This Week’s Theme: Purposed Abandoned
Word for the Week is Repent: It is a turning from one’s sinful ways, works, and will towards God’s ways, works, and will. It encompasses three aspects. First, a change of thinking that our way is wrong and God’s way is right. Second, a change in emotions to feel God’s way and not our way. Third, a change of will to desire God’s will and not ours.
Memory verse: Ephesians 2:10 “For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.”
Sermon Focus: God created us for a purpose, but our sin keeps us from living out that purpose.
Sermon Passage: Psalm 8:1-6; 14:1-7
Psalm 14:5–7 NKJV
5 There they are in great fear, For God is with the generation of the righteous. 6 You shame the counsel of the poor, But the Lord is his refuge. 7 Oh, that the salvation of Israel would come out of Zion! When the Lord brings back the captivity of His people, Let Jacob rejoice and Israel be glad.
Introduction: LETTA ME DO-IT lived in an assistant living facility. She needed assistance with her breathing. She needed assistance with walking. She needed assistance to place food from a plate to her mouth decided that she did not want to live in a restricted environment any more. She told the people who were protecting, providing, and HELPING HER THAT SHE WANTED TO LIVE LIFE ON HER OWN TERMS, THAT SHE WANTED TO BE INDEPENDENT
SHE DID NOT WANT TO DEPEND ON THEM ANYMORE.
INABILITY COULD BE LETTAME DOIT LIFE’S WORD
SHE COULDN’T
SHE COULDN’T
SHE COULDN’T
THEY ROLLED LETTA ME DOIT OFF THE PROPERTY FOR THE LAST TIME AND GRANTED HER DESIRES. NEEDLESS TO SAY THAT LETTAME DO-IT DID NOT LAST LONG.
DO WE HAVE ANY LET-TA-ME DO-IT IN THE HOUSE

I. Our Assignment

GOD’S WAYS

Psalm 8:1 NKJV
1 O Lord, our Lord, How excellent is Your name in all the earth, Who have set Your glory above the heavens!

GOD’S WORKS

Psalm 8:3 NKJV
3 When I consider Your heavens, the work of Your fingers, The moon and the stars, which You have ordained,

GOD’S WILL

Psalm 8:4–6 NKJV
4 What is man that You are mindful of him, And the son of man that You visit him? 5 For You have made him a little lower than the angels, And You have crowned him with glory and honor. 6 You have made him to have dominion over the works of Your hands; You have put all things under his feet,
Psalm 8:4–5 NKJV
4 What is man that You are mindful of him, And the son of man that You visit him? 5 For You have made him a little lower than the angels, And You have crowned him with glory and honor.
Genesis 1:26 NKJV
26 Then God said, “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.”
Psalm 8:6 NKJV
6 You have made him to have dominion over the works of Your hands; You have put all things under his feet,
Genesis 1:27 NKJV
27 So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them.
Genesis 9:2 NKJV
2 And the fear of you and the dread of you shall be on every beast of the earth, on every bird of the air, on all that move on the earth, and on all the fish of the sea. They are given into your hand.
Hebrews 2:8 NKJV
8 You have put all things in subjection under his feet.” For in that He put all in subjection under him, He left nothing that is not put under him. But now we do not yet see all things put under him.

II. Our Abandonment

Psalm 14:1–3 NKJV
1 The fool has said in his heart, “There is no God.” They are corrupt, They have done abominable works, There is none who does good. 2 The Lord looks down from heaven upon the children of men, To see if there are any who understand, who seek God. 3 They have all turned aside, They have together become corrupt; There is none who does good, No, not one.
THE FIRST FAMILY ADAM AND EVE WERE FOOLISH
THEY REJECTED LIVING LIFE ACCORDING TO THE RULE AND REIGN OF GOD AND DECIDED TO LIVE ACCORDING TO THE DICTATES OF THEIR OWN HEARTS.
THEY REJECTED AND STOPPED SINGING THE SONG GOD’S WAY AND STARTING A NEW SONG THAT GENERATIONS AFTER GENERATIONS HAVE SONG OVER AND OVER AGAIN

