Psalm 86
Psalm 86
A prayer for deliverance
A prayer for deliverance
Psalm 86:title–4 “ A Prayer of David. 1 Bow down Your ear, O Lord, hear me; For I am poor and needy. 2 Preserve my life, for I am holy; You are my God; Save Your servant who trusts in You! 3 Be merciful to me, O Lord, For I cry to You all day long. 4 Rejoice (make glad) the soul of Your servant, For to You, O Lord, I lift up my soul.”
This is where I see how much trouble I am in. Do I really pray? Like all day long? Lets pray for our troubles right now.
We need to have an expectation of God

Psalm 86:5–6 “ For You, Lord, are good, and ready to forgive, And abundant in mercy to all those who call upon You. 6 Give ear, O Lord, to my prayer; And attend to the voice of my supplications.”
We know that He is, but it is all in His timing. Not untoward to ask.
Who we call upon
Who we call upon
Psalm 86:7 “ In the day of my trouble I will call upon You, For You will answer me.”
again, expectation because he is the give of all good things
God the Incomparable Ruler of All
God the Incomparable Ruler of All
Psalm 86:8–11 “ Among the gods there is none like You, O Lord; Nor are there any works like Your works. (all demons or false 1 Corinthians 10:20, 21) 9 All nations whom You have made Shall come and worship before You, O Lord, And shall glorify Your name. (over and over not just about Israel, all called to worship one true God) 10 For You are great, and do wondrous things; You alone are God. 11 Teach me Your way, O Lord; I will walk in Your truth; Unite my heart to fear Your name.”
Teach: instruct. 2+2=5? Once I know, then I can math. Once I teach it, is in heart and I trust it. Could go to moon fly jets.
Teach me law, I live it (practice), then tell others, then bound to one (God) who i worship (not law).
Thanks for saving my life

Psalm 86:12–13 “ I will praise You, O Lord my God, with all my heart, And I will glorify Your name forevermore. 13 For great is Your mercy toward me, And You have delivered my soul from the depths of Sheol.”
synonymous with grave and hell. Here though looks like you kept me alive.

Psalm 86:14 “ O God, the proud have risen against me, And a mob of violent men have sought my life, And have not set You before them.”

Psalm 86:16–17 “ Oh, turn to me, and have mercy on me! Give Your strength to Your servant, And save the son of Your maidservant. 17 Show me a sign for good, That those who hate me may see it and be ashamed, Because You, Lord, have helped me and comforted me.”
Numbers 6:24–26 “ “The Lord bless you and keep you; 25 The Lord make His face shine upon you, And be gracious to you; 26 The Lord lift up His countenance upon you, And give you peace.” ’”

The City of God
The City of God
Psalm 87:title–3 “ A Psalm of the Sons of Korah. A Song. 1 His foundation is in the holy mountains. 2 The Lord loves the gates of Zion More than all the dwellings of Jacob. 3 Glorious things are spoken of you, O city of God! Selah”
why is zion so important? because its so nice? No. Because God visited there. Now He is omnipresent so he is everywhere (not like the force) he is a person. but he manifested in Zion. He showed up there touched our reality.
I wonder if there are places between Egypt and Israel in the wilderness where the tabernacle was that is still “different”.
Those born elsewhere
Those born elsewhere
Psalm 87:4 “ “I will make mention of Rahab and Babylon to those who know Me; Behold, O Philistia and Tyre, with Ethiopia: ‘This one was born there.’ ””
Rahab warned the people. She is in the line of David.
Born in Zion
Born in Zion
Psalm 87:5 “ And of Zion it will be said, “This one and that one were born in her; And the Most High Himself shall establish her.””
Yahweh knows
Yahweh knows
Psalm 87:6 “ The Lord will record, When He registers the peoples: “This one was born there.” Selah”
Psalm 87:7 “ Both the singers and the players on instruments say, “All my springs are in you.””
The Lord knows the name of every human being ever born. (including spiritual beings)
everyone loved the idea of being born in Jerusalem/Israel.
But also looks to the one born in Zion on the cross, raised also in that same place from the dead. Truly the greatest sprang from them.

Psalm 88
The misery of God’s wrath
The misery of God’s wrath
Psalm 88:title–7 “ A Song. A Psalm of the Sons of Korah. To the Chief Musician. Set to “Mahalath Leannoth.” a Contemplation of Heman the Ezrahite. 1 O Lord, God of my salvation, I have cried out day and night before You. 2 Let my prayer come before You; Incline Your ear to my cry. 3 For my soul is full of troubles, And my life draws near to the grave. 4 I am counted with those who go down to the pit; I am like a man who has no strength, 5 Adrift among the dead, Like the slain who lie in the grave, Whom You remember no more, And who are cut off from Your hand. 6 You have laid me in the lowest pit, In darkness, in the depths. 7 Your wrath lies heavy upon me, And You have afflicted me with all Your waves. Selah”
Its like we drown in his truth when we fall under the wrath. When I am really down I can feel like I’m dying. When you live in sin and don't feel this, thats the worry.
Of loneliness & misery
Of loneliness & misery
Psalm 88:8–10 “ You have put away my acquaintances far from me; You have made me an abomination to them; I am shut up, and I cannot get out; 9 My eye wastes away because of affliction. Lord, I have called daily upon You; I have stretched out my hands to You. 10 Will You work wonders for the dead? Shall the dead arise and praise You? Selah”
God can and will work wonders, even on the dead. But being under His wrath, seems like death.
Yahweh hears me?
Yahweh hears me?
Psalm 88:11–18 “ Shall Your lovingkindness be declared in the grave? Or Your faithfulness in the place of destruction? 12 Shall Your wonders be known in the dark? And Your righteousness in the land of forgetfulness? 13 But to You I have cried out, O Lord, And in the morning my prayer comes before You. 14 Lord, why do You cast off my soul? Why do You hide Your face from me? 15 I have been afflicted and ready to die from my youth; I suffer Your terrors; I am distraught. 16 Your fierce wrath has gone over me; Your terrors have cut me off. 17 They came around me all day long like water; They engulfed me altogether. 18 Loved one and friend You have put far from me, And my acquaintances into darkness.”
And the beginning of the restoration of this relationship begins with what? Repentance. But that involves rejecting what got me here. What I replace God with, my sin.
As Christians we can live as dead in sin when we live as those that are lost.
What can folks repent from if they don’t know whats what? When you are living in sin and rebellion, you can feel all alone in the middle of a crowd. Come back.
