sins 2 in which you once walked, following the course of this world, following the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that is now at work in the sons of disobedience— 3 among whom we all once lived in the passions of our flesh, carrying out the desires of the body and the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, like the rest of mankind. 4 But God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which he loved us, 5 even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ—by grace you have been saved— 6 and raised us up with him and seated us with him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, 7 so that in the coming ages he might show the immeasurable riches of his grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus. 8 For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, 9 not a result of works, so that no one may boast. 10 For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus [7]
