The trinity is unit, who is a unity in perfect harmony.
The Holy Spirit is a tool in our tool box. Last we we learned that He is God this week we are going to begin looking at His work outside of time. His work in the enduring word of God and His work in creation. These are just more tools in your Spiritual tool box. Remember to not forget the power of the Holy Spirit.
John 17:20–22 I do not pray for these alone, but also for those who will believe in Me through their word; that they all may be one, as You, Father, are in Me, and I in You; that they also may be one in Us, that the world may believe that You sent Me. And the glory which You gave Me I have given them, that they may be one just as We are one:
You understand that the trinity is so important to your relationship with God. We are about to spend a couple of weeks talking about the work of the Spirit in the Old Testament. The Trinity is hard to teach from the Old Testament. But again the NT is in the OT concealed and the OT is in the NT revealed. The fingerprints of the trinity are every where. It is Christ that educates us on the working of the Godhead in the Old Testament. The Trinity is so important in understand our salvation. We will talk about that later, He is also important in Inspiration of the Scriptures and work of creation. They each have their role their part to play which is distinct, but work together in perfect harmony. How can they be three who are 1 that all work separately but together. I DON’T KNOW. But there a lot of things I don’t know. You explain to me space time gravity and protons quarks and electrons. Than you can begin to try and understand the trinity. Do you realize that their are approximately 100 references to the Spirit of God in the Old Testament. He play an important part of the story.
The Holy Spirit perfectly communicated the Holy Scriptures through human agents.
2 Peter 1:21 for prophecy never came by the will of man, but holy men of God spoke as they were moved by the Holy Spirit.
The human authors of scriptures did not interfere in the perfect presentation of the Holy message. God the Father oversees the story of redemption Jesus is the story of redemption the Holy Spirit delivered and protects the story of redemption.
We believe in the verbal inspiration of the Bible in all parts. It is infallible and the Holy Spirit protects it, so that you can trust what you read in your hand today. This is the first point of our churches statement of faith.
You can trust every word that the Holy Spirit has delivered to you.
2 Timothy 3:16 All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness,
I know you may talk to me about English translators. Yes that is why constant inspection and study is required. People who are praying to the Holy Spirit to keep scholars accountable.
The Bible’s message was delivered to us by the supernatural power of the Holy Spirit.
Micah 3:8 But truly I am full of power by the Spirit of the Lord, And of justice and might, To declare to Jacob his transgression And to Israel his sin.
Jesus states that the Holy Spirit spoke through the writers of the Old Testament.
Matthew 22:43–44 He said to them, “How then does David in the Spirit call Him ‘Lord,’ saying: ‘The Lord said to my Lord, “Sit at My right hand, Till I make Your enemies Your footstool” ’?
Human hands wrote the Scriptures, the Holy Spirit guided their hearts.
Acts 28:25–27 So when they did not agree among themselves, they departed after Paul had said one word: “The Holy Spirit spoke rightly through Isaiah the prophet to our fathers, saying, ‘Go to this people and say: “Hearing you will hear, and shall not understand; And seeing you will see, and not perceive; For the hearts of this people have grown dull. Their ears are hard of hearing, And their eyes they have closed, Lest they should see with their eyes and hear with their ears, Lest they should understand with their hearts and turn, So that I should heal them.” ’
You often see the personality of the author coming through the scripture. The heart of David, the leadership of Moses, the wisdom of Solomon and the passion of Jeremiah but make no mistake it was the Holy Spirit who moved them. He guided their words. He made sure they conveyed God’s message and that we can see Christ clearly in the scriptures. He made sure that the Scriptures were perfection. No error is found in this book.
The Holy Spirit is the author of all Sixty Six books.
Hebrews 3:7–11 Therefore, as the Holy Spirit says: “Today, if you will hear His voice, Do not harden your hearts as in the rebellion, In the day of trial in the wilderness, Where your fathers tested Me, tried Me, And saw My works forty years. Therefore I was angry with that generation, And said, ‘They always go astray in their heart, And they have not known My ways.’ So I swore in My wrath, ‘They shall not enter My rest.’ ”
What was God doing before the creation of the Universe?
