INTRODUCTION

Good Morning Life Church:

As we continue into the sermon on the mount, we have entered into Jesus’ understanding of the Law of God and His teachings on how His people are to order their lives.

Two weeks ago, we looked at how Jesus addressed murder -

Jesus expresses God’s law - -

Shows the Diagnosis of the vicious cycle of anger

Then gives us directions of how we can exit the cycle of anger through intentional reconciliation.

TODAY WE LOOK AT JESUS’ MESSAGE ON ADULTERY.

NEXT WEEK WE WILL LOOK AT HIS TEACHING ON DIVORCE!

“You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall not commit adultery’; but I say to you that everyone who looks at a woman with lust for her has already committed adultery with her in his heart. “If your right eye makes you stumble, tear it out and throw it from you; for it is better for you to lose one of the parts of your body, than for your whole body to be thrown into hell. “If your right hand makes you stumble, cut it off and throw it from you; for it is better for you to lose one of the parts of your body, than for your whole body to go into hell.

THE CYCLE OF BREAKING GOD’S PROTECTIVE LAW.

Jesus is quoting

Exodus 20:14 NASB95

“You shall not commit adultery.

A married person who has sexual relations with another person who is not their spouse.

THE DESTRUCTIVE ACT OF ADULTERY.

Breaks the trust between husband and wife.

Destroys the security a marriage offers both parties and the children.

Leads to lies, cover up, and destructive behavior.

Leaves the spouse in a state of emotional and mental brokenness, as well as body and sexual shame.

In other words it destroys the family, the spouse, and even the guilty spouse.

MOST IMPORTANTLY IT DESTROYS THE SYMBOLISM MARRIAGE GIVES THE WORLD OF GOD’S FAITHFULNESS.

Ephesians 5:22–33 NET

Wives, submit to your husbands as to the Lord, because the husband is the head of the wife as also Christ is the head of the church—he himself being the savior of the body. But as the church submits to Christ, so also wives should submit to their husbands in everything. Husbands, love your wives just as Christ loved the church and gave himself for her to sanctify her by cleansing her with the washing of the water by the word, so that he may present the church to himself as glorious—not having a stain or wrinkle, or any such blemish, but holy and blameless.In the same way husbands ought to love their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself. ONE OF THE MOST KNOWN BIBLICAL EXAMPLES IS DAVID AND BATHSHEEBA.

The adultery led to the murder of the faithful husband of Bathsheeba and servant of David.

A coverup to the nation that is exposed by the Prophet of God.

The death of their child.

The brokenness of Bathsheeba.

The broken and depressed spirit of David.

WHAT CAUSES THE SIN OF ADULTERY: LOOKING WITH LUST

Looks - Present Active Participle

Not a glance but a purposeful look - actively looking

Lust - To desire to possess, control or to dominate.

Not noticing beauty but desiring to possess someone.

JESUS DIAGNOSIS THE CAUSE OF ADULTERY AS ACTIVLEY LOOKING AT ANOTHER WITH THE DESIRE TO POSSESS THEM FOR YOURSELF.

Exodus 20:17 NASB95

“You shall not covet your neighbor’s house; you shall not covet your neighbor’s wife or his male servant or his female servant or his ox or his donkey or anything that belongs to your neighbor.”

LUST AND COVET ARE THE SAME.

REMEMBER KING DAVID?

2 Samuel 11:1–4 NASB95

Then it happened in the spring, at the time when kings go out to battle, that David sent Joab and his servants with him and all Israel, and they destroyed the sons of Ammon and besieged Rabbah. But David stayed at Jerusalem. Now when evening came David arose from his bed and walked around on the roof of the king’s house, and from the roof he saw a woman bathing; and the woman was very beautiful in appearance. So David sent and inquired about the woman. And one said, “Is this not Bathsheba, the daughter of Eliam, the wife of Uriah the Hittite?” David sent messengers and took her, and when she came to him, he lay with her; and when she had purified herself from her uncleanness, she returned to her house.

HOW WE LOOK WITH LUST IN THE MODERN WORLD.

The number one issue we have today is pornography.

It reshapes how our minds work and releases chemicals that cause addiction.

Overly sexualized society that teaches our children that sex is everything.

The Church not teaching the Holiness of sex in marriage due to our shame of sex.

THIS IS NOT JUST A MEN’S ISSUE.

WOMEN ALSO LUST WITH THEIR EYES.

LUST FOR ANOTHER MAN THEY PRECIEVE TO BE A BETTER PROVIDER.

LUST FOR A MAN THEY PRECIEVE TO BE A BETTER COMFORTER.

SOCIETY HAS CHANGED THE MINDS OF OUR WOMEN TO WHERE THEY ARE EVEN BECOMING ADDICTED TO PORN AND SEXUAL EXPLORATION.

JESUS SAW THIS AS A HUMAN ISSUE.

Every man I have ever met including myself has had to deal with the sin of lustful looking.

Many women as well.

JESUS IS SAYING WE HAVE TO DEAL WITH THIS ISSUE OF OUR HEART AND MIND OR IT WILL LEAD TO ADULTERY WHICH DESTROYS THE FAMILY AND SOCIETY.

HYPERBOLIC LANGAUGE / LISTEN AND OBEY! ATTENTION GETTER.

Jesus is not calling for amputation but rather an intentional war against your sinful flesh.

REMOVE THE STUMBLING BLOCK!

Maybe don’t take your phone to bed with you.

Turn off the TV and read a good book

Unplug and get into nature.

remove yourself from comprimising company.

Whatever it is Satan uses to invade your mind and therefore your lustful look - remove it!

LET ME GIVE YOU THREE MORE WAYS YOU CAN CUT THIS SIN OUT OF YOUR LIFE.

CONFESS TO A TRUSTED FRIEND THAT LOVES YOU ENOUGH TO CALL YOU OUT.

James - “Confess your sins one to another and you will be healed.”

BE HONEST AND OPEN IN YOUR MARRIAGE EVEN IN THE SHAMEFULNESS.

Spouses work together to better one another.

Both be honest and both learn to ask for forgiveness.

Do not think that taking your body from the other will fix the problem!

Pray for one another with earnestness.

IDLENESS LEAVES YOUR VULNERABLE!

David did not go out to war - he set around in idleness.

Wicked imaginations always seem to pop up in boardroom.

A sin of the heart if not slayed will turn into a sin of action.

I know this topic is somewhat shameful but it is important.

It is a topic most of us have to deal with and one most of us need to learn how to fight.

Your family is important enough!

Your spouse is important enough!

Your marriage is important enough!

Society is important enough!

How you image God to the world is important enough!

GO SLAY THE DRAGON

CUT OFF THE STUMBLING BLOCK THAT SATAN USES TO INVADE YOUR MIND AND HEART.

CONFESS TO A TRUSTED FRIEND THAT LOVES YOU ENOUGH TO CALL YOU OUT AND KEEP YOUR TRUST.

BE HONEST AND OPEN TO ONE ANOTHER IN YOUR MARRIAGE

STAY AWAY FROM IDLENESS.
