The Call to God’s People
The Posture of the People
The Promise of God
I. The Promise to Hear.
God Hears All
Psalm 139:1–4 “O Lord, You have searched me and known me. You know when I sit down and when I rise up; You understand my thought from afar. You scrutinize my path and my lying down, And are intimately acquainted with all my ways. Even before there is a word on my tongue, Behold, O Lord, You know it all.”
God doesn’t hear
When we are living in sin.
Proverbs 28:9 “He who turns away his ear from listening to the law, Even his prayer is an abomination.”
When we ask according to our own selfish desires.
James 4:3 “You ask and do not receive, because you ask with wrong motives, so that you may spend it on your pleasures.”
When what we ask is not in accordance with His will for us.
1 John 5:14 “This is the confidence which we have before Him, that, if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us.”
When we do not ask in faith.
Mark 11:24 ““Therefore I say to you, all things for which you pray and ask, believe that you have received them, and they will be granted you.”
“faith is not believing for something; it is believing in Someone. Our faith is in the character of God and His desire to bless and comfort us. When we pray, we should have faith that He hears us and will grant every request that is in line with His will for us.”
Broken relationships
Matthew 6:14–15 ““For if you forgive others for their transgressions, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. “But if you do not forgive others, then your Father will not forgive your transgressions.”
1 Peter 3:7 “You husbands in the same way, live with your wives in an understanding way, as with someone weaker, since she is a woman; and show her honor as a fellow heir of the grace of life, so that your prayers will not be hindered.”
II. The Promise to Forgive.
What does it mean to forgive.
“release” or “dismissal”
1 John 1:9If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”
Psalm 103:11–14 “For as high as the heavens are above the earth, So great is His lovingkindness toward those who fear Him. As far as the east is from the west, So far has He removed our transgressions from us. Just as a father has compassion on his children, So the Lord has compassion on those who fear Him. For He Himself knows our frame; He is mindful that we are but dust.”
III. The Promise to Heal.
Restoration
1 Peter 5:10 NASB95
After you have suffered for a little while, the God of all grace, who called you to His eternal glory in Christ, will Himself perfect, confirm, strengthen and establish you.
Psalm 23.
1 John 1:9 “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
Romans 12:2 “And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect.”
2 Corinthians 4:7-18.
Romans 6.
Conclusion
