Thursday Night Homily

Notes
Transcript

We are going to spend about six minutes tonight thinking about how frustrating it must be to be Satan.

Philippians 1:12–14 ESV
I want you to know, brothers, that what has happened to me has really served to advance the gospel, so that it has become known throughout the whole imperial guard and to all the rest that my imprisonment is for Christ. And most of the brothers, having become confident in the Lord by my imprisonment, are much more bold to speak the word without fear.
Satan Persecutes Christ’s People
Paul is in Rome in house arrest
Being in chains for the gospel is right where Satan wants Paul
He’s awaiting trial & unable to travel on further missionary journies
Look at the futility of Satan’s work
“Turned out for the greater progress of the gospel”
“Praetorian guard now knows”
Brothers have more confidence”
We today are reading this passage
We’ve been praying for the Praetorian project—it comes from this passage. Paul’s imprisonment opened the door for him to preach the gospel to the Praetorian guard. In a similar way today, the Praetorian Project seeks to preach the gospel to members of the military.
Summary
Everything Satan or any of the church does to try to destroy the church only serves to build it up exactly as Christ intends it to be built
Philippians 4:20–23 ESV
To our God and Father be glory forever and ever. Amen. Greet every saint in Christ Jesus. The brothers who are with me greet you. All the saints greet you, especially those of Caesar’s household. The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ be with your spirit.
Let’s Pray.
