2 Corinthians 7:5-16

1. (V8) For even if I made you sorry with my letter

***(The letter) Remember, Paul wrote 1 Corinthians to rebuke them for allowing sin in the church and the elders did nothing about it
It also could of been, a letter that is lost, which was written between 1-2 Cor
a) I do not regret it but I did regret it
The worst thing about my job is correcting people, but its necessary
Proverbs 3:11–12 “My son, do not despise the chastening of the Lord, Nor detest His correction; For whom the Lord loves He corrects, Just as a father the son in whom he delights.”
Proverbs 12:1 “Whoever loves instruction loves knowledge, But he who hates correction is stupid.”
Proverbs 13:24He who spares his rod hates his son, But he who loves him disciplines him promptly.”

2. (V9) Now I rejoice because godly sorrow led to repentance

a) Godly sorrow is a sign of repentance
When I discipline my kids, at times, the only thing they are sorrowful over is the consequence (Thats not godly sorrow, thats worldly sorrow which produces death)

3. (V10) Repentance leads to salvation

a) The Holy Spirit convicts the heart, which leads to repentance, thus results in salvation

4. (V11) I observed this sorrow led to repentance (Evidence)

a) Paul see the evidence of repentance
2 Corinthians 5:17 “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.”
b) Diligence (Effort on your part)
Maybe you don’t feel bad for the sin in your life
Are you saved? (Job of the H.S)
Is your conscience seared? Meaning you are hardened to the sin in your life
Ask God to convict you or to grieve you for the things that grieve Him
