Who would you rather be?
Tesla is a very well known company that is projected to bring in $21B in 2024.
Who would you rather be?
Elon Musk - the CEO or Tesla
…or one of the Tesla factory workers?
Many of us might say that we wold much rather be Elon Musk because after all he is a billionaire…and the Tesla factory worker is probably not a millionaire.
However, what does Elon Musk and a Tesla factory worker have in common?
They both have the responsibility of serving Tesla customers.
Elon Musk serves Tesla customers by ensuring he makes good decisions so the company will exist for many years to come.
Tesla factory workers are responsible for ensuring we well-made and safe electric vehicle.
At the end of the day…they are both in the business of serving people.
What is a servant?
One of the definitions of servant is someone that serves.
When we hear of servant we probably imagine a butler or a housekeeper working in a rich person’s home cleaning after the owners.
However, a servant is simply someone that serves.
A lawyer serves people by offering legal advice.
A chef serves people by coming up with delicious food.
A physician serves people by diagnosing and prescribing the right treatment.
In fact, who is the greatest being you can think of?
The greatest, most powerful, most perfect, most loving, most most holy being there is - God!
Did you know that God is a servant?
Jesus, who is God in the flesh said:
Mateo 20:28 (NIV)
28 just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.”
Jesus is the Son of Man…and he came not so people could serve him.
He came so that he could serve humanity.
How did he serve humanity? - he gave his life for them on the cross so that they may be forgiven.
This is the reason, why we, as followers of Jesus, believe that the greatest thing we can do for others is to serve one another.
When we as someone if we can pray for them.
…when we ask someone how they are doing and wait for them to answer honestly.
…when we sit by someone who is sitting by themselves and seems like they have no friends.
…when we visit someone who is sick in the hospital.
…when we share the message of the hope that we have in Jesus Christ.
…when we give of our finances to fund missionaries who preach the gospel in dangerous parts of the world.
…when we invite others for a meal at our home.
…in each of these actions and many more we are serving others.
Now…we serve others not because by this we will go to heaven.
We believe we are saved by what Jesus did on the cross.
We serve others because it is the example that Jesus gave to us - and as his disciples we believe that it is our privilege to serve others.
Let’s pray:
Our father, teach us to understand what it means to truly serve others. Help us understand and find creative ways that these young people can serve others, how they can serve their parents, their siblings, their friends. Help us understand that by serving others…we are serving Jesus who taught us what it means to serve others - such that he sacrificed his life for many. Amen.
