Welcome
Welcome
Good Morning Church
Thank you Tim for leading Worship this morning
Please open your bibles to John 10 as we will pick up again where we left off last week
Last week we learned just how Jesus as the Good Shepherd
Gathers his sheep
Guards his sheep
and gave his life for his sheep
All that in the face of the false teachers
or false shepherds as we called them
And this morning, for the last time for a while
we will see one last exchange between the pharisees
and Jesus
As this very spot puts us at exactly the mid point of Johns Gospel
Johns gospel has 21 chapters
and here we are at chapter 10.5
and again as I mentioned last week these very verses
we are covering this morning mark the end of Jesus’
public ministry
As the 1st half of Johns Gospel covers almost 3 years of ministry by Jesus
In which as we have faithfully walked through verse by verse
we have seen Jesus travel the length and breadth of Israel
We have saw
John the Baptist announces Jesus as the Lamb of God in Chapter 1 (John 1:29, 36).
In chapter 2, Jesus, the Lamb of God, drove animals of sacrifice out of the temple; foreshadowing the fact that he will replace them.
In chapter 3, Jesus speaks with Nicodemus about the new birth (cf. Ezek. 36:25–27).
In John 4, Jesus offers living water, is recognized as Messiah and Savior of the world, and heals the sick.
In chapter 5, the lame walk.
In chapter 6, the multitude is fed,
the water crossed,
the mountain ascended.
As Jesus reveals that he is the bread of life
In chapter 7, Jesus asserts that he is the fulfillment of the rock from which the water flowed,
but he gives something better than water: the Holy Spirit.
In chapter 8, Jesus is the pillar of fire,
or the Light of the World.
In chapter 9, the blind see.
And in the beginning of Chapter 10 Jesus is the Good Shepard
all of which that we have covered thus far confirmed who he was and is
The messiah,
savior of the world
the lamb of God
The Son of God
The Christ
Now, 3 months have passed between where we left off last week and this week
3 months give or take between V 21 and 22
and now there is only 3 months until Jesus trial and crucifixion
So as we read this mornings text
At the end of this chapter we will see Jesus go away for probably
Let us reflect on all that we have learned throughout this first half of John’s gospel
And see just how blind the Pharisee’s really are
Please stand as we publically read the word of God
22 Then the Festival of Dedication took place in Jerusalem, and it was winter. 23 Jesus was walking in the temple in Solomon’s Colonnade. 24 The Jews surrounded him and asked, “How long are you going to keep us in suspense? If you are the Messiah, tell us plainly.”
25 “I did tell you and you don’t believe,” Jesus answered them. “The works that I do in my Father’s name testify about me. 26 But you don’t believe because you are not of my sheep. 27 My sheep hear my voice, I know them, and they follow me. 28 I give them eternal life, and they will never perish. No one will snatch them out of my hand. 29 My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all. No one is able to snatch them out of the Father’s hand. 30 I and the Father are one.”
31 Again the Jews picked up rocks to stone him.
32 Jesus replied, “I have shown you many good works from the Father. For which of these works are you stoning me?”
33 “We aren’t stoning you for a good work,” the Jews answered, “but for blasphemy, because you—being a man—make yourself God.”
34 Jesus answered them, “Isn’t it written in your law, I said, you are gods? 35 If he called those to whom the word of God came ‘gods’—and the Scripture cannot be broken—36 do you say, ‘You are blaspheming’ to the one the Father set apart and sent into the world, because I said: I am the Son of God? 37 If I am not doing my Father’s works, don’t believe me. 38 But if I am doing them and you don’t believe me, believe the works. This way you will know and understand that the Father is in me and I in the Father.” 39 Then they were trying again to seize him, but he escaped their grasp.
40 So he departed again across the Jordan to the place where John had been baptizing earlier, and he remained there. 41 Many came to him and said, “John never did a sign, but everything John said about this man was true.” 42 And many believed in him there.

To Be, or not to Be,
that is the question….
Or is it?
This famous statement from Williams Shaksespear
