Tell me about your relationship with God?
Prayer, Bible reading, Church attendance, fellowship, good deeds, and witnessing are all popular answers.
The Holy Spirit is essential to an active Christian life.
Romans 8:9 But you are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God dwells in you. Now if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he is not His.
Not a lot of people prioritize the importance of the Holy Spirit in their lives.
A Baptist may fear becoming a Pentecostal.
Acts 2:1–4 When the Day of Pentecost had fully come, they were all with one accord in one place. And suddenly there came a sound from heaven, as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled the whole house where they were sitting. Then there appeared to them divided tongues, as of fire, and one sat upon each of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.
We will speak a little bit about Biblical speaking in tongues. Please don’t be afraid of the Spirit living in you leading you everyday teaching you and working in you.
Some churches misuse God, don’t neglect his place in your life, Some churches misuse Mary, we shouldn’t neglect her place, some misuse Jesus, we should not neglect His place. In other words don’t through the baby out with the bath water. The Holy Spirit is good, no...
The Holy Spirit is vital to your Christian life.
1 Corinthians 6:11 And such were some of you. But you were washed, but you were sanctified, but you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus and by the Spirit of our God.
The Holy Spirit is God.
2 Corinthians 13:14 The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Spirit be with you all. Amen.
Do you see the equality in the trinity in that verse, grace of Jesus, the Love of the Father, and the communion of the Holy Spirit are all on equal footing.
The Holy Spirit is equal to the rest of the Trinity.
Matthew 28:19 Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,
When you get saved it is because of the redemption purchased by Jesus on the cross, it is by the Father pronouncing you innocent and the regeneration of the Spirit. You are are living the Christian life for the Father Son and Holy Spirit. I am guilty. I talk about seeing Jesus and the scars in His hand. I talk about seeing God seated on the throne of heaven. with angels surrounding the throne. But what about the Spirit. Oh I will give you a little lea way. The Holy Spirit is right here right now. You see that is the thing we are going to learn about the Spirit. He is part of the Trinity that works in the background He is different than the Father and the Son.
The Holy Spirit is not Jesus and He is not the Father.
John 14:16 And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever—
You can’t just lump God all into one and think that if you are giving attention to God that you have accepted Jesus and that you know the Holy Spirit. They are all one, all equal, but all different.
I Believe a lot of Christians believe that God can do anything that He is all powerful, they believe that there is power in the name of Jesus and that God but they limit the Holy Spirit. I understand why. They watch a documentary on a Pentecostal Church and being slain in the spirit and they learn that some of the things they are doing is all theatrics. That may be true, but don’t hold that against the Holy Spirit.
The Holy Spirit is all powerful.
Psalm 104:30 You send forth Your Spirit, they are created; And You renew the face of the earth.
Job 33:4 The Spirit of God has made me, And the breath of the Almighty gives me life.
God was active in the work of creation, like the Father and the Son. Not that they needed help but they demonstrated unified harmony. If you can create the universe , you can do anything.
The Holy Spirit is all knowing.
1 Corinthians 2:10 But God has revealed them to us through His Spirit. For the Spirit searches all things, yes, the deep things of God.
We talk a lot about how God knows everything and we sing O be careful little hands what you do for the Father up above is looking down in love. (I have no problem with that song) Let’s get a little closer to home the Spirit that is hear knows everything you do my dear. And He dwells hear. I have been thinking about that a lot. I don’t trust the truth of the world at all. Not what I am told, so we need to let the spirit guide us in the truth.
If the Spirit knows everything, let Him guide you to the truth.
John 16:13 However, when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth; for He will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears He will speak; and He will tell you things to come.
In a world in which trust is hard to find. When we struggle to trust anything we hear, when you can’t trust a phone call, an email, the TV, the New maybe your spouse maybe your kids you can trust the Holy Spirit and if you want a reason to live a purpose is your life you should listen to His leading. because...
The Holy Spirit is everywhere.
Psalm 139:7 Where can I go from Your Spirit? Or where can I flee from Your presence?
Do you believe that when you go to the doctor the holy spirit goes with you? Do you trust that when drive down the road the holy spirit is with you. He goes before you and stands behind you. He is with your children when they go off by themselves. When your child goes into war. He can protect them better than you can. Faith is trusting that the Holy Spirit will take care of those you can’t
In the next few weeks we are going to take a careful look at the Holy Spirit through the scriptures. He may be the most neglected part of the trinity because there isn’t a definitive book about him. If you want to learn about Jesus you read the gospels and if you want to know about the Father there are a lot of passages that focus directly on Him on His throne. The Holy Spirit works in the background. He is more than you conscience.
The Holy Spirit has personhood.
Romans 8:27 Now He who searches the hearts knows what the mind of the Spirit is, because He makes intercession for the saints according to the will of God.
He has a mind and he does person like things. He isn’t just a presence or just a preminition a feeling in the wind. He is unique and distinguishable from the other parts of the trinity. I have tried to really wrap my head around the trinity. I don’t get it, but that is ok. I thank God for the trinity.
The Holy Spirit teaches you.
1 Corinthians 2:13 These things we also speak, not in words which man’s wisdom teaches but which the Holy Spirit teaches, comparing spiritual things with spiritual.
A Pastor can preach God’s word, but is the Spirit that teaches your heart. He speaks to you and if you learn anything it comes from him.
The Holy Spirit has feelings.
Ephesians 4:30 And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption.
You’re faith will please God, your disobedience will disappoint Him. Maybe that word is a cop out. It down plays what you do to the spirit. You anger Him. I want to please my God. I fail but it is important to know that my obedience brings Him joy. I think we would do well to remember the reality of the indwelling Spirit.
The Holy Spirit has a will.
Acts 16:6–11 Now when they had gone through Phrygia and the region of Galatia, they were forbidden by the Holy Spirit to preach the word in Asia. After they had come to Mysia, they tried to go into Bithynia, but the Spirit did not permit them. So passing by Mysia, they came down to Troas. And a vision appeared to Paul in the night. A man of Macedonia stood and pleaded with him, saying, “Come over to Macedonia and help us.” Now after he had seen the vision, immediately we sought to go to Macedonia, concluding that the Lord had called us to preach the gospel to them. Therefore, sailing from Troas, we ran a straight course to Samothrace, and the next day came to Neapolis,
The Holy Spirit is power to the believer.
Acts 1:8 But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.
The Holy Spirit is our daily helper.
Romans 8:26 Likewise the Spirit also helps in our weaknesses. For we do not know what we should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself makes intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.
The good in this world is found in the fruit of the Spirit.
Galatians 5:22–23 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law.
The Holy Spirit is God’s gift to you.
Acts 2:38 Then Peter said to them, “Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.
