To Guests
If you have put your faith upon/in Jesus Christ for redemption and your righteousness before God...
We invite you to join with us in participation of the Lord’s Supper.
If you have not, we would ask all who have not believed upon the Lord Jesus Christ...
To withhold from the Lord’s Supper...
So as to not take it in an unworthy manner.
During this time…we would commend to you prayer and asking the Lord to search your heart.
The Glory of the Gospel
The Glory of the Gospel
In the OT, Saul died and King David rightly took the throne.
Now, normally the family of the preceding King…
When the previous King was hostile to the new King…
The new King would kill the males of the preceding King’s family in order to avoid a rebellion and assassination attempts.
But David, because of his love for his best friend Jonathan…
David vowed to show kindness to Jonathan’s family.
So, he found out about a servant named Ziba and he called Ziba to come before him.
So, Ziba comes before King David…
2 Samuel 9:3 (ESV)
3 And the king said, “Is there not still someone of the house of Saul, that I may show the kindness of God to him?” Ziba said to the king, “There is still a son of Jonathan; he is crippled in his feet.”
David finds out where Jonathan’s son is and calls him to come into his presence.
2 Samuel 9:6–8 (ESV)
6 And Mephibosheth the son of Jonathan, son of Saul, came to David and fell on his face and paid homage. And David said, “Mephibosheth!” And he answered, “Behold, I am your servant.” 7 And David said to him, “Do not fear, for I will show you kindness for the sake of your father Jonathan, and I will restore to you all the land of Saul your father, and you shall eat at my table always.” 8 And he paid homage and said, “What is your servant, that you should show regard for a dead dog such as I?”
Listen to this…
2 Samuel 9:13 (ESV)
13 So Mephibosheth lived in Jerusalem, for he ate always at the king’s table. Now he was lame in both his feet.
There’s a greater King than David.
He is the eternal divine King and His kingdom is eternal.
We are invited to eat at His table, as well.
And, we are less worthy to eat at this table than Mephibosheth was at the table of King David.
Dear Christian, we are invited to the Wedding Feast of King Jesus…
The Greater than David King.
Revelation 19:9 (ESV)
9 And the angel said to me, “Write this: Blessed are those who are invited to the marriage supper of the Lamb.” And he said to me, “These are the true words of God.”
We are invited, not on the basis of our merit…
Not on the basis of our righteousness.
But our invitation is based on the perfect righteousness of Christ.
As We Come to the Table
As We Come to the Table
We come to the Lord’s Table to remember of who we were…
Who we are now in Christ.
We remember our inheritance in the Lord.
We remember the sacrifice of our Lord.
We look forward to sitting at the table with our King.
Unworthy in our self, yet made worthy by His covenant keeping life.
We rejoice in our adoption in the family of God.
We rejoice in our being sealed by the HS unto eternal life.
At the Table
At the Table
Understanding those important truths, we proceed.
1 Corinthians 11:23–24 (ESV): the Lord Jesus on the night when He was betrayed took bread, 24 and He gave thanks…
Let’s pray.
Then, He broke it, and Jesus said, “This is my body which is for you. Do this in remembrance of me.” —1 Cor 11:24
In the same way also he took the cup,
Let’s pray.
Jesus said, “This cup is the new covenant in my blood. Do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of me.” —1 Cor 11:25
