Tonight is your first away game of the season. You’ve already had a long day at school, and your fixing to have an even longer night ahead of you. Hours in the busses to get there, play for the game, and hours to get back home. I hope your excited and that your directors are cafinated. But think about it you are about to play away from here in an opposing enviroment after such a long day. I imagine your patience is going to be thin, so this afternoon I want to remind you about a character trait that will possibly be revealed tonight. Integrety:
Integrety is normally defined as doing the right thing, even when no one is watching. Tonight you will not have the normal crowd watching you. You won’t have the student section screaming with you, you might not even have your parents coming tonight. But integrety says you will do you best anyway.
Our verses of the day is Col. 3.17 and verse 23
Colossians 3:17 ESV
And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.
Colossians 3:23 ESV
Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men,

Whatever you do...

In Word - What you say. How you talk on the bus, or even the texts you send on snapchat.
In Deed - In your actions on or off the field, or in the classroom, or at home when you are alone.
Integrety applies to everything you do, no matter what it is.

No matter who is around

Integrety is tested, and found true not by others, but by God who sees all. You can fool me. You can fool the audience, but you can never fool yourself of God. Now I wasn’t in band in High school, but I was in chorus. Let me tell you some of them tenor high notes I could never reach, so I faked it. I kept my mouth moving silently and let the rest of the section cover for me.
Your friends can’t cover for you in life. God know the truth and he sees to your heart. So for integrety to be true you must

Do everything to best of your ablility.

Integrety doesn’t mean everything will always be easy, nor that you will always succeed. But it does mean that we put our best effort into it. You hold up your heads and as Paul said in verse 23 we work Heartily. Do your best even when everyone else is taking the easy way out. When everyone else is complaining and grumbling you keep our tounge. When its going well we thank God. When its going hard, we praise God. In everything we do we do our best and seek to honor God.
In this band you all have a part to play, you are counting on eachother to do your best. To have integrety when it gets late, and to give grace to one another when things get hard. There is a phrase I like to remember, “Do your best, and let God do the rest.” Don’t worry about success, just have the integrety to do everthing you need to do, and trust God with the outcome.