MY WAY

The people
Dumped GOD’S Demands
Left GOD’S Law
Strayed From HIS Statues
Junked HIS Judgments
Trashed HIS Testimonies
Walked Away From HIS Word
AFTER THE FLOOD THE PEOPLE GOT TOGETHER NOT TO RULE ACCORDING TO GOD’S COMMANDS BUT TO SING THAT SAME OLD SELF-CENTERED SONG,
LOOK AT Genesis 11:4
Genesis 11:4 NKJV
4 And they said, “Come, let us build ourselves a city, and a tower whose top is in the heavens; let us make a name for ourselves, lest we be scattered abroad over the face of the whole earth.”
IN JESUS PARABLE ABOUT THE RICH MAN WHOM GOD HAS BLESSED WITH MORE THAN ENOUGH, INSTEAD OF LIVING AND RULING GOD’S WAY, HE OPTED FOR THE CURSED CHORUS OF ME, MYSELF, AND I

MY WAY

LOOK AT Luke 12:18
Luke 12:18 NKJV
18 So he said, ‘I will do this: I will pull down my barns and build greater, and there I will store all my crops and my goods.
MAYBE YOU ARE OPERATING LIKE JAMES’ DESCRIPTION OF A BUSINESS MAN WHO STATES THAT HE WILL GO TO AN UNSPECIFIED LOCATION AND CONTRACT BUSINESS IN THAT LOCATION AND THEN RETURN.
DO YOU SEE WHAT IS MISSING?
WHERE IS THE MESSAGE OF PROVERBS 3:5-6
Proverbs 3:5–6 NKJV
5 Trust in the Lord with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding; 6 In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths.
WHERE IS THE MESSAGE OF MATTHEW 6:33
Matthew 6:33 NKJV
33 But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.
HAVE YOU Focused more on
Satisfaction rather than submitting to Christ,
Satisfaction rather than sanctification
Satisfaction rather than seeking Christ
BUT WE SHOULD Rather Say ACCORDING TO James 4:15
James 4:15 NKJV
15 Instead you ought to say, “If the Lord wills, we shall live and do this or that.”
Proverbs 19:21 NKJV
21 There are many plans in a man’s heart, Nevertheless the Lord’s counsel—that will stand.
LOOK AT PS 8:2
Psalm 8:2 NKJV
2 Out of the mouth of babes and nursing infants You have ordained strength, Because of Your enemies, That You may silence the enemy and the avenger.
Matthew 11:25 (NKJV)
25 At that time Jesus answered and said, I thank thee, O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because thou hast hid these things from the wise and prudent, and hast revealed them unto babes.
1 Corinthians 1:27 NKJV
27 But God has chosen the foolish things of the world to put to shame the wise, and God has chosen the weak things of the world to put to shame the things which are mighty;
Psalm 46:10 NKJV
10 Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth!

III. Our Advocate

Psalm 14:4–6 NKJV
4 Have all the workers of iniquity no knowledge, Who eat up my people as they eat bread, And do not call on the Lord? 5 There they are in great fear, For God is with the generation of the righteous. 6 You shame the counsel of the poor, But the Lord is his refuge.
NO KNOWLEDGE
Psalm 10:2 NKJV
2 The wicked in his pride persecutes the poor; Let them be caught in the plots which they have devised.
Psalm 140:12 NKJV
12 I know that the Lord will maintain The cause of the afflicted, And justice for the poor.
THEY DESTROY
Micah 3:2–3 NKJV
2 You who hate good and love evil; Who strip the skin from My people, And the flesh from their bones; 3 Who also eat the flesh of My people, Flay their skin from them, Break their bones, And chop them in pieces Like meat for the pot, Like flesh in the caldron.”
REFUSE TO CALL
Psalm 14:4 NKJV
4 Have all the workers of iniquity no knowledge, Who eat up my people as they eat bread, And do not call on the Lord?

REFUGE
Psalm 14:5–6 NKJV
5 There they are in great fear, For God is with the generation of the righteous. 6 You shame the counsel of the poor, But the Lord is his refuge.
WORK ON OUR BEHALF
JESUS
Philippians 2:7,8 (NKJV)
7 But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men: 8 And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.
Hebrews 2:7,9,16 (NKJV)
7 Thou madest him a little lower than the angels; thou crownedst him with glory and honour, and didst set him over the works of thy hands: 9 But we see Jesus, who was made a little lower than the angels for the suffering of death, crowned with glory and honour; that he by the grace of God should taste death for every man. 16 For verily he took not on [him the nature of] angels; but he took on [him] the seed of Abraham.
