Sermon Title: What is your “Word”?
When you think about a word, what do you think about? A good word, a bad word? Or just “word”, possibly in 1990’s slang, “word up”.

Focus Scripture: John 1:1-5

John 1:1–5 (NKJV)
John 1:1–5 NKJV
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made. In Him was life, and the life was the light of men. And the light shined in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it.

Wow! The Word is more than just a word. The word used by John is lógos

Here already we may define the Logos-title: the Logos is the final and absolute revelation of God, embodied in God’s own Son, Jesus Christ. Christ is the Logos because in him all the purposes, plans, and promises of God are brought to a final focus and an absolute realization.
Richard Charles Henry Lenski (American Lutheran Pastor)
What John is saying here is this. The Logos is not an impersonal power. The Logos is not some kind of floating principle of reason. The Logos is a person.
John F. MacArthur
The Word is eternal
The Word created everything
The Word empowers
The Word is Eternal
John 17:3 (NKJV)
And this is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent.
2 Timothy 2:10 (NKJV)
Therefore I endure all things for the sake of the elect, that they also may obtain the salvation which is in Christ Jesus with eternal glory.
1 John 5:20 (NKJV)
And we know that the Son of God has come and has given us an understanding, that we may know Him who is true; and we are in Him who is true, in His Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God and eternal life.
Romans 6:23 (NKJV)
For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Deuteronomy 33:27
27 The eternal God is your refuge,
And underneath are the everlasting arms;
He will thrust out the enemy from before you,
And will say, ‘Destroy!
Your Word, the Word that you belong to and the Word that belongs to you, is eternal. He is powerful, He provides you with everlasting hope, salvation from our sinful nature. He is the cure for what is incurable on our own. The Eternal Word is a gift, full of glory and life. Is there an alternative to the Word in the Bible?
Yes!, there is.... Everlasting Gobstopper story. If you want to see Paradise simply look around and view it.
The Word Created Everything
John 1:14 “And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.”
Romans 8:39 (NKJV)
nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Ephesians 3:9 (NKJV)
and to make all see what is the fellowship of the mystery, which from the beginning of the ages has been hidden in God who created all things through Jesus Christ;
Isaiah 45:18 (NKJV)
For thus says the Lord, Who created the heavens, Who is God, Who formed the earth and made it, Who has established it, Who did not create it in vain, Who formed it to be inhabited: “I am the Lord, and there is no other.
The everlasting Word, Jesus, created all things! You, me, the earth and sea, the sky and universe is all His. He created the seen and the unseen realms, the multi-verse if it exists like that. We’re like the ultimate Avengers or Spidey’s in the multi-verse.
Colossians 1:15–20“He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. For by Him all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers. All things were created through Him and for Him. And He is before all things, and in Him all things consist. And He is the head of the body, the church, who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in all things He may have the preeminence. For it pleased the Father that in Him all the fullness should dwell, and by Him to reconcile all things to Himself, by Him, whether things on earth or things in heaven, having made peace through the blood of His cross.”
The Word Empowers
In Him was life, and the life was the light of men. And the light shined in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it.
The Light of Christ fills the darkness. The darkness can be many things in people. It can be a certain sin, a way of thinking, something you don’t even know about or a certain habit you have. The darkness of this world is all around us, you don’t have to look far to see we are all in danger of the darkness.
Mission Impossible game as a spiritual metaphor. Sneaking around in the dark, until your were found out by the light! When were playing, were we looking for the light or did it find us?
Jesus talks and preaches about sin, but he does not isolate himself from sinners. He understands that in order for light to shine in darkness, the light must engage the darkness.
Darrell L. Bock

2 Corinthians 4:4

4 whose minds the god of this age has blinded, who do not believe, lest the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine on them.

Blind game time, have a few people stand on one side of the room with the lights off and one or two people stand on the other side. All with eyes closed. Then have them slowly walk to the middle, but when tapped they can open their eyes and help someone else to see as well when they tap them. Game over when everyone is tapped.
So your “Word” is a person. He is eternal, created everything and empowers the Christian in the dark world.
He is eternal and created everything! He is the light to the world that penetrates darkness, and he empowers you to serve as His light to this dark world. His authority and power goes with you when you walk in His will goes before fighting your battles. His eternal grace, forgiveness and life is a gift when you believe in faith and his creation becomes your tool to accomplish many great things. And this Willy Wonka world we live in, can never substitute. Let’s pray
