Psalm 34:15-22 / Joshua 24:1-15
Of gods and lords
Of gods and lords
Anything I put before my God is an idol
Anything I want with all my heart is an idol
Anything I can't stop thinking of is an idol
Anything that I give all my love is an idol
We must not worship
Something that's not even worth it
Clear the stage
Make some space
For the One who deserves it
Bridge of Clear The Stage - Ross Sullivan King
gods - whatever takes your worship away from the True God
lords - anything that you feel you must follow, even against or over Christ Jesus
The Old gods
The Old gods
Your past, your addictions, your slavery
Your past, your addictions, your slavery
The heritage from which you came
The heritage from which you came
The way they used to do and how I’ve heard it
The way they used to do and how I’ve heard it
The new gods
The new gods
They are prevalent
They are prevalent
They are cool
They are cool
because they are designed to be, to draw you away from true allegiance and worship of God
They are easy (seeming)
They are easy (seeming)
because most people will help you justify and follow them
Extracurriculars with a Christian flare
Extracurriculars with a Christian flare
What better to draw away a Christian, than to make it look like the Christian thing to do?
The False Claim
The False Claim
Exodus 32:4–6 “4 And he received the gold from their hand and fashioned it with a graving tool and made a golden calf. And they said, “These are your gods, O Israel, who brought you up out of the land of Egypt!” 5 When Aaron saw this, he built an altar before it. And Aaron made a proclamation and said, “Tomorrow shall be a feast to the Lord.” 6 And they rose up early the next day and offered burnt offerings and brought peace offerings. And the people sat down to eat and drink and rose up to play.”
Does it take you away from daily scripture reading and prayer?
Does it take you away from regular church attendance?
Does it take you away from the lives of fellow church members?
Clear the stage and set the sound and lights ablaze
If that's the measure you must take to crush the idols
Jerk the pews and all the decorations too
Until the congregations few then have revival
Tell your friends that this is where the party ends
Until you're broken for your sins you can't be social
Then seek the Lord and wait for what He has in store
And know that great is your reward so just be hopeful
'Cause you can sing all you want to
Yes, you can sing all you want to
You can sing all you want to
And still get it wrong, oh worship is more than a song

The daily choice
The daily choice
Joshua 24:14–15 “14 “Now therefore fear the Lord and serve him in sincerity and in faithfulness. Put away the gods that your fathers served beyond the River and in Egypt, and serve the Lord. 15 And if it is evil in your eyes to serve the Lord, choose this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your fathers served in the region beyond the River, or the gods of the Amorites in whose land you dwell. But as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.””
Joshua 24:21–23 “21 And the people said to Joshua, “No, but we will serve the Lord.” 22 Then Joshua said to the people, “You are witnesses against yourselves that you have chosen the Lord, to serve him.” And they said, “We are witnesses.” 23 He said, “Then put away the foreign gods that are among you, and incline your heart to the Lord, the God of Israel.””
Church Family, it is a daily choice we must make as to whom we will serve. Let it be said of us and our houses that we will serve the Lord!
