What do I believe God wants us to know? Confession is a grace and forgiving is a grace
Why? We want forgiveness
What do I believe God wants us to do? Ask for forgiveness, confess and to forgive others
Why? It is a grace that brings freedom
ME/WE
One of things in this life that many of HATE, DISLIKE, DISTAIN is, NO NOT THE STEELERS (Pittsburg people like Steelers) being in DEBT
ANYBODY LOVE TO BE IN DEBT…PLEASE GIVE ME MORE DEBT TO OUR CREDIT CARD…PLEASE GIVE ME MORE DEBT TO THE IRS
NO, NOBODY LIKES IT…WE WOULD RATHER BE ON THE OPPOSITE SIDE OF DEBT THE FAR OPPOSITE SIDE OF DEBT
But the reality is many of us at some point have been in DEBT for whatever reason….Christmas, house or car repairs
WE HATE IT
Proverbs 22:7 ESV
The rich rules over the poor, and the borrower is the slave of the lender.
WE FEEL LIKE SLAVES
2.THEN MANY TIMES WHAT WE HATE MORE IS WHEN WE ARE IN DEBT IS ASKING SOMEONE TO HELP US GET OUT OF DEBT
ANYBODY LOVE THAT CONVERSATION?
WE ARE A CULTURE THAT DOESN’T LIKE TO ASK FOR FINANCIAL HELP, OR HELP IN GENERAL
NOT ONLT DO WE NOT LIKE BEING IN DEBT, ASKING FOR HELPT TO GET OUT OF DEBT,
We also do not like to help someone get out of debt who got into debt by not listening to your advice or doing not smart things so we think they doesn’t “deserve” to get out of debt…WE SEE HOW YOU GOT INTO DEBT
SOME OF YOU ARE MAYBE THINKING WHAT DOES THESE THINGS HAVE TO DO WITH PRAYER?
IN a similar yet different way Jesus USES IN THE LORD’S PRAYER WE HAVE A DEBT that needs to be paid, BUT OUR DEBT IS NOT FINICIAL IT IS DEBT THAT HAS BEEN CAUSED BY SIN, TRANSGRESSIONS, and INIQUITY….
that have brought DEBT IN OUR RELATIONSHIP TO GOD AND OTHERS
DEBUT out of alignment and/or destruction at times to our relationships (with God and others), spiritual life, our emotions and our physical health
Jesus says to us God wants to BE FREE FROM THE DEBT, AND I WANT YOU TO FREE OTHERS FROM DEBT freedom to be brought to our relationships, emotoins, physical healthy,
One of the ways is we get OUT of DEBT is through CONFESSION
Look what it says a little review
Jesus first says don’t pray for performance
Nor babble. genie
PRAY OUR SOVEREIG KING? NO, OUR ABBA OUR FATHER
Pray for His name to be HONORED
Pray for His will kingdom and will to be done, not my will or my kingdom
Pray for our daily provision PRAY IN THE MOMENT
Then we moves and says pray (templete)
Matthew 6:12 ESV
and forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors.
WAIT A MINUTE…I am not confessing my sins THREE different groups
1. Some say it out of PRIDE
I don’t need to be FORGIVEN I have been good, Pharisees thought this way…what do I need to confess…you need to talk to the person who doesn’t go to church…muni lot
WHAT IS SIN?
THE ONLY SIN IS THOSE WHO SAY WE HAVE SIN
Tell that to your local government and tell that to God
WE MISS OUR OWN MARK
Psalm 139:23–24 ESV
Search me, O God, and know my heart! Try me and know my thoughts! And see if there be any grievous way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting!
2. Others out of FEAR
FAMILY
James 5:16 ESV
Therefore, confess your sins to one another and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person has great power as it is working.
What are they going to do if they find out? HELP YOU
What is God going to do if He finds out
Maybe because of bad FATHER or MOTHER, God is going to get me when we finds out…. “no secrets with God”
Romans 2:4 ESV
Or do you presume on the riches of his kindness and forbearance and patience, not knowing that God’s kindness is meant to lead you to repentance?
HE wants you to be free
3. I thought we are forgiven already? Why do we need to be forgiven again…SOME TAKE THIS VIEW
I have heard this view from people
Why do need to ask for forgiveness again
BECAUSE OUR FEET GET DIRTY? HUH
WE need one bath but many feet washing.
