This morning I had been preparing for Romans 9 and I had been reading and reading trying to get ready
But I felt like we needed to take a break from Romans
And so here we are
This morning I wanted to take sometime to remind you of some truths
The Bible is True and good
2 Timothy 3:16–17 NASB95
16 All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness; 17 so that the man of God may be adequate, equipped for every good work.
When Paul writes this to remind and encourage Timothy
It is the same reminder and same encouragement for us
It is a reminder then in a world where if it is not on video it didn’t happen
This was written down and church the Bible is still very much true
Just because you disagree with it doesn’t make it any less true
It was a reminder to Timothy that all of scripture is God breathed
To us this morning to know that what we read that should dictate how we live our lives is still very much true and that God breathed it all
Was it written by humans physically yes
Did God ordain them, and give them what to write yes
Can we see and test these things throughout scripture yes
Do we understand how everything was created
Yes and no
It says God spoke it
Do we or can our finite mind understand creation
No and if we could it wouldn’t be Godly right
It also reminds us that Gods Word is good and useful
It helps us and sometimes helping you and loving you is telling you what you have been doing is wrong
That you shouldn’t be doing that
Its not a list of rules of does and don’ts but more a how to live your life running after Jesus
And church reading Gods word in its entirety is so very very good
How many of you read Gods word everyday
How many of you have read the Word all the way through at least once
Now that you know
Just like that was a reminder maybe this morning is another reminder
Incase you have forgotten who you are as a believer
Who You are as a Believer in Jesus
Galatians 3:26–27 NASB95
26 For you are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus. 27 For all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ.
As a believer in Jesus you are a son and daughter of God
The most high King
And church just how do you think God treats his own sons and daughters
How do you treat your own
Matthew 7:11 NASB95
11 “If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give what is good to those who ask Him!
If you treat your sons and daughters good and give them good gifts
All the while you are not so good
But if Christ is good how much better will He treat His own sons and daughters
To know that the God of the universe holds you and uses you for His glory
To know that you are a son or daughter of the most high king
And as a son or daughter
You need to know this
Romans 8:37–39 NASB95
37 But in all these things we overwhelmingly conquer through Him who loved us. 38 For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, 39 nor height, nor depth, nor any other created thing, will be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
With Christ you can and will conquer the things of this world
And to know that nothing will take you out of Gods hand
Church praise the Lord for the truth from Gods word
That we so often forget
One that I forget or have forgotten and often times need reminding of
Isaiah 41:10–13 NASB95
10 ‘Do not fear, for I am with you; Do not anxiously look about you, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, surely I will help you, Surely I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.’ 11 “Behold, all those who are angered at you will be shamed and dishonored; Those who contend with you will be as nothing and will perish. 12 “You will seek those who quarrel with you, but will not find them, Those who war with you will be as nothing and non-existent. 13 “For I am the Lord your God, who upholds your right hand, Who says to you, ‘Do not fear, I will help you.’
Church need we say anymore
To know that the Lord is our helper
Is our strength
That the Lord holds us
And church when we know the Lord holds us we don’t have to worry or look anxiously about this world
So what do we do with all of this
What you should be doing
Walking with Jesus
Great commission
How do we accomplish this
Well church we do the disciplines
Reading your Bible
Matthew 4:4 NASB95
4 But He answered and said, “It is written, ‘Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that proceeds out of the mouth of God.’ ”
Church we are to be reading our Bible
We can’t expect to know what God has for us to do in this life or how to live in this life without reading the manual
When things come up we often look every where else for the answer except for The Word of God
You cannot expect to go through this life as a believer and grow with Christ without reading your Bible
Church you must be reading your Bible
Also be praying
Mark 1:35 NASB95
35 In the early morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house, and went away to a secluded place, and was praying there.
If Jesus is our example
Then just like reading our Bible we can’t expect to know God without spending time with Him in prayer
And I know we like to think oh I pray
And I pray at meals
Church thats a start but that is like saying I only read my Bible on Sunday and Wednesdays
Church we are to always be praying
1 Thessalonians 5:17 NASB95
17 pray without ceasing;
We are to pray without ceasing
We are to pray by ourselves
We are to pray as a church
We are to pray as families
That is how we teach our kids to be the next generation of prayer warriors is by praying with them early and modeling them how to pray
Church we are meeting to pray Thursday would yo join us
Would you make gathering together as a Body of Christ to cry out to God together as a priority
Then Church
Church we are to be giving as believers in Jesus Christ
We give of our time, our resources, our energy, our talents
And yes that also means of our monies
Genesis 4:3–4 NASB95
3 So it came about in the course of time that Cain brought an offering to the Lord of the fruit of the ground. 4 Abel, on his part also brought of the firstlings of his flock and of their fat portions. And the Lord had regard for Abel and for his offering;
Church from the very beginning we are to be giving of what we earn or produce
When we with hold that it becomes a problem
Church we are to be giving
You want to know what your giving goes to Vonda gives us a budget report at the Business Meeting and then I think every other month she prints off the numbers
They are there for you to see
When you give it allows us to things and church some of those things we are doing is sending Kids to camp
It is giving to Mike and Tish
It is giving to Christian Challenge
Church it is even planting a church in Holton KS
When we send those people out to go up there
Their giving goes with them
2 Corinthians 9:6 NASB95
6 Now this I say, he who sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and he who sows bountifully will also reap bountifully.
Church we are to be giving generously
When we give small we reap small
When we give big we reap big
Church I have seen it and I know this church has seen it
We are to be cheerful and generous in our giving
Then church we are to be serving
In some of that giving is of our talents, of our resources, of our gifts that God has so graciously gifts us with
Church we are to be serving
1 Corinthians 12:18–20 NASB95
18 But now God has placed the members, each one of them, in the body, just as He desired. 19 If they were all one member, where would the body be? 20 But now there are many members, but one body.
Church we need to filling in and helping out
We need to be answering the call of God
We have many different ministries
We work with the kids
We have Sunday School classes
We have service ministries
And church maybe you don’t
But we need Sunday School Teachers
It is a necessary thing when you send out people to plant a church
Don’t sit there and think of someone else will do it
Be praying and who knows maybe God is calling you to teach that Sunday School
We may come and ask you to help out
Church we need to be serving
And using the gifts God has giving us
When we do that we experience closeness with God that is amazing
This morning church maybe you needed to hear this morning
You need to be serving, it no longer ok to show up and sit you want to and need to be part of the work Christ is doing here
You need to be giving, maybe for a while you have not been giving and this morning it is a reminder that I need to be giving, and maybe I need to be giving a little more
You need to be praying, maybe your prayers have just been enough or in transition, praying is going into the presence of God and spending time talking about what is going on in your life with the God of the universe!
You need to be reading your Bible, how can you know what God says without reading Gods letter to us
You are a son or daughter of the most High King
And as such The God of the universe holds you by His righteous Right Hand
So as the band comes up
Dwell on those things
I am going to ask you to respond accordingly
Maybe its a decision
Maybe its in prayer
Maybe it is to talk with someone
The alter is open
