Sometimes, when you want to have a conversation with someone, the best thing to do is to get them talking about themselves.
For most of us, talking about ourselves is comfortable, easy, and natural.
We live in a society that places a high value on experience.
Your experience is yours and no one can argue with it. That is something our society tends to believe.
This reality plays into our favor as Christians.
Each of us has a story to tell.
Hi!
I’m Jon, your spiritual fitness coach, and we are going to talk about How to share Jesus.
There is a passage in Scripture, in the Bible, often called “The Great Commission”.
In Matthew 28:19-20 Jesus says this,
19 Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”
The idea of this passage is that we go, and as we are going we make disciples and teach them.
The impression I get from this is that we are to take advantage of every opportunity to tell people about what Jesus has done for us.
As we go about our daily lives, we encounter people and we share with them.
There is a man in the Bible who does this really well. His name is Phillip.
One day, after having preached Jesus to a whole city and seeing many people come to Christ, Philip was sleeping.
He gets woken up out of a sound sleep by the angel of the Lord and told to go on a walk.
He goes on the walk and sees a chariot and the Holy Spirit tells him to catch it.
So he does.
The man in the chariot is reading Isaiah’s prophecy about the suffering of Jesus.
So Philip tells him about Jesus and baptizes him.
As soon as he is done, the Holy Spirit moves him on to another city and Philip preaches there.
All of this is found in Acts chapter 8.
This is what I picture when I think of preaching Jesus at every opportunity.
I’m in Samaria? I’m going to talk about Jesus.
I see a guy in a chariot? I’m going to talk to him about Jesus!
I’m in a new city? Let’s talk about Jesus!
We are called by God to take advantage of opportunities.
Now. When an opportunity comes, what do we say?
Philip was an evangelist, I’m not.
So what do we do?
We use our story.
Every single one of us who has come to Jesus has a story of how that happened.
We have a story of how we have been transformed by Jesus Christ!
That is what we share.
This does require that we know our story and have thought through it enough to share it.
So.
Think through your salvation story, think through what God has done in your life.
Maybe even write it down.
Then, when you have an opportunity, simply share what Jesus has done for you.
This is the most natural and easy way to share.
Share the experience that you have with a life-transforming God.
God can and will use our stories to bring other people to Himself.
Take advantage of every opportunity to share what Jesus has done for you.