I have no reference as an answer but I think the Bible does give us some indication, but we have to understand something. God is eternal, outside of time and space. That is something we can’t understand in human terms. So don’t try to. Don’t picture God the Father, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit playing cards for eternity and one day getting bored and that’s how we got here. So I ask the question and there are some answers, what was God doing before the creation of the universe. They are not inclusive but they are important answers
The Holy Spirit helped plan creation.
Isaiah 40:12–14 Who has measured the waters in the hollow of His hand, Measured heaven with a span And calculated the dust of the earth in a measure? Weighed the mountains in scales And the hills in a balance? Who has directed the Spirit of the Lord, Or as His counselor has taught Him? With whom did He take counsel, and who instructed Him, And taught Him in the path of justice? Who taught Him knowledge, And showed Him the way of understanding?
These verse talk about planning for the moment of creation. A master builder doesn’t jump into a project without plans God had purpose in creation. Now I am not saying that God had to sit down with blue prints through some away and start over again. I am saying that His design includes intelligence.
The Holy Spirit created the stars.
Psalm 33:6 By the word of the Lord the heavens were made, And all the host of them by the breath of His mouth.
The word Spirit in this verse is often translated Spirit and if any of you look it up in Strong’s concordance it is the same word translated spirit in the story of creation in Genesis 1.2 du dum dum
The Holy Spirit was directly involved in creation week.
Genesis 1:2 The earth was without form, and void; and darkness was on the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters.
The beauty of creation is the handiwork of the Spirit.
Job 26:13 By His Spirit He adorned the heavens; His hand pierced the fleeing serpent.
Don’t think about the separate jobs of the trinity. I know you may like to think about them as a trio singing in harmony. That’s kind of low. They sing with one voice in the same key, but they are separate from each other.
The Holy Spirit was directly involved in the creation of animals.
Psalm 104:24–30 O Lord, how manifold are Your works! In wisdom You have made them all. The earth is full of Your possessions— This great and wide sea, In which are innumerable teeming things, Living things both small and great. There the ships sail about; There is that Leviathan Which You have made to play there. These all wait for You, That You may give them their food in due season. What You give them they gather in; You open Your hand, they are filled with good. You hide Your face, they are troubled; You take away their breath, they die and return to their dust. You send forth Your Spirit, they are created; And You renew the face of the earth.
How did God create? He spoke and it was so. The mighty breath of God moved over the world and the work of creation happened. The Spirit was directly, creatively involved. Jesus was involved the Father was involved. I give all the members of the trinity 100% of the credit for the creation of the universe. You see they are a unit, they are unity, and they are in perfect harmony!
The Holy Spirit was directly involved in the creation of Adam.
Job 33:4 The Spirit of God has made me, And the breath of the Almighty gives me life.
When you look around and see people you see the work of the Holy Spirit. There is that song, He’s still working on me. You know who is working in you it’s the Holy Spirit. His creative power can change you and make you into something more than you ever thought that you could be.
The main purpose of our discussion on the Holy Spirit is His work in us. He has one plan for you. God doesn’t have three plans. Our government has three parts to keep it in check, the judicial, the legislative, and the executive branch. They are different and meant to compliment each other. They are designed to have one goal. They are fractured divided. Not so with God! the Holy Spirit agenda is the same as the Son. His work is the same as the Father, but they are all unique! They work together, it’s wonderful.
When we pick up the Bible we often think about Jesus. The words written in read. In the beginning was the word all that great stuff. This week I want you to do something. When you pick up your Bible This is what I want you to say.
Father I am about to read your word.
Spirit you directed the hands the wrote the words. You have given me this message I trust the same care you put into getting it to me is the same teacher that you will be today, teach me about your Son and about how better to serve my Father.
When you look at creation.
Sing: even if you sound like me sing. I sing the mighty power of God… Remember the role of the Trinity. Thank the Holy Spirit for His work in your world and that He is still working on you. When you see a rabbit say thank you Spirit. When you see a deer say thank you Spirit. When you look out at a lake, river, or sea just say thank you LORD for those six days when He created you and me.
