Will Today is our Back to church day. and today I want us to look at what it means for us as a church to get back to THE church that God has called us to be.
We are all called, we are all given a purpose by God. Scripture tells us that we ALl created
No matter what we think Keeps us away from God, God reaches past that all and offers us the Gospel,
Gospel is
forgiveness
Hope
Joy
and love
Paul Writes
Ephesians 2:11–22 (ESV)
11 Therefore remember that at one time you Gentiles in the flesh, called “the uncircumcision” by what is called the circumcision, which is made in the flesh by hands— 12 remember that you were at that time separated from Christ, alienated from the commonwealth of Israel and strangers to the covenants of promise, having no hope and without God in the world.
WE were all separated from God by our sins
With Out God, WE have not Hope
13 But now
Any Time you see a But in scripture, Pay attention .......
13 But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far off have been brought near by the blood of Christ.
This is the true natrue of the Gospel, That we were once away from God, and through Jesus, We have been brought back to God.
Jesus give us connection to God again.
14 For he himself is our peace, who has made us both one and has broken down in his flesh the dividing wall of hostility 15 by abolishing the law of commandments expressed in ordinances, that he might create in himself one new man in place of the two, so making peace, 16 and might reconcile us both to God in one body through the cross, thereby killing the hostility.
Jesus
unified us to God
Broke down wall of separation
Abolished the Law of ordinances (Ceremonial law to seperat Jews and Greeks)
Replacing ordinance with His Righteousness and Peace
Reconciled us all God God
17 And he came and preached peace to you who were far off and peace to those who were near. 18 For through him we both have access in one Spirit to the Father.
Jesus Came to Preach Peace and to give us access to Spirit of god
we call that the Holy spirit
we are doing a study now about the holy spirit.
19 So then you are no longer strangers and aliens, but you are fellow citizens with the saints and members of the household of God, 20 built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Christ Jesus himself being the cornerstone, 21 in whom the whole structure, being joined together, grows into a holy temple in the Lord. 22 In him you also are being built together into a dwelling place for God by the Spirit.
No long strangers but citizens
Built on the teachings of the apostles ( we call scriptures)
Being Joined Together into the Church
Being the dwelling place of God.
This is what a Church going back to the basics is about, ITS TIME TO GO BACK TO THIS CHURCH
There are three things that God has called us to do to be the church that He wants us to be.
Grow (Grow in God / Grow in Faith)
Colossians 3:16–17 (ESV)
16 Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God. 17 And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.
Connect (Connect with one another)
Hebrews 10:24–25 (ESV)
24 And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, 25 not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near.
Community (Be active in our community)
Philippians 2:1–11 (ESV)
1 So if there is any encouragement in Christ, any comfort from love, any participation in the Spirit, any affection and sympathy, 2 complete my joy by being of the same mind, having the same love, being in full accord and of one mind. 3 Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves. 4 Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others. 5 Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus,
