20 And there were certain Greeks among them that came up to worship at the feast:
21 The same came therefore to Philip, which was of Bethsaida of Galilee, and desired him, saying, Sir, we would see Jesus.
44 Jesus cried and said, He that believeth on me, believeth not on me, but on him that sent me.
45 And he that seeth me seeth him that sent me.
Let’s remember what is taking place around our text.
Two weeks ago we talked about the fact that He is an On-Time God!
Even though Jesus was four days late, his timing was perfect.
Last week: My Alabaster Box.
Worth of a wasted perfume
Giving our all to God
This week: God shows himself to those who seek him!
In the verses before you text, we have what is called the Triumphal Entry.
This is where Jesus comes riding in on a donkey colt that had never been ridden.
People began to worship him!
Taking off their coats and covering the ground…
Cutting palm fronds and covering the ground…
Shouting Hosanna, blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!
Hosanna = Savior, save us
All this had been prophesied by Zachariah 550 years before!
zech9.9
9 Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion; Shout, O daughter of Jerusalem: Behold, thy King cometh unto thee: He is just, and having salvation; Lowly, and riding upon an ass, And upon a colt the foal of an ass.
The Pharisees miss it…
The Disciples miss it…
Why do you think they missed that this man was the Messiah?
It did not fit their idea what what the savior would look like, be like.
They expected a liberator from Roman oppression not a liberator from the oppression of sin!
They had a very specific box that the Savior had to fit in…
How do we miss Jesus today?
Good news?
16 These things understood not his disciples at the first: but when Jesus was glorified, then remembered they that these things were written of him, and that they had done these things unto him.
WE MUST NOT MISS OUR PROPHETIC MOMENT!
The other Gospels tell of how Jesus would get off the donkey and cleanse the temple, Kick over the moneychangers tables and confront the priests…
John would focus on Greek proselytes (converts to Judaism) and their desire to know Jesus.
Note that because they were Greek, Jews would have considered them second-class citizens.
Jews by choice, not birth.
So they would find Phil’-ip and ask him, “would you introduce us to Jesus?”.
They were not content with seeing him from a distance.
They were not happy with seeing him do things for others
They wanted to experience him!
What is the amazing part of this?
Jesus did not care if they were Jew or Greek!
Rather be began to teach about the expectations of the Gospel.
Dyeing to live, loosing to find, serving for honor.
And the voice of God confirms by saying “I have both glorified is and will glorify it again!”.
They argue on what had happened, thunder? Angels talking to him?
Bible says the voice was to confirm that Jesus was Messiah! God in flesh!
We are on a countdown to calvary!
32 And I, if I be lifted up from the earth, will draw all men unto me.
He was about to be lifted on a cross and fulfill their prayer of Hosanna - God save us!
His next words would be powerful… walk in the light, be children of light.
35 Then Jesus said unto them, Yet a little while is the light with you. Walk while ye have the light, lest darkness come upon you: for he that walketh in darkness knoweth not whither he goeth.
36 While ye have light, believe in the light, that ye may be the children of light. These things spake Jesus, and departed, and did hide himself from them.
Light illuminates. Light reveals. Light informs.
When you have a relationship with God,
When you seek him
When you know him
You walk in light!
This is followed by a sad scripture: 37
37 But though he had done so many miracles before them, yet they believed not on him:
This is the sad part of leadership, pastoring - people believing
Many won’t believe no matter what they see…
43 For they loved the praise of men more than the praise of God.
verse 40 says some hare blinded and wont ever see… believe!
Will you believe? Will you stop long enough to realize how significant what is going on around you?
I WILL SEE JESUS!
