Character

Intro: Think back to when you were 5: What do you want to be when you grow up?
Why do a lot of us not end up being what we said we wanted to be when we were 5?

We grow up/we change.

Life is filled with change. That is what makes growing up so difficult.
Change is good, but change is scary!
Every change that we experience in our lives happens in “Liminal Space”
Liminal- Latin root “Limen” which means “Threshold”
Liminal Space: is the uncertain transition between where you've been and where you're going physically, emotionally, or metaphorically.
Liminal Space is scary because we can’t control it.
Liminal Space isn’t an option, its a guarantee.
“It's a dangerous business, Frodo, going out your door. You step onto the road, and if you don't keep your feet, there's no knowing where you might be swept off to.”
- Bilbo Baggins

Liminal Space is where Character is Molded

Character is something everyone in this room is drawn to.
Why we read books.
Why we go to the movies/watch Netflix
Why we play video games
Why we watch sports.

Story of Joseph

None of you run the risk of being sold into slavery in Egypt, but this school year is a liminal space. Its a threshold of the next stage of your life.
The teachers, administrators, coaches, bosses, parents and pastors that are over you aren’t obstacles for you to work around, they’re guides to help you through the liminal space.
We’re here to walk alongside you through your successes and your failures.

The Cross is the defining reality of our Character.

Where are you at?
Dreamer who needs to recognize that, “without character, all other commendable traits falter and wither.”
Realist, who needs to wake up to the reality of Ephesians 2:10
Ephesians 2:10 ESV
10 For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.
