God is worthy of praise for His Benefits - Psalm 103:1-5

Remembering His benefits is our grounds for Praise - Psalm 103:1-2

Psalm 103:1–2 NIV
Praise the Lord, my soul; all my inmost being, praise his holy name. Praise the Lord, my soul, and forget not all his benefits—
The Psalmist continues with six benefits for which we praise our God

God forgives all our sins - Psalm 103:3

Psalm 103:3 NIV
who forgives all your sins and heals all your diseases,

God promises that if we confess our sins He will forgive us - 1 John 1:9

1 John 1:9 NIV
If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.

God Heals our diseases - Psalm 103:3

Psalm 103:3 NIV
who forgives all your sins and heals all your diseases,
Rather than think of physical sickness, this refers to the consequences of sin and God’s restoration

God promises restoration - Psalm 51:12

Psalm 51:12 NIV
Restore to me the joy of your salvation and grant me a willing spirit, to sustain me.

God saves our lives - Psalm 103:4

Psalm 103:4 NIV
who redeems your life from the pit and crowns you with love and compassion,
The pit is usually a synonym for the grave

God promises us life - John 3:16

John 3:16 NIV
For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.

God crowns us with His loving compassion - Psalm 103:4

Psalm 103:4 NIV
who redeems your life from the pit and crowns you with love and compassion,

God’s salvation is the greatest demonstration of His love - Psalm 86:13

Psalm 86:13 NIV
For great is your love toward me; you have delivered me from the depths, from the realm of the dead.

God gives us good things - Psalm 103:5

Psalm 103:5 NIV
who satisfies your desires with good things so that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s.

Every good gift is from God - James 1:17

James 1:17 NIV
Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.

God renews our strength - Psalm 103:5

Psalm 103:5 NIV
who satisfies your desires with good things so that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s.

God is the source of our strength - Isaiah 40:29-31

Isaiah 40:29–31 NIV
He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak. Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall; but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.

God’s blessings come out of His Character

“What comes into your mind when you think about God is the most important thing about you.” -AW Tozer

God is Righteous - Psalm 103:6

Psalm 103:6 NIV
The Lord works righteousness and justice for all the oppressed.

God is always righteous and unchanging - Psalm 145:17

Psalm 145:17 NIV
The Lord is righteous in all his ways and faithful in all he does.
We may want to change the definition of righteous, but God’s character defines it

God desires to make us righteous - 2 Corinthians 5:21

2 Corinthians 5:21 NIV
God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.

God is Just - Psalm 103:6-7

Psalm 103:6–7 NIV
The Lord works righteousness and justice for all the oppressed. He made known his ways to Moses, his deeds to the people of Israel:
The Mosaic law demonstrates God’s standard of justice

God is our just judge - Psalm 9:7-9

Psalm 9:7–9 NIV
The Lord reigns forever; he has established his throne for judgment. He rules the world in righteousness and judges the peoples with equity. The Lord is a refuge for the oppressed, a stronghold in times of trouble.

God is Compassionate - Psalm 103:8

Psalm 103:8 NIV
The Lord is compassionate and gracious, slow to anger, abounding in love.

God has the compassion of a parent - Psalm 103:13-16

Psalm 103:13–16 NIV
As a father has compassion on his children, so the Lord has compassion on those who fear him; for he knows how we are formed, he remembers that we are dust. The life of mortals is like grass, they flourish like a flower of the field; the wind blows over it and it is gone, and its place remembers it no more.

God is Gracious - Psalm 103:8

Psalm 103:8 NIV
The Lord is compassionate and gracious, slow to anger, abounding in love.
Justice is getting what you deserve
Mercy is not getting what you deserve
Grace is getting what you don’t deserve

God extends His grace to us - Romans 8:32

Romans 8:32 NIV
He who did not spare his own Son, but gave him up for us all—how will he not also, along with him, graciously give us all things?

God is slow to anger - Psalm 103:8-10

Psalm 103:8–10 NIV
The Lord is compassionate and gracious, slow to anger, abounding in love. He will not always accuse, nor will he harbor his anger forever; he does not treat us as our sins deserve or repay us according to our iniquities.

God desires that all would come to repentance - 2 Peter 3:9

2 Peter 3:9 NIV
The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. Instead he is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.

God is Love - Psalm 103:8, 11-12

Psalm 103:8 NIV
The Lord is compassionate and gracious, slow to anger, abounding in love.
Psalm 103:11–12 NIV
For as high as the heavens are above the earth, so great is his love for those who fear him; as far as the east is from the west, so far has he removed our transgressions from us.

God defines love and commands it - 1 John 4:7-10

1 John 4:7–10 NIV
Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God. Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love. This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him. This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins.

God Promises His Blessing to those who fear Him - Psalm 103:17-18

Psalm 103:17–18 NIV
But from everlasting to everlasting the Lord’s love is with those who fear him, and his righteousness with their children’s children— with those who keep his covenant and remember to obey his precepts.
