Walk as Children of Light
Ephesians 5:8
Ephesians 5:8
Draw Mode: FN + CMD + F8
Notice in the text: You were darkness…
You didn’t just do dark things. You didn’t just walk in darkness.
You were darkness.
But now… You are light…
But not light in and of yourselves, like you were darkness.
You are light in the Lord.
You are to walk/live as children of the light.
1.) What is the significance of understanding that you were darkness?
2.) What is the significance that you are now light… but not in & of yourself, you are light in the Lord.
3.) What dramatic emphasis is placed to signify the change in this text?
“But Now…”
Notice the stark transition in the text.
I love reading “but God” moments in the Bible and hearing “but God” moments in people’s lives.
Before: You were darkness
But God: Christ stepped in
Impact: You are light in the Lord
Action: Walk as children of light
4.) In about 3 minutes (each), share your “but God” story.
Tell us: Before, But God, Impact, Action
v.8 concludes with an Imperative in the Greek.
Imperative is a command or action to do
“Walk” as children of light
5.) What do you think it means to walk as children of light & how do/can/should you do this in your life?
Now Read The Context:
Eph 4.32-5.21
6.) After reading the context, what greater understanding do you see when reading Eph. 5.8 again?
Notice all of the plural “you” & “one another” statements in the whole context (Eph. 4.32-5.21).
*Visual Filter: Greek Plural & Singular
7.) How important is it for believers to be connected to a local body of believers (local church) to live out the instructions found in Eph. 5.8?
