Next story! Jesus leaves the wilderness and goes back to civilization. What do y’all think he starts doing when he gets back? He starts to preach! And he tells people to repent because the kingdom of heaven has come near!! But now, its time to start his mission. But, theres something he needs to do so. Can anyone guess what that is?

Next up is where the disciples come in! He calls his first ones who were two brothers out fishing with nets and the next two more brothers out fishing on a boat. Now, how many of y’all have been fishing before? Fishing is one of my favorite things to do! What is the biggest fish you’ve ever caught? (Tell yours). What is the weirdest thing youve ever caught? Have you ever been fishing and had to drop everything and go somewhere? Here we have a pair of two brothers out fishing, because that is their job, theyre fishermen. And what do you think Jesus said to them?

Matthew 4:18–22 NLT

One day as Jesus was walking along the shore of the Sea of Galilee, he saw two brothers—Simon, also called Peter, and Andrew—throwing a net into the water, for they fished for a living. Jesus called out to them, “Come, follow me, and I will show you how to fish for people!” And they left their nets at once and followed him. A little farther up the shore he saw two other brothers, James and John, sitting in a boat with their father, Zebedee, repairing their nets. And he called them to come, too. They immediately followed him, leaving the boat and their father behind.

So to the disciples, this must seem wild. This guy they’ve never even met tells them hey, come follow me, I’ll show you how to fish for people! How do you fish for people? What does that look like? And they followed him! The ones in the boat just their father to follow this guy. Thats commitment! Jesus is going to teach them how to fish for people.....meaning not literally, but figurative. They are going to teach people, help people, heal people, love people. They are going to go out and teach about Jesus so they can go to heaven. Thats the fishing!! We are catching people from the fire of hell and saving them!

What can we learn from this? Follow Jesus, even when it seems crazy, and he will teach you. Help people to know Jesus so they have a chance to not go to the bad place. Be fishers of men!!
