I. His Faithful Saviour. vs.31-32

What to expect from the Christian life. v.31
31 And the Lord said, Simon, Simon, behold, Satan hath desired to have you, that he may sift you as wheat:
Job 1:8–11
8 And the LORD said unto Satan, Hast thou considered my servant Job, that there is none like him in the earth, a perfect and an upright man, one that feareth God, and escheweth evil?
9 Then Satan answered the LORD, and said, Doth Job fear God for nought?
10 Hast not thou made an hedge about him, and about his house, and about all that he hath on every side? thou hast blessed the work of his hands, and his substance is increased in the land.
11 But put forth thine hand now, and touch all that he hath, and he will curse thee to thy face.
Job 2:3–6
3 And the LORD said unto Satan, Hast thou considered my servant Job, that there is none like him in the earth, a perfect and an upright man, one that feareth God, and escheweth evil? and still he holdeth fast his integrity, although thou movedst me against him, to destroy him without cause.
4 And Satan answered the LORD, and said, Skin for skin, yea, all that a man hath will he give for his life.
5 But put forth thine hand now, and touch his bone and his flesh, and he will curse thee to thy face.
6 And the LORD said unto Satan, Behold, he is in thine hand; but save his life.
Zechariah 3:1
And he shewed me Joshua the high priest standing before the angel of the LORD, and Satan standing at his right hand to resist him.
1 Peter 5:8
Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:
What to expect from Christ. v.32
32 But I have prayed for thee, that thy faith fail not: and when thou art converted, strengthen thy brethren.
Hebrews 12:2
Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.
This is the most promising phrase for us. The truth that Jesus is sitting down at the right hand of God gives us reasons for hope:
Jesus is there making intercession for us (Hebrews 1:3; 4:14-16). He is praying for us!
Jesus is there awaiting the order to come get us (1 Thessalonians 4:13-18). He is returning soon!

II. His Faulty Saying. v.33

He thought he was ready to live. v.33a
33 And he said unto him, Lord, I am ready to go with thee,
Proverbs 28:26
He that trusteth in his own heart is a fool: but whoso walketh wisely, he shall be delivered.
He thought he was ready to die. v.33b
both into prison, and to death.
Are you ready to die?

III. His Fate Shown. v.34

Jesus knew him and called him by name. v.34a
34 And he said, I tell thee, Peter,
John 10:27
My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me:
Jesus knew him and showed him what he would not admit. v.34b
the cock shall not crow this day, before that thou shalt thrice deny that thou knowest me. (vs.54-62)

Conclusion:

What have you said you would not do?
Did Jesus say you would?
