Judah’s Sowing of Sin

Galatians 6:7 “Do not be deceived: God is not mocked, for whatever one sows, that will he also reap.”
Judah had been sowing a multitude of vile sin.
See Jeremiah 19:3-6...
Judah didn’t just sin, but they delighted in it.
Isaiah 5:20 “Woe to those who call evil good and good evil, who put darkness for light and light for darkness, who put bitter for sweet and sweet for bitter!”
Judges 21:25 “In those days there was no king in Israel. Everyone did what was right in his own eyes.”
Seeing the destruction of Israel did nothing to stop Judah from continuing down the same path.

Look Among the Nations At the Lord’s Work

The Lord was raising up the Chaldeans to punish Judah.
“This Chaldean development moved at an astonishing speed: ‘They became the world rulers over Babylonia, Assyria, Syria, Palestine and Egypt, when twenty years previously they hardly were known to exist. They had conquered the old capital of Assyria in 614, Nineveh in 612 and Harran in 610. Nebuchadnezzar, defeated Pharaoh Neco of Egypt at the battle of Carchemish in 605 BC. They were on the march.” — David Prior
See Jeremiah 25:8–9… (see also 2 Kings 20:12-21)
This was not the first or last time God would do something like this.
Isaiah 10:5–6 “Woe to Assyria, the rod of my anger; the staff in their hands is my fury! Against a godless nation I send him, and against the people of my wrath I command him, to take spoil and seize plunder, and to tread them down like the mire of the streets.”
Isaiah 45:1 “Thus says the Lord to his anointed, to Cyrus, whose right hand I have grasped, to subdue nations before him and to loose the belts of kings, to open doors before him that gates may not be closed:”
Isaiah 45:5 “I am the Lord, and there is no other, besides me there is no God; I equip you, though you do not know me,”
What will happen to small Judah if the Lord stops fighting their battles for them?
See Deuteronomy 28:62-67… (See Genesis 22:17)

A Word For Us

Though we don’t always see it immediately, God’s judgment is sure.
Psalm 73:3 “For I was envious of the arrogant when I saw the prosperity of the wicked.”
Psalm 73:16–19 “But when I thought how to understand this, it seemed to me a wearisome task, until I went into the sanctuary of God; then I discerned their end. Truly you set them in slippery places; you make them fall to ruin. How they are destroyed in a moment, swept away utterly by terrors!”
If you reject the Lord, you are storing up wrath for yourself.
Romans 2:5 “But because of your hard and impenitent heart you are storing up wrath for yourself on the day of wrath when God’s righteous judgment will be revealed.”
The Lord’s kindness and patience won’t last forever.
2 Peter 3:9 “The Lord is not slow to fulfill his promise as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should reach repentance.”
