Your testimonies are wonderful; Therefore my soul complies with them. The unfolding of Your words gives light; It gives understanding to the simple. I opened my mouth wide and panted, For I longed for Your commandments. Turn to me and be gracious to me, As is right for those who love Your name. Establish my footsteps in Your word, And do not let any wrongdoing have power over me. Redeem me from oppression by man, So that I may keep Your precepts. Over the Next 22 days we will be taking a deep dive into Ps 119. Author

All of The authors of the Psalms are unknown, we know that Moses wrote (13), Aaron wrote (4) David (73), Solomon (2), the sons of Korah (11, including one to which the name of Heman is also attached), Asaph (12), and Ethan (1) it is possible that others also wrote some of the Psalms, as well!!!!

The Author and date of this Psalms is unknown. Older commentators almost universally say it is a Psalm of David, composed throughout his entire life. More modern commentators often say that it is post-exilic, coming from the days of Nehemiah or Ezra. We lean towards agreement with the older commentators, but do not insist upon it; if it were important, God would have preserved the name of David to this Psalm. No matter who wrote it, we notice that it was likely written over some period of time and later compiled, because there is not a definite flow of thought from the beginning of the Psalm to the end. The sections and verses are not like a chain, where one link is connected to the other, but like a string of pearls were each pearl has equal, but independent value.

Date

The date of the Psalms covers from the Exodus, roughly 1300 BC through the return of the exiles, 586ish some 800 years.

The Psalms, are songs, poems and hymns to praise and honor YHWH!!!!

The structure of this Psalms is hugely important to the over all understanding of the Psalms. The Psalms is arranged, "in an acrostic (alphabetical) arrangement. In each paragraph (strophe) of eight verses each line begins with the same letter of the Hebrew alphabet. (The 22 strophe correspond to the 22 letters of the alphabet.) So Psa_119:1-8 each begin with the first Hebrew letter, Psa_119:9-16 each begin with the second letter, and so on," As Walvoord and Zuck inform us in the Bible Knowledge Commentary. The fact that the author used the Hebrew Alphabet to form the bases of the Psalms is a strong indication that the Word of God is going to be the focus of the Psalms. Which should be our focus as well. We should always be focusing on God's Word, that we come to a more deeper, more mature relationship with God.

Theology/Purpose

The Theology of the Psalms is to declare YHWH as Lord God almighty. That we need to trust in the ways of YHWH and not man, 2 Ki 18:1-37, 2 Mac 8:18-20, 2 Mac 15:1-39, Psa 37:3, Psa 56:4, Psa 118:8-9, Prov 3:5-6, Mat 19:26, Mark 9:23, Luk 1:37!!!!

The over all purpose of Ps 119 is to teach YHWH the Church, YHWH Qahal, Ecclesia, Rom 8:9-10, Rom 12:1-8, 1 Co 3:16, 1 Co 6:12-20, 1 Co 12:1-31 that the Word of YHWH is more precious then Gold and Silver. That we must spend time in the Word Daily, we must memorize God's Word, in order for His Truth to be revealed in our Hearts.

I Long for Your Words Ps 119:129-131:   I love how David is panting for God's Word (Jesus Christ Joh_1:1-3) and knows and believes that it is the Holy Spirit that will fill us with God's Word and Guide us in God's Word Exo_31:3, Col_2:1-5, 2Pe_3:18. Notice, if you will, how this pericope is three verses long pointing us to the Holy Spirit as our guide that helps us to understand God's Word. Joh_14:15-31. This is such a powerful opening that points the church to salvation through Christ Jesus' death and resurrection. That we can not receive the Holy Spirit full baptism of the Holy Spirit until we have received salvation in Christ then and only then can we receive the baptism of the Holy Spirit. Act_2:1-47. It also clearly points us to the understanding that is it Holy Spirit that prepares our hearts to receive God's Love for us. Just as John the Baptist prepared the ways for Christ Jesus, Joh_1:1-34. We must have the Holy Spirit guiding us and preparing us to receive God's Love for us, then we must have the communion of the Holy Spirit to guide and direct us in responding to God's Love for us by repenting 1Jn_1:9 of our sins and sharing God's Love with all, Mat_22:39-40, 1Jn_4:20-21 2Co_3:18, 2Co_13:14. So much Theology packed into three verses, is this not beautiful and powerful? I love, love, love it.