John 13:6–10 ESV
He came to Simon Peter, who said to him, “Lord, do you wash my feet?” Jesus answered him, “What I am doing you do not understand now, but afterward you will understand.” Peter said to him, “You shall never wash my feet.” Jesus answered him, “If I do not wash you, you have no share with me.” Simon Peter said to him, “Lord, not my feet only but also my hands and my head!” Jesus said to him, “The one who has bathed does not need to wash, except for his feet, but is completely clean. And you are clean, but not every one of you.”
Jesus says guess what I do? I forgive you
∫DOES JESUS SAY NO PAY??? That is expected
1 John 1:9 ESV
If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
Jesus says guess what I do? I forgive you
4. Group is thankful! God took my sin away….we see this
WE SEE DAVID COME TO KNOWLEDGE OF THIS AND IT COMPLETELY CHANGES HIM
AUGUSTINE HAD THIS ON HIS WALL
Psalm 32:1–2 ESV
Blessed is the one whose transgression is forgiven, whose sin is covered. Blessed is the man against whom the Lord counts no iniquity, and in whose spirit there is no deceit.
. In these first two verses, David used three words to describe sin.
· The idea behind transgression is crossing a line, defying authority, TRANSPASSING
· The idea behind sin is falling short of or missing a mark.
· The idea behind iniquity is of crookedness and distortion. PREMEDIATED CHOICE, I am going….
ii. In the first two verses, David used three terms to describe what God does to put away sin.
· The idea behind forgiven is the lifting of a burden or a debt.
· The idea behind covered is that of sacrificial blood covering sin.
· The idea behind does not impute is bookkeeping; it does not count against a person.
Transgression is forgiven: burden lifted
Sin is covered by the blood of the lamb
Does not count your iniquity against you
Psalm 103:12 ESV
as far as the east is from the west, so far does he remove our transgressions from us.
DAVID SAYS
my GOD, Jesus says when you confess your sins YOUR FATHER
FORGIVES YOUR TRANSGRESSIONS
COVERS YOUR SIN
DOES NOT COUNT YOUR INIQUITY AGAINST YOU!
WAHOO!!!
DO YOU KNOW WHAT THAT BRINGS?
CONFESSION IS A GRACE THAT BRINGS FREEDOM!!!
Psalm 32:5 ESV
I acknowledged my sin to you, and I did not cover my iniquity; I said, “I will confess my transgressions to the Lord,” and you forgave the iniquity of my sin. Selah
We know this
Look what David says
DO YOU KNOW WHAT HAPPENED WHEN I KEPT IT IN???
Psalm 32:3–4 ESV
For when I kept silent, my bones wasted away through my groaning all day long. For day and night your hand was heavy upon me; my strength was dried up as by the heat of summer. Selah
When I didn’t confess it was a weight
ANYBODY KNOW THE WEIGHT OF UNCONFESSED SIN???
THE ENEMY WANTS US TO BELIEVE OUR ABBA WILL GET US WITH A HAMMER, NO HE FREES US WITH LOVE
SOME OF YOU ARE HERE TODAY AND GOD IS SAYING CONFESS YOUR SINS
1 John 1:9 ESV
If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
SOME OF US GOD IS SAYING WHAT DAVID IS SAYS
IS THERE SOMETHING I NEED TO CONFESS
AND THEN HE GOD SAYS AS YOU HAVE BEEN FORGIVE, FORGIVE AND FREE OTHERS
Ephesians 4:32 ESV
Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you.
They don’t deserve it! Neither do you
Matthew 18:21–35 ESV
Then Peter came up and said to him, “Lord, how often will my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? As many as seven times?” Jesus said to him, “I do not say to you seven times, but seventy-seven times. “Therefore the kingdom of heaven may be compared to a king who wished to settle accounts with his servants. When he began to settle, one was brought to him who owed him ten thousand talents. And since he could not pay, his master ordered him to be sold, with his wife and children and all that he had, and payment to be made. So the servant fell on his knees, imploring him, ‘Have patience with me, and I will pay you everything.’ And out of pity for him, the master of that servant released him and forgave him the debt. But when that same servant went out, he found one of his fellow servants who owed him a hundred denarii, and seizing him, he began to choke him, saying, ‘Pay what you owe.’ So his fellow servant fell down and pleaded with him, ‘Have patience with me, and I will pay you.’ He refused and went and put him in prison until he should pay the debt. When his fellow servants saw what had taken place, they were greatly distressed, and they went and reported to their master all that had taken place. Then his master summoned him and said to him, ‘You wicked servant! I forgave you all that debt because you pleaded with me. And should not you have had mercy on your fellow servant, as I had mercy on you?’ And in anger his master delivered him to the jailers, until he should pay all his debt. So also my heavenly Father will do to every one of you, if you do not forgive your brother from your heart.”
