1. They care for the exterior.

The priests in the Old Testament, must wash their hands before offering sacrifices, Exodus 30, 17, as a signal the moral purity that of the priest should haven when approach to God.
And we keep this ritual, the priest washes their hands, a symbol of the purity that he should have to offer the true sacrifice, but the priest knows that this is sing that washes the exterior, but for the interior, he should have first purified his heart with the sacrament of confession.
But on the Old Testament the Parishes extend this to all, focusing only in the exterior but not in the interior.

2. From the human heart.

But Jesus came with a new light, to show them what really matters, the heart, the interior of the person is a Biblical word to say the will of the human being.

3. The mordent Pharisees

In the present times we have also a modern Pharisees:
1. When people are so worried about the external, but do not care about the interior.
Blessed Carlo did not understand why people were so worried about the beauty of their bodies, torturing and exhausting themselves in order to improve them, but did not pay any attention to the beauty of their souls. In his eyes, this incongruence was too great.

1. And when we believe that by some external actions, we are better than the others persons.

And this happen because we put too much attention in the things that others can see, but not on the things that only God knows.
Brothers the Gospel of today is telling put the focus in your interior life, in your reflections, in your affections, in the things that only God can see.
Be chaste in your thoughts, do not feel proud of your works, be mercifully in the way that you see and judge others.
Present to God a clean heart washed by your compassion, by the mercy to your brothers.
