Intro: As we look at the character attributes that Christ shares about Himself with the church of Thyatira today, I want to remind us that these are not random… They are exactly what this church needed and what these churches needed during this church age period.
These attributes accomplished two major needs:
They encouraged the believers in Who Christ was!
They refuted false teaching!
Read: Revelation 1:12-20, Daniel 10:1-10.
Character:
Quick Recap:
Ephesus: Revelation 2:1“Unto the angel of the church of Ephesus write; These things saith he that holdeth the seven stars in his right hand, who walketh in the midst of the seven golden candlesticks;”
Issues: False teachers, the deeds of the Nicolaitanes, and leaving their first love.
Smyrna: Revelation 2:8 “And unto the angel of the church in Smyrna write; These things saith the first and the last, which was dead, and is alive;”
Issues: Replacement theology, first mention of the synagogue of Satan, along with immense tribulation and persecution.
Pergamos: Revelation 2:12 “And to the angel of the church in Pergamos write; These things saith he which hath the sharp sword with two edges;”
Issues: Satan’s seat, where Satan dwelleth, holding the doctrine of Balaam, eating things sacrificed unto idols, committing fornication, the doctrine of the Nicolaitanes, and persecution through Satan’s new authoritative power brought through the “church and states” unholy union.
Thyatira: (Rev. 2:18 “And unto the angel of the church in Thyatira write; These things saith the Son of God, who hath his eyes like unto a flame of fire, and his feet are like fine brass;”)
We will study all the issues in later lessons...
I want us to see what Christ says, because this is the period that we see historically, ______________ become a prominent figure in the Roman Papal system. It is in this period of 500-1000 A.D. that we see Mary called the “Queen of Heaven” and “The Mother of God”.
Notice what Christ says, “These things saith the ___________________________________!
With all of the attempts to rob Christ of His deity, may this be the reminder that the whole world needs to hear…
Revelation 1:14–15 KJV 1900
His head and his hairs were white like wool, as white as snow; and his eyes were as a flame of fire; And his feet like unto fine brass, as if they burned in a furnace; and his voice as the sound of many waters.
Most of the world today know the Jesus that is a babe in a manger, or they know the one that has been made feminine with long flowing locks of golden hair and baby blue eyes, the one that know one could imagine sweating drops of blood and bearing our sin and shame… They only see Jesus as meek and lowly, a “good” example for mankind. No different then Gandhi, or whoever else they want to plug in there.
They know nothing of the glorified Saviour.
Mark 13:26 KJV 1900
And then shall they see the Son of man coming in the clouds with great power and glory.
The Saviour that is risen, glorified, the Lion of Judah Who’s eyes are as a flame of fire, and feet like unto fine brass.
No one wants to know that Jesus, because when a sinner gets to know that Jesus, those eyes of Judgment are like x-ray that pierces the most inner depths of the soul, exposing every secret sin.
Like it or not… the same Jesus that came in meekness, and humility, the same Jesus that came to seek and to save that which was lost, is coming again, but this time in judgment...
Revelation 19:11–12 KJV 1900
And I saw heaven opened, and behold a white horse; and he that sat upon him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he doth judge and make war. His eyes were as a flame of fire, and on his head were many crowns; and he had a name written, that no man knew, but he himself.
Revelation 19:16 KJV 1900
And he hath on his vesture and on his thigh a name written, KING OF KINGS, AND LORD OF LORDS.
Those eyes… but what about those feel of righteousness, that are as though they had been through a furnace?
Revelation 19:15 KJV 1900
And out of his mouth goeth a sharp sword, that with it he should smite the nations: and he shall rule them with a rod of iron: and he treadeth the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God.
Revelation 14:20 KJV 1900
And the winepress was trodden without the city, and blood came out of the winepress, even unto the horse bridles, by the space of a thousand and six hundred furlongs.
God is giving us a very graphic picture of what that day will look like… It was in the winepress, that grapes would be crushed under the foot of the man that treaded upon them. So it will be, when Christ with His feet of righteousness, shall tread the winepress of men in judgment.
