Boast in the Lord …

1 Corinthians 1:31 ESV-CE
so that, as it is written, “Let the one who boasts, boast in the Lord.”
1 Corinthians 1:18 ESV-CE
For the word of the cross is folly to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.
In other words,
our usual thinking about power, wisdom, weakness and strength
are all turned upside down.
Isaiah 55:8 ESV-CE
For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, declares the Lord.
Isaiah 55:9 ESV-CE
For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.

The “upside-down”

Netflix Series, “Stranger Things”

Not a bad metaphor for the power of evil
and what can overcome it
It’s not the “all-powerful’ corporation that unleashed it;
not the government, national or local law enforcement;
not the “adults” in the town;
it’s the children.
Our Salvation Was Achieved
Not by a triumphant Christ at the head of an army
but but Christ who submitted to death
and, in this way, overcame death.

The Divine Synaxis

of Saint John Chrysostom
“Christ is risen from the dead and, by his death, he has trampled upon death, and has given life to those who were in the tomb.”
