After the children charge through the house screaming and fighting the whole way, the two ladies look at one another and say, “that woman must have the patience of Job.”
Have you heard or seen something similar?
Out of curiosity, I looked up that phrase, “the patience of Job” and this was the top Google result.
From Quora.com
Saying you have “the patience of Job,” means that even when terrible things happen to you, you remain calm and work your way out of it. Usually, a person who says this about you is praising you.

Hello, my name is Jon and I am your spiritual fitness coach.
Right now, we are going to talk about patience.
Do you know who really had the patience of Job?
Job did.
Job endured the loss of all his earthly possessions, his children, and faced the accusations of his three closest friends.
Throughout all of that, this is the reputation he maintained.
22 In all this Job did not sin or charge God with wrong.
To be patient, we endure trials and difficulties, while focused on doing what God has called us to do.
Job demonstrated patience through his endurance.
Patience isn’t just waiting for something to happen.
Patience is the attitude we have while we wait.
James 5:11 says this
11 Behold, we consider those blessed who remained steadfast. You have heard of the steadfastness of Job, and you have seen the purpose of the Lord, how the Lord is compassionate and merciful.
The King James Version translated the phrase “steadfastness of Job” as “the patience of Job” which is where the popular phrase comes from.
We are blessed when we are steadfast.
Job was steadfast, he endured with patience the trials he faced.
This verse in James tells us that God is compassionate and merciful.
It is this belief, this understanding, that gets us through the difficult times.
God is compassionate and merciful.
Even in times of pain, even when it really doesn’t seem like it, God is compassionate and merciful.
We can endure, we can be patient, because we know Who our God is!
We can have the patience of Job, because we know Job’s God.
This is the key.
We must know Job’s God.
We cannot be patient if we are focused only on our wants and desires.
Patience comes when we focus on the Lord.
Job demonstrates this for us in Job 1:20-21.
20 Then Job arose and tore his robe and shaved his head and fell on the ground and worshiped. 21 And he said, “Naked I came from my mother’s womb, and naked shall I return. The Lord gave, and the Lord has taken away; blessed be the name of the Lord.”
This is the response of a man of faith!
God gives, God takes away, blessed be His name!
This is what patient endurance look like.
Do we believe that God is good?
Do we believe that He is to be worshipped no matter what?
That is what gives us the ability to have patience.
Learn about who God is through His Word and you will be able to have patience.
The ability to endure trials comes as we keep our focus on the Lord.
So
Focus on Jesus and patiently endure.
Remember, He is compassionate and merciful.