Teach Me Your Words Psa 119:132-135 :   David gets back to a familiar theme of David's asking God to fill, teach and mold him in God's Word, Psa_25:4,Psa_51:13, Psa_119:26. David wants God to look upon him favorable because David Loves God with all his heart, soul, and mind, Deu_6:4-5, Exo_20:1-10, Mat_22:37, as we all should. That when we do love God we will walk in God's foot steps because we love Him, Joh_14:15. We do not obey out of fear of punishment, we obey God because we love God! Next, David asks God to redeem him of his sins, that he keeps God love and lives God's Love, Mat_7:12. This is what each of us should be seeking and living daily. We should love one another just as Christ loves us, Rev_1:5, Gal_2:20, Eph_5:2, Eph_5:25, 2Th_2:16. We must walk this love daily and demonstrate our love of God and Neighbor, Jas_2:1-26.

Jesus Cries for Us to Keep God's Words Ps 119:136 : In this final Pericope we see Christ on the Cross, crying for all humanity, just as Jesus was crying in the Garden of Gethsemane, Mat_26:36-46, Mar_14:32-42, Luk_22:39-46. Christ is crying and sweating blood for all humanity to be cleansed in His blood. That we all will be redeemed by his blood. we are cleansed by Christ and Christ alone. Isa_53:1-12, Christ washes away all sin with His declaration on the Cross, "Father forgive them for they know not what they do," Luk_23:34. Jesus final words frees us of all our sins that we do not know we have commited, the sins that we knowingly and willing commit, and the sins that we knowingly and willingly commit and then try to deny them or cover them up and lie about them. Like Cain did about Abel Gen_4:1-26, or David in Uriah 2Sa_11:1-26, 2Sa_12:1-14! Jesus weeps tears of blood for each of us as we all will sin and fall short of the glory of God, Rom_3:23 but we are redeemed by the blood of Jesus Christ, Rom_5:8, 1Jn_1:7, Rom_6:23. Salvation is found in the Precious Blood of Jesus Christ Amen!!! 

Application

YHWH, I lay at the foot of the cross this morning to repent of my sins and to lay my sins at Your feet, that I may learn to love as You Lord love me that I may share that love with all of the World that all repent of their sins and receive Theophilus for all eternity. In YHWH Yeshua Holy and Precious name I pray and I claim this petition Amen Amen Amen Amen !!!!

Conclusion

Strophe (17), Pericope (17) Pe פַּ, teaches all to walk in the ways of YHWH, Heb 13:15-21, Jas 3:1-18, 1 Pe 1:13-25, 1 Pe 3:1-22, 1 Jn 1:6-10, which is THEOPHILUS, GOD'S LOVE, Deut 10:18-19, Deut 11:1-32, Deut 13:3, 1 Sa 18:1-5, 2 Sam 9:1-13, that you do not sin, Ps 119:25-32, Ps 119:129-136, Rom 6:12-14, 1 John 1:9!!!!

I know I do a good job of loving YHWH to the best of my ability, but truly loving my neighbor I need to do a much better job of Deut 10:18-19, Deut 11:1-32, Deut 13:3, 1 Sa 18:1-5, 2 Sam 9:1-13, John 3:16, John 13:34-35, Rom 5:8, Rom 12:9-21, Rom 13:8-10, 1 Co 13:1-13, Eph 5:1-21, 1 Jn 3:11-14, 1 Jn 4:1-21, 1 Jn 5:3 !!!!