Isaiah 63:1 KJV 1900
Who is this that cometh from Edom, With dyed garments from Bozrah? This that is glorious in his apparel, Travelling in the greatness of his strength? I that speak in righteousness, mighty to save.
Edom is the place that the nation of Israel will be during the tribulation. Bozrah, is in Edom along the King’s Highway and it is no coincidence that this is the exact same route that Joshua led the nation of Israel out of the wilderness into their conquest of the Promise Land.
He will come with His garments dyed… Who’s blood? ____________________________
Revelation 19:13 KJV 1900
And he was clothed with a vesture dipped in blood: and his name is called The Word of God.
Isaiah 63:2–3 KJV 1900
Wherefore art thou red in thine apparel, And thy garments like him that treadeth in the winefat? I have trodden the winepress alone; And of the people there was none with me: For I will tread them in mine anger, And trample them in my fury; And their blood shall be sprinkled upon my garments, And I will stain all my raiment.
This isn’t the Jesus of the 21st century. He can’t be because He isn’t the top seller of books, He doesn't sell inspiration note cards and He doesn’t fill churches, so they change passages like this make them seem less violent, or they make them figurative rather than literal. Sadly, they will all be in for a very literal awakening when that day is upon them...
Isaiah 63:4 KJV 1900
For the day of vengeance is in mine heart, And the year of my redeemed is come.
Yeah, but that is Old Testament...
2 Thessalonians 1:7–10 KJV 1900
And to you who are troubled rest with us, when the Lord Jesus shall be revealed from heaven with his mighty angels, In flaming fire taking vengeance on them that know not God, and that obey not the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ: Who shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord, and from the glory of his power; When he shall come to be glorified in his saints, and to be admired in all them that believe (because our testimony among you was believed) in that day.
Closing: For over 2000 years, the name of Jesus Christ has been mocked, ridiculed, scorned, reproached, spat upon, trampled on by men, and blasphemed. For 2000 years, those willing to stand and proclaim that glorious name have been tortured, lied about, accused, had their tongues cut out and have been put to death and for over 2000 years, God’s redeemed have longed for the day that both Jesus and Satan get what they deserve! Jesus Christ finally getting all of the glory that He deserves, and Satan having his head crushed under those feet of righteousness.
Revelation 20:3 KJV 1900
And cast him into the bottomless pit, and shut him up, and set a seal upon him, that he should deceive the nations no more, till the thousand years should be fulfilled: and after that he must be loosed a little season.
Everyone who has rejected Christ, also gets what they deserve… 2 Thess. 1:7-10
The only ones that don’t get what they deserve at the second coming of Christ, are those that are redeemed of HIM!
Isaiah 63:6 KJV 1900
And I will tread down the people in mine anger, And make them drunk in my fury, And I will bring down their strength to the earth.
No more meek and lowly lamb...
Jeremiah 25:30 KJV 1900
Therefore prophesy thou against them all these words, and say unto them, The Lord shall roar from on high, And utter his voice from his holy habitation; He shall mightily roar upon his habitation; He shall give a shout, as they that tread the grapes, Against all the inhabitants of the earth.
I know we don’t like the hellfire and brimstone stuff… But the most positive message anyone could hear is the one that puts the fear of God down into their soul, so that they would humble themselves and obey the gospel of God.
Acts 17:30 KJV 1900
And the times of this ignorance God winked at; but now commandeth all men every where to repent:
That is why the work of the Holy Spirit is to...
John 16:8 KJV 1900
And when he is come, he will reprove the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment:
Revelation 2:18 KJV 1900
And unto the angel of the church in Thyatira write; These things saith the Son of God, who hath his eyes like unto a flame of fire, and his feet are like fine brass;
That is the Jesus of the church of Thyatira… That is our Jesus! Let us rise to the occasion and serve Him with all of our heart, soul and mind!
